  1. Thanks for the info for GeoTruckers.com and GSAK. The program that I was referring to was the one that Dude/Sweet provided. Thanks to both of you. You guys in the forum are great. Always quick with good answers. Thanks.
  2. That's it. Thanks a lot. Have been searching for several days. You guys in the forum are great.
  3. Hi everyone, I need help. Haven't cached for a while and I had a computer crash and lost the program that I used to load my memos from CacheMate to Geocaching.com I don't remember the program's name, but it took my FoundItems-cMat.PDB file and posted the finds generated by CacheMate to Geocaching.com. Please help. Tired of logging twice, once in CacheMate and again in Geocaching.com. Thanks in advance. RV'er
  4. Another question: Recently had a hard drive crash and lost all the work with my Found Geocaches. Is there an easy way to download a PQ of all the caches found without going to each individual state and province in the US and Canada to get the info? Thanks in advance for the help. RV'er
  5. Just got GSAK 6.5 and started loading data. After working with the default DB saved as a new name. Did filters on new DB and saved as default DB after clearing Default of all waypoints. Then saved Default as a new DB name. Now to clean up my work space, I tried to remove the databases no longer needed. Have several that are not listed when I do the Database>Remove routine. The other databases appear in the drop down menu directly above the database listing. How do I get rid of the other DB's? Worked fine in the last version,
  6. Smittyware is great. I crashed my hard-drive and also lost all my geocaching software, CacheMate included. eMailed Smittyware and had my user name and product serial number emailed back to me in less then an hour. Same thing with GSAK, Clyde had my info sent right away. All I had to do was download the programs again and go through the registration procedure. I was up and running faster then getting my laptop repaired. (I have two computers - that's how I emailed Smitty).
  7. I am also a full-time RV'er (Thus my name). The problem that I have had is getting the reviewers to authorize one of my hides. Since I am rarely in an area for more than a few weeks. I have one virtual hide and one traditional that is located on my brother-in-laws property. I've attempted to hide other virtual caches (because of the maintenance problem) and have been refused because I don't live in the area. Is there a way to get some caches approved? I have some great ideas. I'm trying to do my part with seven Travel Bugs. What else can I do. Really want this hobby/sport to last .
  8. Is anyone using a logging program for getting CacheMate PDA found Memos into Geocaching.com? Will ExpressLogger do the job? What do you need from CacheMate to generate logs into GC.com. Is another program better? Or is it better to log individually? Right now I copy and paste from Palm Memos into GC.com. Is there a way to generate a found database in CacheMate to send to GSAK? Right now I open GSAK database, flag caches I've done and copy them to my Found Caches database. Thanks for the help. RV'er
  9. I, too, used EasyGPS. It was great. GSAK is sooo.. much better. Even if you never use it to send data to a PDA. GSAK has filters that help eliminate caches that you don't want to look for (DNFs, archived, Terrain of 5+, you get the idea). GSAK also gives lots of extra info about each cache. The program can also send your cache waypoints to other programs such as Map Source, Streets and Trips, etc. and also send the waypoints to your GPSr. Glad that this forum turned me on to it. RV'er
  10. My wife and I are always caching in new areas of the country and Canada. We go caching to explore an area. We have found that many times caches will take us to interesting places. I'd say that our caches fall in the #1 to #4 range. We try for #2s and #3s, but are not opposed to the quick cache and dash. Lately with our trip to Alaska we did a bunch of #4s. That is unless you count our going to Prudhoe Bay and doing 2 caches from Fairbanks, 800 miles round trip. Drive and fly. RV'er
  11. I agree, The forum information is perfect. You have helped me getting started with paperless caching then helped with caching along a route. You all have been great help. RV'er

  13. Read a great article from the Florida Geocaching Website called, " Route Planning: Waypoints Along a Route". The authors used Pocket Queries and MS Streets and Trips. Is anyone using there method? I have trouble where they generate a .csv file for Streets & Trips. Keep getting error messages. I think maybe it has to do with S&T using decimal degree coordinates. Is there a way to have GSAK or CacheMate generate decimal degree coordinates to export into S&T? Any help as always would be appreciated. Thanks, RV'er
  14. Okay, everything is great. Got my new Tungsten E2 PDA, got CacheMate, GSAK, and have generated PQ's of caches in the area. Have set up multiple Databases of caches on the PDA. Everything is great. Have toyed with logging caches found (haven't yet gone caching), writing logs, etc. Now for the big question. I have found caches, made notes, I export them to memos (do I also have to export records as well as logs?), Hot-sync to Desktop and can read memos on the Palm Desktop on my PC. Is there a fast and easy way to get the memos into GSAK?, and Mapsource?, and Geocaching .com? I like to keep a map of the caches I have done on Mapsource (sort of seeing where I have been). I used to keep a record of the cache descriptions in EasyGPS, now will keep in GSAK. Will ExpressLogger do the job? Is another program better? Or is it better to log individually? Is there a way to generate a found database in CacheMate to send to GSAK? Any ideas? Thanks, RV'er and thanks again for getting me paperless.
  15. Doesn't figure. Just bought an E2. It worked. Got my first PQ. Now all I have to do is wait for my new E2 to be delivered and I'm off paperless caching. Worked with GSAK until 2:00am this morning. Great program. Robert was probably right, I ran the one PQ late in the evening. Will probably get it next Sunday. Thanks again to all for the help. (I'll most likely have more questions down the road). RV'er
  16. First a special thankyou to "Old Bill" and Bear Paughs" for all of their help. Help!! Bought a Palm Tungsten E2 (on order). Became a Premium Member. Downloaded GSAK and Cachemate. Tried my first PQ. I got too selective and got a email stating there were no caches found. I went back into the PQ and changed to the general settings and resubmitted the request. Now I have waited for two days and no email containing the zip filed PQ. After I made the PQ, I got a message at the top of the Query page that stated Query was complete and I could view it on any cache page. I viewed the results and it was what I had requested, but no email. What did I do wrong? Was it because this was a second request in the same day? Second question - How do I use the call out quotes to reply to an individual postings? Third question - Is there a tutorial or help page for learning the fine points for these forums? Thanks, RV'er

  18. As my geocaching name eludes to, I am a full time RV'er. That is, I live in my motorhome all of the time. Normally I winter in south Texas, but occasionally in southern California or Southern Florida. All of my caches are traveled to and at the same time searched for while travelling. (Does that make sense). I have found caches in Key West Florida, St. Johns, Newfoundland, SanDiego, California, and our furthest north at Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. We could see the polar ice cap from shore at the end of the Dalton Highway and logged a First to Find (Never Saddle A Dead Horse). Always caching away from home or while at home depending on your point of view.
  19. Answered my own question. Just got finished reading the review by InfoSync World about the Garmin iQue 3200. Apparently it is a real battery eater. Goes dead in about 2 hours and 30 minutes. Depends more on automotive DC connection. Think I'll stick to the separate PDA & GPS route. (Besides, it will be easier to ungrade when technology changes). Now, what is the best PDA for geocaching. Have looked at Zire 31 and Tungsten E2. Any suggestions?
  20. Boy you guys are terrific. Questions are answered daily. Impressed. Next question, has anyone checked out the new Garmin GPS/PDA package. A bit pricey, but affordable at these on-line vendors. Is there an advantage to a combo GPS/PDA or is it just another toy? (We love toys ).
  21. Thanks for the info, again, about paperless. Am using EasyGPS now to retrieve waypoints and to transfer to my Garmin handheld. Will either of the two programs mentioned,
  22. Thanks for all the info on paperless. Need to purchase a Palm. Have been downloading waypoints to my Garmin but need to go paperless into the field. Will Cachemate download web pages? Info? Do I have to become a Premium Member to use services? (Not that I am against becoming one). Thanks
