  1. Right - and I'm jealous 'cos I've only got one. Over to Half-Canadian.
  2. Thanks - OK here's an easy one: Who created the first loggable geocoin?
  3. Sure you can search on Canadian zip codes but they have a space in the middle. Try this one: P1H 1P5

The chances of running into a poisonous snake in Ontario are pretty small - there is only one, the Massasauga rattlesnake. It's rare, endangered and can only be found around Georgian Bay, Windsor and Port Colborne. You can see a map of its distribution in Ontario here
  5. This Bookmark List looks to be more reliable (for first caches that are still active). The other list is wrong - at least for Ontario.
  6. Do you have the popularity filter set at 100%? For your postal code I can see three of your waymarks but if I set the Popularity Filter down to 10% I only see the webcam since the popularity of the Catgories that the other waymarks are in are less than 100%.
  7. Glad to see someone with a hiding goal - if it wasn't for hiders there would be no finders. I did start out with a 1 hide for every 10 finds but I've long since slipped behind.
  8. There's a rather good database of impact craters here. Has lots of data including size, coordinates and aerial photos for 174 confirmed impact structures around the world. Might give you some good ideas for the category proposal.
  9. Great idea! That would make it a lot easier to see what's happened - and sort out some of the confusion that happens when you have several active group members. As for concerns about having comments visible to other officers - no concerns at all - in fact it's a great idea - if anyone has concerns about their comments being visible to other officers then they shouldn't be making the comments
  10. I have to agree having just got back from a vacation trip to the UK where I combined geocaching and Waymarking with the usual touristy things. Made for a very enjoyable trip. Didn't go out of my way to collect geocache finds or waymarks but as we toured around visiting areas I'd do a few caches and keep my eye out for interesting things that might fit a waymark category and recorded them. Particularly enjoyed the combination of "town tour multis" and Waymarking. A great way to see things the average tourist would miss and walking around with your eyes open for interesting plaques, statues, building etc. If I'd taken it seriously and had a list of categories I could have bagged a lot more than I did but as it was I have a good collection of photos and waypoints that in many cases will finish up as waymarks. An added benefit is that now I'm back I can do the research - looking up more details to include in the waymark log. For example we visited Cambridge. Did the town tour multi "Cambridge Dates" and found three "FIRSTS" along the way: FIRST - Announcement of the Secret of Life, FIRST – Discovery of the Electron, FIRST - Banker in Cambridge. All interesting (at least to me) and things I'd have likely completely missed if it wasn't for Geocaching +Waymarking. Now I just need to find the time to log all the rest of those waymarks I still have in the camera
  11. Can you link the saved waymark page here so I can try to reproduce your error? Thanks. -Nate It's this one: http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/details...12-a9212aecfab0 Curiously sometimes when I open it it says it's not approved sometimes it says it hasn't been sent for approval. Either way I get the error message when I try to submit it - either for approval or for saving. BTW It shows as being Listed by: Hard Oiler iryshe
  12. I entered a new waymark over the weekend but saved without submitting - I subsequently tried to edit and submit but I repeatedly got a: "You are not authorized to view this page You might not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials you supplied." Thought it might be related to the no email issue but I'm getting the same thing again today. Is anyone else having this problem or is it just me. Everything was working fine until this weekend.
  13. The World's Biggest locationless cache had over 400 entries when it shut down at the end of last year. So there are a lot out there. Would definitely make a good Category (I recall my find for the locationless was the world's biggest fiddlehead (a carving of one in New Brunswick)
  14. Thanks for starting this thread and I hope it provokes some good discussion. I certainly like the suggestions - especially providing the option to add other when the specific variable isn't listed. The ones that annoy me are ones where none of the listed options apply and there's no place to explain why they don't apply to the waymark I've found. I guess what is important up front is to think of variables that either: 1) Provide a spot to enter required information in order to log it as a waymark. Those shouldn't be optional and "other" should only be an option if you provide a place to put what the other is. 2) Would be a way of separating waymarks in that category meaningfully in the future (Benchmarks by Agency is a good example). I do see categories with a whole laundry list of variables, many of which don't meet either of these criteria. Maybe people see other future uses of such data that I don't. It would be good to pull all such info together and develop a "Guidelines For Listing Variables FAQ" - with input from the developers who have some vision on what tools might be available in the future that can sort/search variable field data.
  15. If you look at the Canadian Benchmarks category you'll find that there are links to many of these databases. The national one is the Canadian Spatial Reference system and the link only takes you as far as access page since you need to register to get to the actual database (its free). The BC one is MASCOT and that does have direct access and you'll find enough BC markers there to keep you busy for a long long time.
  16. Good idea - and I did like the old, but shortlived Locationless cache of unusual warning signs like:
  17. I guess I'm a variable minimalist as I find a great long list of variables most of which are irrelevant, or which don't have the right option for the waymark I've found, to be annoying so I would keep it only to ones that are relevant to all finds - in this case the approximate number of shoes. I don't really see why the type of tree or whether it's alive is relevant and it's hard to tell in winter. Also street address - I know the coordinates so why the street address and there are a number in parks so the street address isn't too obvious. OT maybe a thread on guidelines for variables would be appropriate and some comments from someone whi knows how variable data might be usable in the future - at the moment the only use I see is to force people to enter a required piece of information.
  18. Only if you fix the date - it should be December 26th 1791 which is when the Province of Upper Canada officially came into being. I thought every Ontarionian knew that
  19. I didn't see any of those either. I just sent you a note through Waymarking.com about one and didn't get a copy - wonder if you got it. Does sound like the emailer is broken today.
  20. That's very helpful thanks. I also see that you can see who Declined a submission so if you have a beef you can have a discussion with the decliner - not that I see a need to do that - ones I've had declined were all for perfectly valid reasons which were explained in a note - but it's always nice to know who's doing what.
  21. Well I have carefully avoided getting into this debate but I did have to correct the grammatical error. I hope you aren't offended but grammar is a noun, grammatical is the adjective . Other than that the wording sounds good to me.
  22. Hmm that sounds like a bug somewhere. BTW that is a very impressive landlocked lighthouse - I'm probably going to be in the area in a week or so and I'll have to look out for it.
