  1. i see so many posts on here about freeze-ups, buzzing, etc. issues when people load free maps on their gpsr using a card. is it that bad? i'm not too tech-y but i'm also not wanting to spend money on city nav and topos if i don't have to. i bought a bland micro sd card, but i'm afraid of problems, i'm getting cold feet so to speak. discuss.
  2. haven't watched yet, i will. anyway i think i was the first? to ask for this subject so...thank you so much. can't wait to watch it.
  3. i'm not being negative, i just asked a question. my thinking was that when you're normally talking to someone you are supposed to make eye contact, so i figured when you are asking one of the most important questions you'll ever ask someone that eye contact is somewhat important.
  4. after you have the unit on, you push the button on the top right side until you get to the menu screen, then you use the only button on the front to move to 'mark', then you push it in and it will show the coordinates of where you are at the moment and on the bottom of the screen will pop up an area where you can edit the coords, you do that all using that front button or click stick, once the coords you want to go to are in, you go to the bottom of the screen and click 'goto'. it's pretty easy, although laborious if you are inputting many coordinates. enjoy.
  5. never had those or any problems with my vista hcx. sorry.
  6. i hate to sound like a broken record, but i got my vista hcx for right around the same price as the legend hcx. for a couple of weeks i checked the websites of target, wally, and amazon. they put up sales for a short time, and when the vista was 169 i jumped on it. few hours later it was back up in price. does take a little time though.
  7. i guess this is a good place to ask: say i found exactly where a geocache was supposed to be, but it was partly missing. what was holding it in place was there but the rest wasn't. what if i posted a note as such and asked the cache owner to sign my name for me when he put it back? i've never done that, but on one that was far from home i thought about doing that.
  8. Are they really? well, for people that like the top-of-the-line units, best of the best, go with the garmin.
  9. i'd go with the garmin as well, they are known to be the best units out there.
  10. Maybe my thread title should read "Logging a Find When It Should Have Been a Needs Archived". Do some seasoned cachers (and IMO anyone over 50 finds is a seasoned cacher) really not realize when the different situations should be used (Find, DNF, Note, Needs Maintainence, Needs Archived, etc)? oh cool. i'm a seasoned cacher! thanks, you made my day.
  11. i kept checking wally and amazon and target online, they put stuff on sale for short periods of time. if you have a week or two and are diligent, you are likely to find a good deal.
  12. ^^^someday i will be trading in my trusty trek fuel for a santa cruz^^^ oh gosh, i hope he didn't see me post that.
  13. i usually put a hunnert dollar bill in as my FTF prize.
  14. only prob is that i didn't know it was fake until i looked in it, without a screwdriver, just lifted the lid that covered the outlets and voila, only a logsheet was in there.
  15. Any cache that has you looking into utility boxes should not be allowed (IMHO). Especially when a screwdriver has to be used. First off is its dangerous, and second is that the property doesn't belong to the CO or the seeker. Anyone who would encourage someone to use a screwdriver to remove an electrical access panel is someone who needs a reality check. They have to remember that there are kids who can use tools who are looking for caches. Sure, an adult might know better but a 14 year old kid might just die. i agree, but i've found a few that were fake electrical boxes and such, those were pretty fun.
  16. well, you are supposed to 'trade even or trade up', but just like anything in life there are people that don't 'do the right thing'. besides, you usually won't find anything too valuable in a geocache. i know you are new, but i would say don't get too excited about what you are going to find in a geocache, get excited about the actually finding the geocache. i practically never even look at the swag, it's all about the hunt for me. have fun either way.
  17. i bike all the time, but i've never biked and geocached. i ride a full on mountain bike, but for those of you interested, i second flask's suggestion on the electra. my wife has a townie 7 and it's awesome, i even ride it to the store sometimes.
  18. you don't have to create a waypoint and walk a bit and create a new one. just input the coordinates of the geocache you want to find and navigate to it.
  19. i've never had that problem with my vista hcx...since i said that i probably will now.
  20. why don't you just ask her face to face? that's the realest thing you can do.
  21. BRB, OTJ AAAA. guess i'm gonna need a translation...
  22. I hope a true "old timer" will set me straight here, but I suspect that they were originally used only in the paper logs to conserve paper. That, or were used to speed up logging and cache page retrieval on the old dial-up connections. Incorrect. People are lazy. People have used them in everything the do. I suspect it is because they sound "cool". It isn't limited to geocaching. Here are a few you may have heard outside our little sport. AA JFK AMD CPU LOL SAT OMG AKC Most professional groups have there own lists. Just ask the AMA. I'm sure they'll get back to you STAT. you should join the AAAA.
  23. if money weren't an issue for me i would have gotten the 60, but i am very happy with the vista hcx. i'm also not concerned about paperless caching, maybe because i don't go geocaching a lot, or maybe because i just like the challenge of finding without any help except coordinates. like i said, very happy with the vista.
  24. i could only afford the vista hcx but i've been very happy with it, no complaints.
  25. my vista hcx appears to be very very accurate.
