  1. I am the other half of the project. And admittedly the less technology minded half. I am a member of Local Hikes and will post the trails on the site. I can use some new ones. Up until now I have just drawn the maps by the mapping tool, not used an upload from my GPS. Here are my hikes PSUPAUL
  2. I agree about a palm and cachemate. Yes you have to pay for it, WOW $7 whole dollars, but it works great and is quick. I tried the Plucker/Spinner option and it was a bunch of steps and I kinda got lost. I was using a Palm 3XE and would love to upgrade but I cannot really justify it. This one does everything I need and works great. Here is a link to a tutorial about cachemate and palms Using CacheMate
  3. A tract is a small pamplet that has religious information in it. Most of the time they are short comics with a moral at the end and furthur info. I knew I was OT and pushing the line with my last comment, but I couldn't resist. I actually agree about tracts, but for a different reason. I don't agree they are crossing the line, anymore than any book, Bible, or literature from other beliefs. I just think they end up getting trashed and clutter up the cache.
  4. Here are some pictures from Trash & Trout In Pa 2004 This is the group, minus a few later arrivals We filled that puppy, and most of it's nearby brother, with over 100 bags of trash! We camped out the night before, did a group night caching hunt, and even used a laptop and cell phone to make some last minute changes to the coordinates for a new cache, which Keystone Approver released early the next morning. Thanks for all the help NEPA cachers!
  5. Exactly, but the point is a major part of his identity is Christian, not just spiritual. He was not asking anyone to convert, just read or not read, but either way it is available and the view is great!
  6. There had to be something else to it not being approved. Just because a spot can evoke a spiritual feeling shouldn't be a reason to deny it. I know of a spot where I felt a serious lump in my throat from the sheer beauty of it. I'm sure those of faith would have felt closer to God at this spot. Would that be a reason to deny it? I think not. There is a difference in proclaiming your beliefs and encouraging others to follow it. Seems some can't tell the difference. Again, as I understand, it was because of the book inside. The cache did not have a religious name or require deciphering Bible versus to solve a clue. He has posted it on that n-cache site and is available for review there. He was told it was unacceptable and it was archived for pushing a religious agenda. He has since canceled his premium membership and temp disabled his other caches. Luckily has has not yet done anything like archiving caches. He was asked by the approver what the book was, when he responded with the title he was told the response shown above.
  7. Just to clarify, as I understand it there was a container, just no trade items. You have the option of reading some of the book and writing a thought or just admiring the view. Either way you could log it online and he would accept it. Another aithiest in the area said it would not offend her.
  8. My faith is a big part of my life also. And I also am not a big proponent of tracts, mostly because they can become a soggy mess, as most paper items can become. I have been know to leave a cross or two, I always figure someone can pass it by if the don't want it. I have a question because of an issue that happened recently in my area. A well know cacher tried to place a new cache that was logged as a mystery cache. He stated "I found this spot by bushwacking and thought that there was a rock here that resembled a lizard sunning itself on the rocks. I have many fond memories of coming to this spot to be alone and talk to God. He was faithful to talk with me so many times here. I hope you have the same experience. This cache isn't your normal cache. There's nothing to exchange here, just a small book to peruse and a pen to write a note or two for future finders. Please be discreet in what you write and spend a couple of minutes gazing out over the landscape." This cache was not allowed because it had a religious agenda. The book was a devotional called "Life's Little Instruction book" What are your thoughts, should this cache have been approved?
  9. In their eyes game lands exist for the sole purpose of hunting. I am definitely not defending them because we should be able to coexist. But they feel that game lands are bought with money from license sales and should be saved for that purpose. It is a shame because they are a great resource that should not sit idle except for the 2 weeks of deer hunting. Plus, I don't think they realize how many cachers are also hunters. Hopefully a well organized lobbying campaign is all we need to change this stance. edit- Out dadgum typos!!!
  10. As originator of this post I assume I am on your list. If not please add me. Thanks,
  11. Sorry, just a bit closer but not less exotic... well, maybe less exotic than Nepal...
  12. NO!!! If they don't know then they shouldn't know! Oh, OK, it is North East PA. At least someone read my post! CITO posting don't get a lot of hits do they. Hopefully more people will show up than responses we get to forum posts. Actually we hope to have a fairly good turn out.
  13. In PA the Road Dept will do it for free as part of the Clean Up PA campaign. You just have to register your event here!
  14. Well, it will only cost you a few hours of CITO. The manager of Moon Lake Park has graciously offered us the use of his group camping area for the Trash & Trout In Pa 2004 CITO event on April 17th. We are able to camp Friday evening or Saturday evening, whichever you prefer. Come, camp, CITO, and even do some trout fishing at one of the best spots in Luzerne County PA. At this point we have no organized pot luck meal, though I am attempting to get some donations of food, drink, and maybe even door prizes for those that attend! What a great deal. Please post a note and let me know if you are interested in camping and what day you are interested in.
  15. Wow, over 50 reads and no responses. Maybe I should have put that it was in NEPA in the subject line. Oh well, too late to change it now. Come on people, CITO is NEATO!

  17. I agree, get it in the magazine! And a recorded version would be awesome too.
  18. Isn't it just as easy to take the picture with the other side of the tag showing? Then you have the tag to show scale but only Superman with Xray vision could read the number.
  19. Yellow Dog, you have my sincere condolences. My Black Lab Chloe is about 10 years old and we had a little scare right before Christmas. She is fine now but is starting to show her age. But if you get out a ball or grab her leash all the puppy that is still in her takes ahold of her. My wife (and me also) is really dreading the day (hopefully a long time from now) when she will join Yellowdog and share caching stories. Hopefully these posts have helped in some manner. Team GeoRemdation staring Chloe the Lab!
  20. Sorry, it is now April 2 and I can tell you that the info I received was not an April Fools joke.
  21. Come one come all, cause we can really use the help! Trash & Trout In Pa 2004 We are registered with the Great PA Cleanup and are trying to get some food donations. We also may have access to the group camping site for free, if everything dries out in time (it doesn't look good today but we can hope). Check the page for updates and log your attendance notes! I hope there will be lots of them. This is a pretty cool park owned by Luzerne County and it could use the help.
