  1. For me, I use my phone a lot more than my GPS unit. I purchased the GPS for when I am in an area with no service or if it is heavily wooded.
  2. It has happened about 4 or 5 times with me so far. Seems to happen the most when you are in a touristy spot or when newer caches have been placed. Always fun to meet cachers and talk shop.
  3. This may sound simple, but you have the GPS feature turned on on your phones? A lot of people shut those off to save battery life (really doesn't seem to use a lot to leave it on).
  4. I have ran into other cachers multiple times while out caching. Most of the time we join together while on the hunt for the cache while trading caching stories. Sometimes we hit a few other together, other times we have found the one together and then head our separate ways. I haven't got a FTF yet, and it isn't a big deal to me until I happen on that FTF cache LOL.
  5. Number pumping is pointless. It isn't like there is a prize for the one that can cache them all
  6. Since I live in a big city, I get a lot of urban caches that require "stealth." Definitely the worst thing you can do is try to be stealthy. It never works. Just act like you normally do. Now if I come up on a cache that is a busy spot, I might try back another time when it might not be as busy, like early mornings or evenings. When I was on vacation, there was a cache in the middle of the high tourist area. During the weekend this cache would be impossible to get, but happened to drive by where I thought the cache was during the week and had no problem getting it quickly. And lastly, if anyone stops you, just tell them what you are doing. Most likely they will be interested in trying it out themselves.
  7. I normally hold off on logging EarthCaches as found until after I send the email to the owner with the questions. Most EarthCaches around me are already in locations where I don't have cell or data service on my phone, so I wait until I get home that day until I log. The problem I see with "waiting until the owner approves your find" is what if the owner stops maintaining the cache? Of the couple EarthCaches I have done, they are in very busy locations (National Parks) and doubt the owner still maintains the cache. If you follow those instructions, the cache owner may never get back to you to "approve" you finding the cache. Send the answers and then log your visit.
  8. I picked up the Magellan Explorist GC about a year ago when I found a good deal ($70) on a 1 Sale a Day site. I definitely still use the app on my Smartphone a lot more than GC, but I do find it works well for the times you will be without cell service for a long time (National Parks) or are going to be in heavily wooded areas for long times. But after finding that I can also "cache" maps on the BackCountry app, I will probably find myself using the GC less.
  9. The issue would be if the finder could figure out how to refold it exactly the way you did. Also paper seems to become more and more week as you continually fold it cause it to tear. So I don't think it would be an "advantage"
  10. I have only ran into one cache that used that type of container. Luckly I would say the bottle had a "wide-mouth" design and wasn't very difficult to get the log out of it. I can definitely see where a narrow opening container would make things difficult.
  11. I honestly like the Micro's since I don't trade stuff and like the challenge of looking for something so small and generally in a high muggle location. Finding that good spot for a larger cache can get tough in some areas. Also spots could seem very inactive but have seasonal activities that would draw a lot of attention to the area, requiring the micro.
  12. Sometimes it is just better to get out and walk instead of driving.
