  1. Makes sense to me. I'm still building/changing/developing my ways of gathering/sorting resources... just started caching in May Right now I use bookmark lists, which I then download into Google earth, and I do occasionally use the viewer too.. I like to keep caches in areas grouped for outings and haven't quite yet perfected a system for myself, but I can already tell GE will be a BIG part of the final system.
  2. Depends on what you are using it for. I often use the viewer to get an overview of an area's caches. No need for great accuracy for that. Yeah, but with GPXs you get all the info (same as I can on my GC Explorer for paperless caching), and added waypoints (like parking, or a particularly nice view in the area) as well as the accuracy.
  3. Guess I'll just stick to loading either LOC or GPX files in Google Earth.
  4. Is this why Google Earth listings are way off from the LOC files of the same caches? I started playing with GE today (yeah, late to the party) and liked that I could bookmarks lists of caches on a trail at gc.com, then download a LOC with all of the caches listed in it, then load that into GE to get a better look at the area (better than Google Maps IMO, and you can list alot more waypoints/placemarks in GE). So then I tried to load some caches via the GE link in my profile.... and found them to be WAY off from the ones I had already loaded using LOC files. Hope I made sense with what I am trying to say here....
  5. Every time I try to create a route I get a "500 - Internal server error." It's a bit disappointing that it fails the first time I try (and yes, I tried several times before posting this). It doesn't seem to matter if I try a local/short route (Dover, NH TO Durham, NH) or long route (Dover, NH TO Somerville, ma), every attempt gives me the same error. What happens is this: 1. I go to http://www.geocaching.com/my/routeedit.aspx 2. I enter the 2 cities/states 3. I click "Save route changes" 4. I click "Ok" on the popup "Are you sure you wish to make these changes?" 5. I get the error.
  6. Ok, I've been using this unit for a few weeks now. A great combo (for me) is Google Nav (on my android phone in the car) to get into the area, and then using my GC to get to the cache. Most of my caches have been 1.5 miles or less from where I park. I'm a newbie, and using geocaching to lose wait, so I'll work up to the longer hikes later. From my experience caching with my family (wife, 12 yr old son, 14 yr old daughter) it seems to be that you either get used to it right away (me & son), or it takes a bit of teaching (wife & daughter). The dashboard on this unit kicks butt, and is damned accurate, but as someone else said it can be slow to update sometimes. Not being able to update a cache's coordinates (you have to set a new waypoint with new coords instead) is a pain when doing puzzle or multicaches, but it can be done (did 2 today in fact). Battery life is fantastic, in fact I use rechargeable batteries and have used it for a whole day without having to charge the batteries or swap them (I have 4 rechargeable AA batteries just in case). Ok, this kind of rambled on, but I will say this: I love my GC, and it's a great upgrade for anyone using a mobile phone app for geocaching (as I was). I may post again later if I think of anything else.
  7. Thank you Rick345 & EScout. This way is not perfect (because it will be a pain going back and forth between the waypoints menu and the geocache details), but it will work, I'll just need to get used to navigating the menus a bit more
  8. I just bought this unit yesterday and am loving except for one thing: multi-caches. I have yet to find a way to update the coordinates in the cache profile (on the unit) so that I can move on to the next part of a multi... is this possible?
  9. Haven't a clue how to do this (I'm new, only found 3 caches so far). Also, I use a Samsung Moment as my GPSr (which BTW is MUCH better than most people report, usually I can get within 3m). I use GeoBeagle if that helps at all... maybe you could point me to a decent page explaining how to use pocket queries (is that he same as GPX files?) with GeoBeagle?
  10. Is there a way to limit keyword searches by area (like an address search + keyword search)? Although my home coordinates are saved with my profile every time I try a keyword search I get so many returns for caches nowhere near me that the results are useless. Indiana? Connecticut? I'm in New Hampshire.
