  1. Big difference though is buying 50 codes at $1.50 each and jumping through a few hoops, or paying about $5.00 each for a TB to gain the number, then you have 2 'dog' tags' with that number as well. There is a big difference, and it's certainly more difficult, but if you want your own coin edition then just reusing Travel Bug numbers just isn't the same IMO. All depends on what a person wants. If a person wants to make their own coins it takes time, money, effort and jumping through a few hoops. It's best to know at the outset. To me having your own icon on the trackable list instead of the generic TB icon is worth the hoops.
  2. Absolutely! There are some rules and guidelines to follow though. These two threads are great places to start for the info: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=116641 http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=116800 In a nutshell, you buy the codes from Groundspeak (Last I checked they were $1.50 each, minimum purchase is 50 codes). Groundspeak must approve the design before they will sell you codes. There are a lot more details, info, and nuances that can be added to coining, but that is trackable coin making at it's most basic level. Good luck!
  3. I am not trying to get all the versions of this coin, but I would love to have one of yours from Afghanistan. If you have any left over, can I buy one? Thanks! You're on the list!
  4. I still have some available.
  5. That was when they switched from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar, and when the switch happened it needed the 10 days after 4th October that year to be skipped. So there has never been any such day. 5th October 1582 never happened. There's a whole bunch of time-travel sci-fi that say those 10 days DID happen, but were later "deleted" from the timeline. Thanks for the info, Pan! Great Scott!, This is an example of how to continue a friendly, civil conversation, not yelling at someone to look it up themselves.
  6. I might be too late to jump on the bandwagon, but I'm planning to do an Event in Munich. Therefore i want to ask you if you still have some spares? I have 18 still unspoken for. How many are you interested in?
  7. You left home without your coins ???? Perhaps you could enter the Easter mission later on if you are back Yes, one of the rules of thumb for in these instances is don't bring anything you don't want to lose, and I didn't have time to make proxies! I might be back in time for Easter, but it will be close. Might have to wait for a summertime mission.
  8. I'd join, but I'm halfway around the world from my coins and have nothing to send.
  9. Thumbs up from me too. That's awesome. As previously stated, I'd really like 2 or 3 of your edition. It looks really good, but also because it's Afghanistan and what it means that people are out there. I'll add you to the list.
  10. I don't get the Oct 5, 1582 reference...
  11. I recommend not putting the activation code in with the coin, for a couple of reasons. 1) The finder can easily retrieve the code themselves. 2) If the code is lost before they decide to activate it (or if they sell it to someone else and don't include the code), it can be a hassle to get the code again. Minor issue, but that's my preference. I'd rather retrieve the code when I'm ready to activate it.
  12. I'd love to do one, but all my coin money is tied up in other projects. I'll have to settle for trading for one.
  13. I figured it was about time to post the icons for the Afghanistan edition. It'll be called Ultra Pi Day - Afghanistan, 2015. 32x32: 16x16: I imagine the 32x32 icon for the other coins will have a similar template, just with different colors and without the "2015". The 16x16 they originally sent was just a half size version of the larger one. I didn't like it so I made a new one myself.
  14. I've had that happen a lot when I buy coins from other cachers. Contact the company that made it, or if that doesn't or won't work, contact Groundspeak. Often they want a photo of the tracking numbers to prove the coin is in your possession. They've always been pretty quick to get me the activation codes, usually within a day or two.
  15. I will have plenty extra. Getting them to you in time is the issue. I'll be able to get them to you in time if there aren't any delays. I'd be interested in getting a couple of your coins too, if available. Did you say yours were the Afghanistan edition? I'm in the UK. Yes, mine is the Afghanistan coin. I will have some available for you. How many are you thinking you'll want? I was thinking 3? Although 2 would be fine if you don't have enough. On the subject of getting them to us... I'm ordering a few of the Geoswag Flash Mob vresion too from Janae. Do you think when she's posting them out to both of us, she'd be willing to put those 2 or 3 of your ones in the package to me? That way we'd have them in time for the event. I'm holding a Pi Day event in London, UK. She might. We can ask her as time gets closer. I will have gobs extra. If I get more than 4 or 5 people at my event I'll be astounded. All in all it's probably a good thing there's fewer people here to have a meet with!

  17. I went ahead and sprung for a unique icon, so the Afghanistan coins will have a different icon from the others.

  19. Adding 2015 at least would be great ... unless they plan on using the same art and dies for the following year/s and just changing colors. That seems to be a trend lately. I would be up for taking 5 off someone's hands for our 3-14 event. No way we can handle or get rid of 50. We just don't have that kind of coin demand here. But - only if the date '2015' is added somewhere on the coin. I will certainly have 5 available for you if you decide you want them. I too would like to see 2015 on the coin.
  20. Nah, they still count as coins in my book. I love this series. I hope he continues it. Still looking for the Round Stone, Light Wood, and Cloth with Red ones. Anybody got them? Activated is ok. JB, FWIW I think several factors were in play that caused the apparent decline in geocoins: Glut of product as the economy tanked and people didn't have the money they once did, and FaceBook stole the Forums' thunder/near monopoly on coin news. Older designers quit, and the ones that replaced them didn't have the foundation of the forums. Pathtags satisfied the Geocoin itch for many folks in a huge way. Getting your own shiny metal objects made at 1/10th the price of coins is awfully attractive to a lot of people. Driving out any discussion of anything not trackable on geocaching.com turned a lot of people away from the forums and was a big mistake in my opinion. Demand for shiny metal objects is still there, it's just not here like it once was, it's been spread out across other sites and venues. It's a different coin world than it was 5 or 6 years ago.
  21. Don't know if it is intentional or not, (perhaps to avoid such date-writing differences) but it seems they've left off mention of the date entirely.
  22. Very nice! Congrats on your first personal coin. I'll have to see if I have anything you are interested in, once I return from my deployment.
  23. Ironically, their email ended up in my spam folder and I almost missed it Tell him, "Yes, yes I am. Let that be a lesson to not pull that kind of nonsense again!" It seems like a couple of times a year somebody gets the bright idea to brute force coin codes (usually the USA ones and those that start with "PC..." I just delete them without comment. The one time the person complained it turned out they had written down a code wrong at an event.
