  1. 1. Find finally GC40. Living in Belgium and still having that one in the to do list ....

    2. Add at least two new countries to the list (actual count at 31)

    3. Do my first Wherigo cache (I'm quite sure I'll fail at that one)

    4. Try to "finish" Germany (3 states to go)

    5. Keep my caches well maintained

    6. Publish a couple more travel-related Challenge caches

    ... and have fun :-)

  2. Country #30 done, just got my cache in Ecuador last night in Quito. Next stop: India in October. I haven't looked too much in detail but one of the 2 EC's in the Taj Mahal are the most likely option :)

Of course there are two EC's at the Taj after I visit it.:P

Apparently a tough place to hide and maintain a traditional cache. Both the one you found and the earlier one I found are archived.

Not really a place that needs a cache to get people to visit

Well, you can always do like this guy did in the Taj Mahal GC43RCJ

    "Found it Found it 26/Aug/2016

I could not find one. So I put a new filmbox under a stone, where I think, the box should be.

    The hint is still valid.

You can have look beside the park to Taj Mahal, but this 200 Rupies entree fee are OK and worth. It is a nice park and when I was there, at least 10 people worked in the park..

    Thank for showing this location!

    corona"

I should remember that strategy whenever going to a country with very few caches <_<

  3. I'm going to Belgium in a few weeks! I get a new country/continent!

I don't know how well I will do there, but I really need to find at least one.

Where are you going in Belgium? When I got one in Brussels a few years ago I DNFd the first two I tried. If all my travel plans for the next year pan out I hope to get my 30th country and 5th continent while visiting Australia next June.

    Brussels, and Spa.

If you are into oldies, then you should go for Brussels#1: GC3FBE, if into populars, go to the Atomium GC1EG4C, and if you have some time to visit the most beautiful city in the world (Bruges, where I happen to live) then you should go for THE cache: GC4XMCM (1.700 favo points and counting)

I hope you enjoy our country !!

  4. Hola,

    Saludos

  5. Country #29 ... done. Just spent a weekend in Cracow, a BEAUTIFUL city ... full of EC's btw :) Enjoyed very much our time there.

Next country should be Ecuador in a couple of weeks, but I have a very tigth business agenda. Hopefully I can escape when in Quito or Guayaquil and grab something. Unfortunately I'll spend mos of the time in Cuenca, which doesn't have a single cache downtown :(

    We'll see ...

  6. Hola,

    Muchas gracias

  7. Hi,

I've got the "responsibility" to organize a day of geocaching for a social club my wife belongs to. They will be about 10-15 families with mostly teenage kids. With just one or two exceptions, they have probably never heard of geocaching. My goal is, of course, to make their day as exciting as possible and hopefully pass to them some of the passion I have for this game/sport/hobby, and there is where I would welcome your ideas.

I'm thinking about looking for an area with a high density of caches (the plan is that people will walk from one cache to the next one)with eventually different starting points, so that they don't step on each other toes, and obviously not higher than D3 T3.

Other than that, could you give any hints about how to make a succesful geocaching day for that community?

    Thanks in advance

  8. Just took advantage of an endless layover (9 HOURS) in Istanbul to add my 27th country to the list.

If everything goes according to the plan, the next ones should be: Croatia in July, Poland in August, Ecuador in September and (really hard but will do my best) India in November :)

  9. Hi,

I think you can help me on this then.

End of May I have a 9 HOURS layover in IST on my way to South Africa for a business trip, and I would LOVE adding Turkey to my list of countries. Now, the most straightforward cache is GC5CNYR, but I would like not having just one shot. I'd rather go for 3-4 caches in order to ensure at least one. Any hints?

    Thanks & regards from Belgium

hi there. the one you menationed (GC5CNYR) is not in Istanbul?

There are two airports in istanbul if you are landing in ATATURK airport there are some caches you can find easly.

One of them is mine, you can use metro and it is in the metro station you don't need to leave the station. You finding it and take the next metro to go back to the airport.

Then there is another cache /mysterious You can walk from the airport gate to there easly in 20 mins.

So minimum 2 caches you can do in 2 hours easly.

    here are the codes:

    GC4CNYR (this is mine)

    GC688QT (mysterious)

    regards

Sorry, I meant indeed your cache GC4..... I hadn't look at the mistery yet, but it seems indeed quite feasible, thanks!! .. Now I just have to find what to do with the remaining 8 hours ;-)

Hi again, just found both caches. Yours was relatively easy thanks to your hint. Regarding the other one, you must take your chances in the crazy traffic, but anyway, got it as well. Thanks for your help and regards from the nicest Airport Business Lounge of the World, that is, the one of Turkish hier in IST :)

  10. Hello,

I'll be visiting Shanghai next week, and am very excited to to find some caches. (I have been living in India the last few years, and geocaching here is quite difficult...

I do not have a stand-alone GPS, and have been caching with my iPhone app for several year. The phone is unlocked and I'll be getting a local SIM card. I've heard that GPS results are offset in China - if I have the local SIM card and am not using google maps, will the geocaching app work there?

    thanks!

Yes,it works. I was in Shanghai a couple of years ago, with my (european) iPhone and it went fine. Didn't have too much geocaching time, but at least I could do a couple of virtuals down there

    Regards from Belgium

  13. Hi,

After being stuck at 25 countries since last November I finally added last week a new one to the list: Brazil, and including a new continent :-)

Now, I need your help for #27: Turkey

End of May I have a 9 HOUR layover in IST (Istanbul Airport), of course more than enough time to cache around. I plan to go for GC4NYR,but just having one shot looks a bit risky to me, so I'd rather aim for 3-4 caches in order to ensure finding one. Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance

  14. Goals 2016:

    - Get to 30 countries (right now at 25)

    - log GC40 (200 km from my front door)

    - Do as many virtual, earth caches & webcams as possible (they are reallllly cool)

    - Work on my Jasmer matrix (I love really old caches)

    - Place a real nice cache (all my caches are on the "boring" side, I admit)

    - Host my first event (I'm quite sure I'll fail on this one)

    - Improve my "puzzle solving" skills (not that difficult to be honest)

    - Do my first T4 cache (I'm on the "pussy" side, I know)

    - Have a lot of geocaching fun (I'm certain to succeed on that one)

  15. So, my 25th country is a fact. It took quite some planning and a loooot of sweat, but got 6 caches in Dubai (UAE), 5 tradis and THE Eartcache in Burj Khalifa.

If everything goes according to the plan, next one should be Brazil or Ecuador, both quite complicated, specially getting a cache in a country as huge as Brazil .. doesn't seem quite that easy.To be continued ...

  16. Hi,

Have you thought about "georunning" (or "geobiking")? I'm lucky to live in a region with a high density of caches, 400 out of my 1000 founds are less than 10km from my front door and I've done probably 80% of them ... running, and most of the rest by bicycle :-)

I'm lucky as well to have a job that sends me all over the world and there .. I georun as well. So, again, if you live in the "right" area and have a certain mobility linked to your job, it's certainly possible to do a big amount of caches without having to drive somewhere specially to grab that cache. :)

  17. So, earlier this week I did my #24 country: Luxembourg, and well, considering that I'm leaving in Belgium .. it was certainly about time :P

Next stop should be Dubai in November. Has any of you any caching experience / hints from caching down there? I'll have just ONE free day, so planning is everything ..

    Thanks!

  18. Thanks for your reply. In that case I'm afraid it will be a loooong day in the Business Lounge at the airport. :(

Well, at least I'll have collected earlier in the week my "Texan Souvenir", during my visit to Uvalde B)

  19. Hi,

In a couple of months I'll be travelling around the USA. Looking at my flights it seems I'll have a 7 hours layover in IAH. I remember being there in my pre-geocaching days, and it took me forever to switch terminals with plenty of security checks, but still 7 hours is a LOT of time, so I may try to do a bit of geocaching around.

Looking at the map it looks pretty desert around the airport, but anyway, any recommendation/hints for a quick geocaching around, probably with a trolley and no, I won't rent a car?

Do you think creating an event in IAH would have any chance of success?

    Looking forward to your ideas

    Thanks in advance

  20. Hi,

    Imagine the following situation:

    - You go on vacation to a remote country thousands of miles from home

    - In that country you log 10 caches, half of them virtual

    - One of those virtuals require you to answer three questions by mail to the CO ...and you do so

    - Suprisingly the CO replies back (90% of the virtual caches I've done so far were "placed" by CO's that stopped playing years ago), and he tells you that "one answer is wrong"

    - You tell him that "ok, maybe the answer is not xxxx but yyyy, and that if that answer is wrong as well,he should feel free to delete the found, because you want to play fair"

    - He replies back that "yyyy is not the right answer, but I will not delete your log"

So ... what would you do:

    a) Thank him for the answer and for not deleting your log, and just keep the cache as "found"

B ) Thank him for the answer and for not deleting your log, but tell him that in order to be fair, you will delete the "found" yourself

    c) Nothing, just keep the cache as "found"

    ...and please answer honestly B)

  21. - the other one is that you can go to places where no data signal is available ... and then I'm lost.

FYI, GPS still works without cell reception. You just need to preload your maps, either using an app that lets you download maps, or when any other map app just scroll around the area you'll be using at your preferred zoom level(s) so that those tiles are cached and usable when offline.

And, as of one of the most recent iOS updates you can also now continue using GPS while Airplane mode is on. You used to have to turn off every feature independently in order to keep GPS on since AIrplane mode also disabled gps. Not so any more.

Effectively, you can now properly 'test' how well your phone perform while having no cell reception by turning on airplane mode, and seeing if your GPS still works in whatever app you're using. As long as you're using a 4S or later, you'll be fine.

Hey, thanks! To be honest I had a couple of bad experiences but they were indeed with my old iPhone 4. I just tried what you said on my iPhone 6, and indeed, provided the maps had been already preloaded it's all fine :)

... and I thought I had found the perfect excuse to convince my wife that I need a Montana or something similar ... B)

  22. Hi,

One question from my side. I've been using iPhones (first iPhone4 now iPhone6) since I started geocaching a couple of years ago, and I'm extremely pleased with them. There are just two drawbacks:

    - one is battery life (that you can always solve with an extra battery pack)

    - the other one is that you can go to places where no data signal is available ... and then I'm lost.

In the near future I'll be travelling to countries where the phone doesn't work or to places where there's no signal, and for that I'd need a "normal" GPS.

Now, which GPS model would you recommend for a user that is "spoiled" by the ease of usage, touch screen, maps and so on of the iPhone app?

    Thanks in advance
