Another way is to search for caches from your home, and look for cachers names that appear on several cache pages. Send a polite email, introducing yourself, and try to arrange a meeting place and catch a cache or two. Limit your time and together and feel each other out. Then you can follow up in another week or so, for another meet and cache.
Another way is to go to a local event, introduce yourself and try to hook up with someone and do a few caches at the event. That usually breaks the ice.
Most other cachers are always willing to help out.
