  1. Hello all, I have been diligently doing my homework on current handheld GPS's on the market and for what I am looking for I have narrowed it down to the Magellan Meridian Platinum, Garmin V and the Lowrance iFinder. I have had my Lowrance Globalmap 100 for the past 4 years and like it quite a bit with the exceptions that it is limited to only 2MB of memory and its not waterproof. There are a ton of other features out there that I would also like to have above what the GM100 has. So, I have been looking closely at the Meridian Platinum because of its expandablilty and waterproofness (is that even a word?) foremost along with everything else that it offers with the exception that the maps are not as good (so I hear) as garmins stuff. I have had no problems with my GM100 but would like more room and the security of more than just IPX2. Getting to the point What I'm wondering is if its a good time to upgrade now or should I wait until the next generation GPS's come out and when do you all think that may be if ever? I understand that the 3 models that I mentioned were all released not too long ago so if Garmin and Magellan are anything like Lowrance it may be 4 years until we see a new product line? I know, you don't have to say it, I'm picky Thanks for your thoughts
  2. I think the real question is 'why did you change it?'

  4. Went on my first find today and haven't hidden any yet so my ratio is 1/0. I just learned about geocaching earlier in the week and am very excited about placing my first cache. I'm reading a lot of posts and getting good ideas for a cache. As others have mentioned maintaing is a big deal and a concern of the caches that I will place. I agree that the ratio will always be off and that is fine.
  5. I'm still very new to geo-caching and actually went on my first hunt today but it is quite obvious from reading the log that there is a lot of over reacting going on. One thing that comes to mind is 'cache in, trash out' that message is delivered to everyone geo-caching and i'm sure that does more good all around the world in any enviroment than what these "cave conservationist" are doing just in "their" caves, oh wait they're not their caves they are open to the Public. Cache in, trash out could have been brought to the caves but some over excited person decided to go way to far out of their way to put an end to it and even sends out threats (Not Cool). Anyway sorry for spouting off but that is my dimes worth on the subject.
  6. I wish I could help you but I have the same CD and XP Pro. I haven't re-installed the software since I upgraded to XP but after reading your post I figured I would give it a try. It works just fine so I'm not sure what could be different. I should say that the program runs fine but I have not tried uploading any new maps so I don't know if that will work or not. You may want to try putting the program in compatibility mode and try it although I did not have to do that.
