  1. It's tough to tell in the case of fones--Most modern fones have a mode where games and other features can be accessed without the fone transceiver actually being on. GeoForse
  2. "This drawing was made by walking in a straight line along the beach with Louis, the dog with attached GPSr, over-willingly retrieving an object being thrown in alternating directions. The same action was repeated along a parrellel path on the way back. The shape is about 850 metres long." From the same site. I think this is so cool where you have the design being drawn by cooperative effort by dog and man... GeoForse edited to figure out the image thing.
  3. Here we go with the thingies again... Would someone please help her with her thingies!!! GeoForse
  4. While this particular thread may have run its course, I don't think closing it down will make a hill of beans difference. There is an entire forum here to be taken out of context. While that may be true, at least there won't be the direct connection with the SC legislation effort, which has spawned direct vitriolic rheteric which obviously has direct propaganda value to the opposition. 5. Since this thread is being closely monitored by SC legislative interests, perhaps its time to close it down for the time being. Our efforts can be more effective if not done under the glare of public light. Many many leaders (and workers) have risen to the task. They could carry on there efforts in private leading up to the Senate action on the bill next session. Then, at the appropriate time, when wider notification and action are necessary, discussion in the forum can be initiated by those leaders. GeoForse
  6. I think in honor of Jeanette, we should officially rename the GPSr to the GPS Thingy. It has a lot more class, but might raise the incidence of thingy envy! GeoForse
  7. I would suggest this be posted in "GPS Units and Software" GeoForse
  8. It seems tome that this comes veryt close to burying a cache. GeoForse
  9. How do you know this?? Are you in communication with the Senators on the Sub-Committee?? It sounds like you are saying there is no battle to fight, and that the passage of the bill in the Senate is a done deal. What specific information and/or communications with the Senators do you have that indicates all of this??? GeoForse
  10. It is getting harder and harder to stay a geek, what with the price of live chickens [] GeoForse
  11. Since the Geocaching bill is listed last in the calendar, does that mean it is considered LAST in importance by the house leadership. Certainly, all the items listed above seem to be of more importance to me. I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't come up for debate until next week, or later, or not at all???!!! GeoForse
  12. I'm with TinSparrow--Cool the rheteric and act responsibly. GeoForse
  13. The House can vote on it any time from now until they close their session for the year. If they pass the bill and send it to the Senate, and the date of passage is after May 1st, the Senate will not consider it until next session (January), unless they decide by a 2/3 vote to consider it in this session. In other words, like Carleen said just before me GeoForse
  14. In another topic, it was mentioned that ad blocking in Norton Internet Security would block the changing pictures at the top of the geocaching main page. This is what is happening on my computer. Norton also allows individual web sites to configured to show or block individual ads or pictures. I have added the geocaching web site to my list and configured it to allow all jpg files on the web site, but that is not sufficient to allow the pictures to show. Has anyone worked with this particular question and have a solution? I'm not techno-savvy enough to figure out how to show the images on the geocaching main page, but to leave ad blocking as is on all other sites. Any help would be appreciated, either here or by e-mail or PM. Thanks GeoForse
  15. DeLorme Street Atlas 2005 offers everything Streets and Trips offers plus Automated routing And Route Tracking including voice navigation. Very cool indeed--Used it all the was to Florida and back last month. If you get off route, it will recalculate the route and give you voice instructions to get you back on route
  16. My favorite D.C. cache is "Awakening", (GC15F1).It is a very easy find, is unique, and very much a childrens favorite. It is in a part of town that not many touristas find. GeoForse
  17. Well, lets do the math. According to the pythagorium theorum, a rise of ten feet over a run of 528 feet (1/10 mile) will give you a slope length, which IS the actual distance travelled of about, oh, let's see, 528.095 feet. Just a little more than an inch in a tenth of a mile. Sounds pretty inconsequential to me. GeoForse
  18. To further clarify,affect is a verb,Effect is a noun...
  19. I believe the answer is yes, But i'm a magellan man myself
  20. Hi, Iowa Tom Where are you from? I too am from Iowa. The following is from a good deal of checking that I did before I bought some Xmas presents--also from other remarks I have seen in the fora. MS S&T is a good mapping software for route planning, etc. However, when you hook up a GPS on a laptop, for instance, all it shows is your location on the map. It does not "track" your route. Delorme Street Atlas does the same, except it does track your route, and gives you voice cues on upcoming turns, etc. It you get off route, you can click a button, and it will recalculate your route and get you back on track. None of these mapping programs will allow you to upload the maps to the GPS. GeoForse
  21. Yes, I am familiar with a book by Kit Williams that was published back in the 1980's in the U.K. I think the prize (or prise) was eventually found. The the book had a strong bee-keeping, bee hive theme. GeoForse
  22. I heard about this on the Today show this morning. I was sure that it would be a hot topic in the forums by this time, but I haven't seen it mentioned. Sounds like something Geocachers would be good at, if they can decode the clues. These, apparently, are hidden in a book that you have to buy for $20 or so. Twelve Gold tokens are to be found. Supposedly, one is within a days drive of anywhere in the U.S. of A. Check the web site here. http://www.atreasurestrove.com/Public/Home/index.cfm GeoForse
  23. I'm sorry, I just can't see how unchecking a box each time is that big a deal. Perhaps you send a lot more mail than I do. GeoForse
