  1. you probably already know this, but it really hit home for me the other day. we were in a meeting at my office and during a break we found 2 of my coworkers vehicles had the window smashed and gps stolen. 1 guy had a nice set of golf clubs in the car untouched and 1 guy had his radar detector and toll pass on the dash, all they took were the gps'. i have a little semi-secret stash box under my regular console box, so i was pretty safe. but, the cops said, believe it or not, that even if you hide your gps in the car, what they do is look for the telltale marks left on the windshield from the suction mount and may break in to look for it. down here in sofla, gps' are getting stolen like crazy.
  2. thats why i hardly ever buy stuff online. i want to see it, feel it, open it, check it out before i buy it. i know most of you have had nothing but success buying online, but not this kid. i ain't doing it.
  3. i'm pretty sure you can go to tracks, saved tracks, click on individual ones, click on the menu icon at the top, and scroll down to 'delete track'. it will ask you if you are sure you want to delete the track.
  4. i hope this is allowed, i saw this great deal and thought i would share. i 'think?' it's a great deal. costco has the garmin nuvi 650 for 299.99 right now. http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?...GPS_BCEmail_247
  5. Absolutely! A Nuvi 200 is exactly what I own! would you mind if i pm you later for additional help? i usually use a legend for geocaching but i would love to 'get all i can' out of my nuvi as well.
  6. wow, this topic is getting me excited. i recently got a nuvi 200, can i do all this as well?
  7. As long as no shovel was involved in the placement of the cache then it is indeed fine.... is that true?
  8. this has never happened to me, i only have 30 finds. you got me to thinking how i would react in the same situation. if we decided to look for it together, cool. if the person just wanted to grab it solo to be ftf my thoughts would be "well, obviously this is the most important thing in this person's life, so bless their heart." then after they found it i would just smile at them. ftf's are nice, i have a few, but they are not what geocaching is all about...to me anyway.
  9. ditto. i don't have a dog, and don't want a dog, but still, i can't imagine getting that riled up about someone's dog pictures that i would post about it let alone say i hate it.
  10. Ditto, I've only traded a single time. I can't remember the last time I looked through a cache's swag or even travel bugs, I usually sign and go. pretty much the same here. i am not into trading, out of the 30 i've found there was 1 that had something i actually wanted so i just put some kaysh in there for it. i usually have my 8 year old daughter with me and she is the same way, i tell her she can trade if she wants, but she never does. the big excitement for her is to find it and sign the log.
  11. in a box with HER stuff. i guess i put it there so I wouldn't lose it?
  12. FOUND IT!!! actually my wife found it. guess i won't be getting that map 60csx or whatever. glad i found it.
  13. i put it away. this happens to me all the time, but i hide stuff so well i can't find it. i never learn i guess. last time i saw it, it was on the kitchen counter and i said "i'm gonna stash this so the movers don't steal it or anything." now i can't remember where i put it and i checked everywhere and in every box. oh well...
  14. well i bought a new condo a month ago, and guess what's the only thing i can't find after the move? that's right, my gps. it was only an etrex legend, but the memories of the the short time i had it is really bumming me out.
  15. hi there. well i have only 30 finds most in the ft. laud/boca area. most of them aren't too exciting since florida is so flat. here is one that is in a nice park, and there are a few others in the same park: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...fb-a29bbf3e89e0 i don't know if you'd be able to get out to a place near delray called peanut island, but there are a few caches there as well. it's an island that you boat out to, i think they have some ferry's, and it's a pretty good party there on the weekends. i'll link one of the series that is on the island, as well as the website of the island: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...1f-f36414c08b64 http://www.co.palm-beach.fl.us/parks/peanutisland/ i hope you have a good time no matter what.
  16. let us know how it turns out...
  17. How did you stumble across the final stage? I was in the library with my sister looking for a movie, I walked over to the computer where she was and she whispered "those two guys there are geocachers" They then pulled a book off the shelf with a large geocaching sticker on it. I thought "oh cool a geocaching book that isn't the Idiot's Guide to Geocaching, I'll have too take a look at that" So after they left I went over there and didn't find the book. So I went back to the computers and noticed they had been using the one next to my sister, they also had left their search up, so I went and found that book. My sister was saying "come on hurry up we need to get a movie and go" So I took the book to the movie section and opened it there. I then realized this was a cache!!! And a logbook!!! So I really wasn't sure whether I should log but it sounds like I could and I think I will because the farthest I've gotten on a multi so far is frustrated hours of looking for the first stage twice. are you serious?
  18. this thread is riveting. keep up the good work everyone.
  19. the advice given above is great. as somewhat of a newbie myself, i just wanted to tell you to keep your chin up. i have just 28 finds, but many of my logs say "i found it right when i was about to give up." i learn something on every find, and i feel like my geosense is getting better every time. geocaching is really just like anything else, the more you do it the better you get, so keep at it.
  20. he went to eat some eggplant.
  21. i found one of these that was the first part of a multi, it had the coords for the next stage inside. trying to remember now, but i don't think i had to sign this one, just get the coords. the way it was placed was in plain sight, once you found it, if that makes sense. you didn't have to move any leaves or anything like that out of the way. i'll bet a thousand kids have seen it and thought nothing of it. i thought in that type of situation it was pretty cool.
  22. Find counts are a tally, not a score. Since someone else's tally has no effect on you or anyone else, how is it "cheating"? For all you know, this "person" is actually a team, and the caches were place by one member, and found by another. My suggestion? Find something worthwhile to worry about. Try global warming. Tally... Score...Same thing. The point is this member is not being honest with their finds. And I'm not worried about it. However I WOULD worry about global warming if it actually existed. it's 83 degrees here in florida today, it's been about 5 degrees above normal all winter. what do you call that?
  23. in a couple of weeks won't you let us know how you're making out...
