  1. Gilsson Technologies You may not want to order the cord, but I got mine for a Garmin 12 from these guys and saved about $25 from what Dick's wanted (Gander Mtn doesn't sell my model cord anymore).
  2. Okay, so a new bug has come into the area and this area is more or less it's goal. Here's the think- the TB's goal is to go to a museum on OK City and the EAA in Oshkosh, WI. The bug has made it to Oshkosh, and is actually sitting less than a mile from the EAA grounds. By the way, EAA is a museum with a huge annual airshow. Now, the goal is to attend the airshow and have a photo taken. Here's the prolem- the airshow isn't for another 2 months-ish. It's sometime mid-summer. This bug isn't going to last in town until the airshow (and do we really want to keep it here?). I was thinking of emailing the owner, taking it's picture at the EAA building (the airshow costs a lot to go to when it is going on)- then sending it on its way to Okahoma, with part of its mission complete. Is it really viable to keep a bug in a city that doesn't even have a lot of caches for 2 months? I'll just ask the owner. Anyway- here's Jelly Airlines, half having met it;s goal.
  3. I always wonder if that sort of system (stars for how many you have found, etc) would cause *some* people to inflate their numbers just to get a better star rating- by logging caches they return to as finds each time or by whatever means. I'm sure there are some out there who would. Maybe. I don't know actually. At a different forum that I go to, they switched the software they use and one of the options was to have the post count by your name (like they do here). The admin there took that away the same night he added it because people were posting like crazy- one word posts- just to get their numbers up and get to the next "level". One thing that might be alright though would be an option to rate the caches that we log as finds- like how on ebay you rate the seller. Nothing to do with numbers- just actually more like e-opinions where you could rank caches you found based on a number of factors and that rating would end up on your cache page. Might not work though. And it would have to be so if you delete your Found It log, then your opinion is deleted from the poll- that way one vote per Found it note.
  4. I just went to look at Payne's Pain...it has been found as of April 10th.
  5. It would be interesting to see. I figure since there are only two caches in the city one of mine is in, maybe caches who live there watch to see when someone goe. Maybe for TBs. As owner, you would be notified anyway if your bug/cache was found (or placed in the case of a bug). I have a nearby bug hotel on my watch list as I go there to swap out bugs pretty regularly.
  6. Stairway to Heaven Is this the cache that you found? All you need is an account, then go the cache page and in the upper right corner of the screen click on "Log Your Visit". It's self explanatory from there
  7. Hmmm...I thought I was in this thread a few minutes ago when I replied in the Cachers one that says women on the bottom. I go alone the majority of the time but I leave if I get a bad feeling about a place. Like I said in the other thread, I find it unsettling when there's a weird looking guy just sitting in his car at a remote park parking lot. If it's in a nice neighborhood park that's pretty open and in a somewhat busy area I'm pretty okay with it. but I have left areas without leaving my car before.
  8. I'm female too- my boyfriend set up the account and had to force me to go with him a few years ago...now I'm the main user of the account and 75% of the logs are mine alone. I do go alone a lot of the time because he works during the day and I work at night (and have nothing else to do during the day!). I have no problem going alone...although there are a few places I've been that have made me uncomfortable and i left without getting out of my car. Why do creepy looking men like to park their cars in the middle of the afternoon in a remote park/natural area parking lot and just sit there? Creeps me out! Other parks i have been to people have been napping in their cars which I still think is odd, but if I don't get a bad feeling about them or the location (neighborhood parks I figure are pretty safe) I'll go.
  9. On the geocaching website, click on "Hide and Seek a Cache" in the grey area on the left hand side of the screen. The next screen has two main coloumns. on the right (grey background) is "Hide a cache". There's a link there to an online form you need to fill out to get approval. Also read the link to the guidelines for placing a cache. Hide and Seek a Cache Link For the logbook, I usually just get a little spiral notepad and write the name of my cache on the outside along with my name, then a little note inside welcoming the cachers. I put this in a ziplock with a pen and a pencil. Make sure you also print off the geocaching explanation sheet that goes into the cache. What you decide to put in it is up to you... I go to the dollar store and big Lots and clearance areas of stores and try to pick up little things that are kind of diverse (stuff for kids, a deck of cards, a little game or something). Just read the stuff on the link above. It'll tell you pretty much everything you need to know.
  10. I use the map it feature, then move the map along the route. When there are caches along the route I would be taking, I choose Identify and select those caches. It takes a little longer, but you get the same results.
  11. I usually don't trade anything. I go to caches for the purpose of finding them. When I do take and/or leave things, it's travelbugs. That's pretty much it. When I make a cache, I put stuff in it obviously, and since it's then a new cache I try to put good stuff in it and a variety of things (stuff kids would like, stuff adults might be more interested in, etc). I had a log on one of my caches awhile back that said they didn't have anything with them (left their goods in their car) so they left some acorns from the ground. Sure...I'll drop some leaves in the next one I find. Thanks! Oh well. The stuff I find in caches usually isn't anything I would want anyway.
  12. There's a WI/IL football TB game- check this one out: http://www.geocaching.com/track/track_detail.asp?ID=44349
  13. If anyone is interested you can intergrate GPS data into a GIS viewer that is free from www.esri.com. You can also download air and topo maps from the http://terraserver.homeadvisor.msn.com/default.asp that can be placed into the GIS viewing software. The airphotos are based on NAD83 cords.
