  1. civilians. sorry, i just think it's a good one.
  2. post back and let us know how you did.
  3. i used the term 'civilians' in a couple of logs today, i think it sounds good. i don't mind muggle though, maybe cause i've never seen a harry potter movie. anyone want to vet 'civilians'?
  4. happy whatever to everyone. i started geocaching earlier this year and joined this board and it has been nothing but a pleasure. you have welcomed me and helped me, and i appreciate it. i learn something every time i log on. i wish you all nothing but the best this holiday season.
  5. thank you for a good hearty laugh at 8 am. well played, well played.
  6. if i may inquire, where are you going in florida?
  7. so i take it from the responses that when i go to japan next year that all i have to do is let my gpsr get the satellites there and then load in some coords and i'm off? i don't have to do anything different than i do here?
  8. okay, question, and this is gonna sound really dumb or really funny. i started a thread a few days ago about easy gps and loc files and got some great answers, so i downloaded it and went to connect my legend via the cable that came with it to my laptop and...uh...er...i do not have a serial connection on my laptop. there is something that looks like it, but it isn't. i thought the whole time it was. so what are my choices for connecting my legend to my laptop? is there a serial to usb cable or something?
  9. yessir, i just want to make sure i will continue with this before i go premium...
  10. Dude, Gore-Tex was designed for the rain.....which you guys have plenty of!! STP you are correct sir, but op was about layering...although... i do layer my beach towel over my trunks to change to dry shorts when leaving the beach...
  11. i would throw some suggestions out there, but living down here in the beautiful lauderdale/boca area i just don't have any...sorry.
  12. thank you for your quick response. so do i need to download easygps, and will it work with a garmin etrex legend? i have to say this is one of the most helpful forums i have been on.
  13. okay, so i just realized that i may be able to download the waypoints to my etrex legend using loc files and easygps. can someone tell me: could i just download easygps and then just pull up a single cache on the seek page and hit the icon to download it to my etrex legend? the only thing i am trying to do at this point is not hand enter the coordinates. do i need to be a premium member just to do that? thanks.
  14. well, can someone please explain what this all means? i'm not sure if i am doing it the hard way or not. i could not understand the original post as far as which way they were doing it before compared to how they are doing it now. sorry for my ignorance, but i'd really like to know.
  15. i hope i'm not over-simplifying, but you can get the lat/lon coords for any geocache off of this website, then just go to 'mark' on your handheld and punch them in and away you go. why don't you try that to get started? either thru laziness or fear i have not tried to hook my gpsr to my computer, but i don't mind as of yet just manually loading the coords and going out and having a great time.
  16. Not for geocaching, but they are fine for driving directions. If you want something that can be used for geocaching and driving directions, look at the Garmin Quest. Curious, why won't this one work for geocaching. What do i need in order for him to geocache as well as driving directions rob Well, a three hour battery life before recharging and most car units are not water resistant. I checked out the specs on the Magellan web site and it did not mention any water resistance specification. The Garmin Quest, as mentioned by Briansnat, is a good compromise. I never actually geocached before. Can I at least try it with the magellin one. The reason I likie this one is because the price and the big screen for my dads bad eyes. Plus it talks. I guess what I am asking is..is it totally impossible to geocache with the magelline one. Thanks again for everyones help Rob if i may ask, if dads eyes are bad, as you say, why is he even driving to begin with???
  17. I actually did when I was in junior high school... about two decades ago. Didn't do the branding at each station (started at Station 5 Kawaguchi-ko side), since I didn't know, or it wasn't available then. I still remember the headache from altitude sickness at the peak, and watching the sunrise between stations 8 and 9. Best part? Running down the mountain via "sunabashiri." i started at station 5 also, i think everyone does or has to. good times. but i guess i threw the thread off topic.
  18. i hope this hasn't been asked and answered but can someone give me a simple answer as to which one is better and why? for if my wife let's me upgrade from my legend ever.
  19. have you been to japan before? have you climbed mount fuji before? i did and i'm looking at my mount fuji walking stick right now. it has a branding from each station on the way up, and the summit. you gotta get one of those.
  20. i figured i'd look thru both lists and pick out a name i'd use for each, but every single one of them is so funny, i can't decide.
  21. jaySTE, team tettamanti have the same avatar, just sayin...
  22. say i find a cache and i have nothing to trade, but i see something in there that i think is really cool, would it be acceptable to put say a fiver in there and then note it in my log, took **** left a fiver?
