The language of Geocaching.....
Insp Gadget replied to Insp Gadget's topic in General geocaching topics
Even if GC goes the way of Napster ( we can't predict the future, can we?) I still want this tattoo to remind me of game that touched so many people in so many ways. -

quote:In my opinion your French loggers should of posted their log in English if they could since that's what you listed in. Adding a French translation to the log would also be ok. I'm with you on this one. Posting your log in the same language as the cache has been listed in seems to be only polite in my opinion.... -

I was thinking about the language of Geocaching tonight. I post all of my caches in English as most poeple do. Tonight someone found one of my caches and they posted their find in French. I noticed the Geocaching web site was in English and a few other languages, but not French. I'm saying this because I live on the border with Quebec and have hidden many caches in this area, but there have been VERY few finds on them and very litle GC activity at all. I'm thinking this is probably because the web site is not in French, but what do you guys think?

Wow, great job Scoobie! I'm using this pic as the background on my Desktop. Now I wonder if I can find a company to make this into wallpaper that I can hang on all the walls in my house?

MS Streets and Trips 2004? What a ripoff!!!!!!!!!

quote:But less obvious you have to be sure to select the format type of "(-)ddd.dddddd" for both coordinate types, or S&T won't be able to manage the file. OK. I played with this for a while, but still have no idea how to change the format in Utopia. -
Road Mate 700 or Streetpilot 2610?
Insp Gadget replied to Insp Gadget's topic in GPS technology and devices
I downloaded a spec sheet on the 2610 from the Garmin site. It says the accuracy of this model is only 15 meters (49 feet). Does this not seem a bit backwards when some of the smallest handhelds can be as accurate as 2meters? -
I'm starting to look for a new GPS for my car use only. Since I'm driving about 7000km permonth, it seems only normal to have a good GPS in my vehicle. I'm looking for a unit that will do turn by turn directions with lots of detail on the maps, especially POI's. I realize the 2 models I am looking at (Garmin's Streetpilot 2610 & Magellan's Road Mate 700) are new to the market, but from the little r5eading I can find on them there seems to be little difference between the 2. Mind you the RM 700 is more than $500 than the 2160, but foir the life of my I can't figure out why the big price difference. Also it seems the 700 has a hard drive built into it, which kind of make me wary. Anyone have any experience with either of these models and can help me make a decision on these?

Is a waypoint file that's created on the computer for the Mapsend product the same file format that's used on the Meridian Gold? In other words, can I copy a waypoint file from the laptop onto the SD card and open it on my GPS?
-
I have a Meridian Gold with a 128mb SD card. I would like to save my GPX files on the SD card for certain areas that I do not visit often. If I happen to be here then I can load this file to see where all the caches are. How do I go about doing this?

MS Streets and Trips 2004? What a ripoff!!!!!!!!!
Insp Gadget replied to Insp Gadget's topic in GPS technology and devices
Sorry, I should have been a bit clearer in my initial posting. I was referring to the points of interest for Canada. About the best I can find are a few campgrounds, while in the US there are thousands of POI's to choose from. -
Approvers & Admins, please avoid the forums

quote:The tough nuts comment is still harsh though, I think a more polite and service orientated reply is better such as suggested earlier "Thank-you for your suggestion/concern we don't have that implemented at this time but will consider it for future revisions." It goes a lot farther than tough nuts. Keith Bear & Ducky From the sound of your posts, I think Tough Nuts was a valid comment. I'm not picking on you or anything, but what do you have against the guys at GC.com? (And believe me, I'm not looking into getting into a pissing contest with you) Personally I have volunteered for many different organizations over the years and there are always some people who like to complain about the work your doing. How bout this? We all let bygones be bygones and get on with our fun sport? -

I'm partial to the Victorianox line of Swiss Army Knives. I have several of them but my favorite is the Swiss Champ XLT. It's loaded with everything (I beleieve it will even give you a sponge bath, but I'm still looking for that tool!)and comes in a very small size. The quality is outstanding and it will last for many years to come.

Well I have to stick my 2 cents in here. Why are some of us being so picky? There are rules that the approvers have to work within and like it or not, we have to live within those rules. Personally I applaud the work that all these VOLUNTEERS are doing. That's the magic word, isn't it. A volunteer is giving of his or her own time to approve caches and naturally they get in hot water for following those rules. I for one have NO COMPLAINTS against the site, the volunteers, or anything else. $.02

Here are some pics taken on Day 2, today.

Not afraid of needles, I have donated over 4 gallons of blood to the Red Cross (not a one time, about 12 years worth). . Well to be honest with you, it didn't hurt. A few people told me that it was such a painful experience, but I found it more of an annoyance than anything. I imagine the location has a lot to do with it. I wouldn't want to get one so close to a bone!

Thanks Leatherman! So, here is my tattoo. Keep in mind that this pic was taken about 30 minutes after having done, so the colors are not as deep as they will be later on.

Meridian Gold and Laptop problem
Insp Gadget replied to Insp Gadget's topic in GPS technology and devices
I have a Compaq laptop with the built in touch pad. I have no idea how many ports there are, but I know I have 1 serial and 2 USB ports. -
I connected my MG to my laptop via the serial port for the first time today. As soonas i did this, the mouse pointer went all crazy and I was unable to do anything. Does anyone know why this is happening and what I can do to fix it?
