  1. I had no problem with taking my GPSr on US Air in my carry on about a year ago. Question though: I turned mine on once well into flight but it did not want to find any signal! What's up with that? Well you are traveling several hundred miles per hour. That might have had something to do with it. I find it takes longer to get a lock when moving than when standing still.
  2. Imagine what it could do to your liver . Avoid pesticides. In this case (as with many), the cure can kill you. Those of you who are suggesting DEET is completely safe: google Gulf War Syndrome and DEET. Or, DEET problems. Or, DEET poisoning. Did you know water can kill you if you drink too much? Follow the instructions on the can and you'll be alright. Better than catching a disease that might kill you. Some people worry way too d*mn much.
  3. Yeah! They shouldn't go to the grocery store, or the gas station, or the mall alone either! In fact, they shouldn't venture outside at all alone. It's a big scary world! Please, give me a break. Go back to 1950.

    TFTC?

Actually that's not what it means at all. I end all my logs with TFTC regardless of how long the log is.

    Age?

    I'm 23 and I solo cache. I started when I was 18.
  6. Edited: What don't you know?
  7. The Venture HC does not do turn by turn.
  8. None of the traditional GPS interfaces work on my mac with my Garmin Venture HC, but Garmin's Bobcat program works just fine. You import the .gpx files into Bobcat and you can send it to the GPS. If your GPS has a Geocaching mode, any waypoint that begins with "GC" is automatically stored in the Geocache folder on the GPS.
  9. Thank you for waiting until you had a good number of found caches under your belt before placing your first GC.
  10. I'd rather they be a good hunter than a bad hider.
  11. Enter it exactly how he has it. Put the color/size code at the beginning of the log, then put the ending code (the part with the "/") at the end of the log.
  12. My personal dislike of micros stems from the fact that usually a micro can be hidden anywhere and usually are placed with little or no effort and the location holds little or no significance. Such as a Walmart parking lot. I'm a cacher who likes a good well thought out hide. I don't go for caches that seem to have been placed just for the sake of placing a cache.
  13. Why should the cache owner get to decide that? It should be the first geocacher to find the cache AFTER being published. If the owners 2 year old child happens upon the ammo box and fiddles around with it and opens it up, I don't think that should constitute a find... Maybe technically it should? Because it's the cache owner. Maybe he could ask if the log book was recycled or not or why there were other names in the logbook. It doesn't matter if it's found before or after publishing. I say the first name in the log book is the FTF unless there are other circumstances (like a recycled log book). As others have said, this isn't the only venue for Geocaching. Maybe it was posted somewhere else before it was posted here.
  14. Who cares? If it's too far away, don't go to it. If you went through all the trouble of solving the puzzle, then go find it. It's only 25 miles. Do it on a weekend. Make an afternoon of it. There are plenty of other, better things to waste time griping about.
  15. CacheMate is the program I use on the PDA. As for transferring PQ's and such to the PDA from your computer, there are several out there.
  16. I bought a Palm Z22 off of eBay for like $30. Works just fine for paperless caching.
  17. I wouldn't say 100, but at least get a good amount under your belt so that you know what constitutes a worthwhile cache and what doesn't.
  18. You haven't even found a GC and you're already placing one? Eh, different strokes for different folks, I guess.
  19. I applaud people who place well thought out, worth while caches. I'm one of those that despise the proliferation of micros and no-brainer caches, so finding a good cache is getting to be quite difficult.
  20. You do realize it's now possible for people to have their caching name changed, right? So what's listed on-line may no longer match with what they signed on a paper log. Oh, wait. I forgot. "I have everything figured out." Just email them and ask if they have gone by a different user name at some point in the past. If what they tell you matches the log book, they're good to go. If not, delete the log on the cache page.
  21. Sounds to me like you do not merit a FTF. No your fault, but it's still not a FTF. It's not a big deal though. You gain nothing from an FTF other than bragging rights.
  22. Just add something to your description saying any log entry containing a picture of the cache will be deleted.
