  1. I bought some sheets of magnetic backed material to use to make business card sized refrigerator magnets. I think it cost about a dollar a sheet, which will get you about 10 magnets. I put a bunch in a quilt cache, and they were well received. GeoForse
  2. Yes, I had one of my caches found by non-cachers. Check out the March 25 log by Squeamish on http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=4486 . The cache was found by two guys who went to smoke a joint. Check out the photos on the cache page and see if you can guess who they were. They left a nice note in the log book besides taking a swell picture! GeoForse
  3. For my vote, I say Criss-Cross by Squeamish. Inventive clues and a topnotch final location GeoForse

  8. Y'know, when I was a young pup, I didn't think that the change bothered me at all. Now, it seems that by the time I get used to it, its time to change back . Actually, it does seem that the older I get, the longer it takes to get used to it. However, the extra time geocaching makes up for it. It's just that since I retired, I don't seem to have any time for GCing. Hmmm? Time to reorder my priorities. GeoForse

  10. Thales recently came out with an upgrade every Mag 315 owner was BEGGING for, and there has been nary a mention in the forums. You know, the solution to the hula wave--no more drunken bee dance, the answer for our prayers... Version 3.15 of the firmware drastically lowers the speed at which the unit breaks out of "auto-averaging". Supposedly, this will make geocaching much easier by giving more accurate results when moving slow, like when you are near a cache. Anybody have any experiance with this?? I upgraded and used it to find one cache, and I thought it worked great!! The distance remaining counted down steadily until it reached 3 feet, and voila, there it was! :
  11. There was an article in the Des Moines Register last July. I think this was the first story on Iowa geocaching. Here is the link to the article.
  12. Here is a cache that is in a similiar vein. I think it is quite inventive. I have solved the location, but the weather and my schedule has been uncooperative, Oh well, maybe tomorrow I'' get to it. null" TARGET=_blank>http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=15909[/url]

  14. Well, It took me a while to research the question, but the first item I took from a cache was a Vassar lanyard from a cache hidden by tecmnage, the originator of this topic. And in an interesting twist, the gold dollar taken by tecmage was left in a central Iowa cache by myself in my first find ever. Kinda lets you know that there weren't many of us in the game in central Iowa back them. The situation has certainly changed. It's nice to know that while I probably won't log 127 finds for a while, the gold dollar I left in my first find has visited, in a way, all those caches
