Nuvi 500 / 550 series is now very good in geocaching. Just copy gpx in it and you get cache descriptions, hints and last logs and caches with different cache type icons on map view. I have used topo maps of my country with it and it works fine also in offroad mode with compass view almost like in real handheld gps.

Yep, very annoying. However, using accented characters like åäö instead of th &-codes in html might be causing other problems so it is not sure that allowing them directly in html is the way to go. What this problem really shows is the lack of a simple html editor in the caching listing editor. If there was such an html editor, you would be able to write the text with proper scandinavian letters and then click on a button to create html code for it. It would also solve the problem with beginners not being able to insert images in their cache descriptions because they don't know html. Until this problem is fixed, I recommend you use an external html editor to edit your listings. Then you will also have a backup copy of your descriptions and can try out different things before you upload them to geocaching.com. Personally I use the html editor in SeaMonkey (SeaMonkey Composer, previously Mozilla Composer) and it works great for me. It generates html code that work very well in cache listings, clean and efficient code that renders properly also on GPS devices with paperless caching ability. Some people prefer the online geoching html editor on this Danish page: http://www.crumlin.dk/geocaching/html/editor/ and it seems to work fine too. However there is a really annoying bug with the new release: The generated GPX files contain strange looking &-code sequencs (& followed by auml; etc) and these files do not render properly on paperless GPS devices like Garmin Oregon!!! iller Are these matters going to be fixed sometimes in near future? Please explain what problems do letters of our language and in our keyboard (like ÄÖÅ) cause in this system. So that I and many other would undestand this change..

On huomattu. Ei kai tuolle voi muuta tehdä kuin pistää bugiraporttiketjuun englanniksi valitusta ja korjauspyyntöjä. Ääkkösiä voi kai käyttää edelleen, mutta ne muutetaan tallennettaessa tuollaisiksi, joten ei kannata editoida kätkökuvauksia tai ainakin kannattaa pitää kuvauksen tekstit omalla koneella tallessa ja kopioida sieltä kätkökuvauslaatikkoon, jotta ei tarvitse olla koko ajan korjailemassa ääkkösiä. On huomattu ja laitoin tuosta pari päivää sitten tuonne tämmöistä..

I have changed my EC photo requirements so that only the EC object in question is only needed thing to be seen in a picture. Photo quality is almost irrelevant as long as earthcache object can be seen there. Phone pictures or otherwise bad pictures are infact quite good as that really show finders own fingerprint that one has actually visited the site. I still think it is taking pictures don't rule out any educational purposes of EC's. In my mind seeing in general and making in this case photos yourself helps in learning process and is that way educational.

When I try to edit cache descriptions with scandinavian letters it is almost impossible as letters have became cryptic.. Can't explain more just look at the image. Everything with ä etc. are wrong. I have tried this in IE 8.0.6... and FF 3.5.6. Very annoying problem.

Give your nuvi a chance.. - Do pocket query from your selected area and when you got the gpx file save it in Nuvi's Garmin/GPX folder. - Or sometimes if you want only one cache, use GPX exhange file option on cache page instead of send to gps function. You get gpx file with one cache that you copy into Garmin/GPX folder. - In Gsak there is an option to make gpx file also that can be found on File->export->gpx/loc file. I don't use any macro's just that export and some filtering when I select caches. Copy that gpx file in Nuvis Garmin/gpx folder. I do this way and I'm totally happy geocaching with my nuvi 500. It works just like on pictures above, with cache names and descriptions and most recent logs.

On page what is now called Trackable items (YOURS)(Btw. I don't like that change).. When trying to SORT trackables that I own by LAST LOG, it won't work in any browser I have ( Opera, IE, FF, Chrome)..Other options (name and distance) work however. "500 - Internal server error. There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed." In MY public profile when looking all found geocaches. Distances from my home coordinates to found geocaches don't exist. Or is the option "Distances Measured in Kilometers Switch" there by mistake?

The largest geocache our team ( two adults and a two kids) have been is this. There was room to all of our team and desk for signing the logbook.

We use Garmin Nuvi 500..it has build in geocaching mode with paperless geocaching. If premium member there is, cache descriptions, recent five logs and hint and also possibility to use fieldnotes. It has also Wherigo but I haven't use it yet. We have also garmin 60 cx, but nowadays it seems that only device we take with us is Nuvi 500. Nuvi 500 is supposed to be waterresistant and it has a bit more solid case than other nuvis.

I would check first if walking mode is set to navigate "offroad". If not, something have happend in update and walking mode is changed to use "following roads" (or similar) like in driving mode. There is a setting where this can be chosen.

I concur. Mrs. Car54 I do too! I had same intention with my EarthCache geocoin but noticed that it can't be even drop and retrieve. Hey. new traveller log type - visited - would be nice! Just select that from bugs page and enter the cache where it has visited,and write your log as usual. This can be used only whey you have the coin, but tb milage would be then be calculated to that cache and coin actually stays in your posession until you drop it to actual cache. This could be used only on virtuals...Just speculating, but why not? Maybe it is too complicating to implement.

Please post info also to Garmin so they know this long cache name problem really exist. I did so and they haven't heard about this according to reply I got recenty. "Thank you for contacting Garmin Europe. Thanks for your email I will be happy to help. This isn't an issue that we have come across before with the Nuvi 550. Please could you email me one of the geocaches that you have been experiencing a problem with so that I could see if this issue could be replicated on a unit here. If we can replicate this issue then I can get this reported as it could be something which is fixed." And I sent this just two weeks ago and nuvi 500 has been about year now on market.
