  1. Nova Scotia Nova Scotia Parks 15 caches across the province, 6 possible geocoins to earn by visiting various combinations. Acadian Shores Geotour 29 sites along the shores of Bay of Fundy & Atlantic Ocean. Geocoin available, unknown how many are left. Acadian Settlements Geocoin Complete 6 of 12 geocaches across the province to earn geocoin.
  2. ACGA gave some pointers to Gulf Islands during the spring based (amongst other parks) on our success at Fundy national Park over the last 4 years. We also guided the parks & sites for the Environment Canada contest. The Environment Canada contest is just a first step to hopefully an annual event where more sites go online. The benefit of this year's contest is that a few sites were setting up their gc.com accounts to manage their listings due to the positive experience. I'd say to those who want to see more, to contact your nearest park and offer to help them. In most cases, the parks approach us to help since this side of the activity (the community) is an unknown beast. The policy is there so that you work with the parks to select appropriate locations & their requirements. We have partnered with 4 parks canada sites in NB & NS and all have different requirements how they'd like to see the containers hidden or when to have them available. For example, Fundy & CB are more traditional placement 3 feet from the trail, but Kejimkujik wants it along existing infrastructure on the trail. The only downside is that some sites take a while to things going, or they are not ready or don't have the staff to assign to the project. However, once they are ready to go, it's always a good experience. Oh - this is a good spot to mention that our launch event for the 2nd backcountry series at Kejimkujik is set for sept 24, 2011. This is only for cachers who like a challenge http://coord.info/GC317C7 http://www.atlanticgeocaching.com/

  12. Just a heads up that there there will be a new geocaching challenge being planned by ACGA and Kejimkujik National Park. The launch event is scheduled for November 6, 2010. The theme for the overall challenge is “Under Starry Skies”, to coincide with the recent Dark Sky Preserve designation that the park obtained this year. Five new geocaches will be released with this theme in mind. Unlike previous challenges that ACGA has setup at Fundy & Cape Breton NP, the hiking distances will be more demanding (~30km), in addition to access to the back country that might require an overnight. 22. Nova Scotia Provincial Parks and ACGA have partnered to provide a new geocaching challenge for the 2010 season. The inaugural launch event will be held at Smiley's Provincial Park on June 19th 2010 (GC25MQ2). Five official park sanctioned geocaches will be part of the geocaching challenge, which will be spread across five (5) provincial parks in Nova Scotia. The geocaches will be published on June 19th 2010. You will be required to use a passport provided at participating provincial parks or download from ACGA or Nova Scotia Parks (to be published). Each passport will list out the rules, disclaimers and more importantly the list of geocaches that are part of the challenge. But before finding the geocaches, you will need to review your knowledge of trees (hardwood, softwood). As part of the challenge, each of the five geocaches have a central theme; trees. Once you find the geocache, use the supplied punch to your passport to keep track of your finds. After completing all five geocaches, simply mail in your passport to the address supplied to Nova Scotia Parks and you will receive a limited edition trackable geocoin. As mentioned, you will be required to visit five provincial parks in order to complete the challenge. The parks involved are the following: • Amherst Shore Provincial Park • Ellenwood Lake Provincial Park • Battery Provincial Park • Smiley's Provincial Park • Salsman Provincial Park Visit the following link often as more information about the event will be posted. http://bit.ly/aLARgl
  23. Quick heads up that the 3rd Geocaching challenge in Fundy National Park is set for May long weekend. There will be 5 new geocaches to explore other areas in the park along with a new limited geocoin upon completion of the challenge. Note that the 10 geocaches that were part of previous years are still active, but no longer part of year 1 & 2 challenges as those geocoin are all gone. Just bookmark this URL for all the latest news, including videos on the upcoming event. http://bit.ly/zaZtT This will be the first of three major events that ACGA will have within Parks, Cape Breton Highlands NP being the second and look for our announcement with Nova Scotia Parks shortly. --------------------------------- twitter user? follow us @acga
