  1. Here's the link. http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/details...9d-293a8df07bc4 If you edit it and check the box at the bottom marked "Make visible in directory" it should show (I think )
  2. I am recruiting members for the group to manage my 'Plank Roads' category. The category covers roads designed for vehicle transport that were once, or in some cases still are made from wooden planks. Evidence can be in the form of a sign or historical reference if the road is no longer planked. Wooden roadbeds over bridges are included - as long as they are designed for vehicles. The use of wood in road construction is a fascinating aspect of transportation history and it's surprising how many, now major highways, were once Plank Roads. It's open invitation so sign up here!
  3. There's at least one in Canada and it did have a micro hidden in one of the shoes
  4. I was hoping there was another way to do it - I wasn't yet ready to convert that pre-group category over to group management and this group was set up specifically for another category entirely.
  5. OK - I have a group. I've promoted the required number to officers. I have the "Congratulations, your group has fulfilled the prerequisites for managing a category." But I have no category creation form link - just a drop down box with my existing pre-group category in it - but that's not what this group has been set up to manage. How to I get rid of that and get a new category creation form? Must be obvious but I don't see it
  6. You only need one coordinate derived from your name which can be either latitude or longitude - the other coordinate can be anything you want - the challenge is to find another waymarker willing to take a picture at a location that includes your one coordinate. The write-up isn't as clear as it was when it was a locationless cache as it still refers to geocaching rather than Waymarking. It also looks like some waymarkers aren't playing the game right and just taking their own picture rather than finding another waymarker to do it for them. http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/default...7c-398479eb963f
  7. Ah but it's not about the numbers
  8. If it's London you're going to, there a a lot of excellent caches and I've done quite a few. I wouldn't bother about getting a map for your GPSr - you won't find it much help in London as the narrow streets and high buildings make GPS reception problematic. If you look at any of the UK caches you'll find a link to streetmap.co.uk which gives you such a detailed map that you should be able to find a lot of caches without even taking your GPSr out. Here are three examples (two are excellent virtuals, one of which you certainly don't need a GPSr for as it's deep inside a museum - probably the best virtual I've done) David's Autumn Wardrobe The London Stone 16th Century Pub I would print out the streetmap.co.uk map and load some caches onto a PDA and into my GPSr before I go. Lots of Internet access in London and elsewhere so a couple of times I've dropped into a cafe to log a find or look for an interesting cache in the area if I didn't bring some with me. The other invaluable resource for London is: http://stats.guk2.com/misc/tube.php The best way to go caching is to use the London Underground (Tube) system (subway to Canadians) and this interactive map shows where all the London caches are relative to stops on the tube. Enjoy your visit
  9. For a number of categories - especially the historic ones - the option box for date (dd/mm/yyyy) isn't too appropriate. Might know the year was 1686 but who knows when the date was. Could an option be added that just had the year in addition to the ones for date and time. Did look and couldn't find it but maybe I missed it.
  10. Funny I was thinking just the opposite although I guess it depends where you live. I immediately thought of a dozen or so close to home but then maybe that's because if I see a plaque I'm one of those who stops and reads the small print
  11. Great idea - and nice and simple - find a plaque, find the claim first something - no ambiguity. No plaque, no first, no waymark. I even have a few plaques logged already that could be recycled into this category (and I see you do too ). Count me in.
  12. I had the same issue with the logging requirements. Also wondered if this shouldn't be called Roadside Scenic Lookouts - from the write up it sounds like the intent is to waymark the ones you can drive to - not the ones that you park and hike 2 miles up a mountain to.
  13. That's clever - see my post above on what appeared to happen from my end - definitely a bug in there somewhere and I did see a file empty message while I was editing so maybe that is something to do with it.. Note added: For the record the email confirmation arrived at 9:26 PM local time, the approval confirmation arrived at 9:29 PM and I finished the editing, made the waymark active and hit submit at about 9:40 PM
  14. Not sure if this is a bug or a feature My usual practice with geocache page submissions is to leave the cache inactive until I've made sure the page is correct and the links work etc. My understanding is that it only goes for approval when the cache is made active. With a new waymark submission it is working differently. Just submitted one and left it inactive until I'd checked the links and added an image. Surprisingly when I made it active I found it had already been approved - several minutes before I'd finished editing it. Now that is impressive by geocaching standards but probably not the way it should work. I'm guessing that the email notification is going out as soon as the page is first submitted whether or not the active box is checked.
  15. I have call numbers 3 and 4 in two groups and got email notifications today a couple of minutes after two new waymarks were posted so something else must be going on in your case.
  16. These categorized lists of active and archived locationless caches as of last year might remind you of a few more: Active Locationless Caches Archived Locationless Caches They're a good source of ideas for new categories - just have to check that they haven't been rolled over to Waymarking.
  17. There is a collection of the Canadian Society of Civil Engineering National Historic Sites . (I have a cache hidden at one of course ) Would make an interesting category
  18. Thanks and looking forward to the updates. I'm already finding that KML link very helpful - good addition.
  19. Thanks - don't know how I missed that although it's not entirely obvious and I couldn't find any instructions on how to "Add to Favorites" anywhere. One more question - the Google Earth KML file shows Favorite category waymarks (but no link) - it shows both ones approved and ones waiting approval but also seems to show ones declined. I would have thought that if a waymark is declined it shouldn't show.
  20. I may be blind but I can't find where to add categories to My Favorites any more. I have some so must have done it before but how did I do it?
  21. Maybe hard to believe but that's the only one I can see (well I assume it's a BQ proposal - I can't tell by looking)

    Harvestfest

I'm with Annie on this one. Thoroughly enjoyed last years event and appreciated all the effort that went into organizing it but would be quite happy to come to something simple. I like informal events where you have the opportunity to meet local cachers that you rarely run across on the trails and swap stories. If there are a few new caches out in the area all the better but I don't need a marathon treasure hunt to have a good time. The London/Ingersoll/Woodstock area is a great one to hold an event - nice and central for those of us in SW Ontario (and Michigan)
  23. BQ has it right. Geocaching is a generic term (it's not trademarked) defined as being an outdoor activity involving hiding and finding hidden objects using GPS data and sharing this data with other players. If Parks Canada or any other land managing group establish a geocaching policy then it would apply to any listing service - not just the one owned and managed by Groundspeak. The geocaching wiki currently lists 9 of them.
  24. If you read the rules you have to have a good knowledge of French to participate so I guess there won't be an English page
