  1. There was also a different issue with the III+. I put in a post about this one too. I'm sure they will be able to get to the bottom of the II+ problem but we may need some follow up information from you. I will keep you posted. Edited to reduce size of quote in message Thanks, and no problem on follow ups. I don't read the forums every day, but I have this one on my watch list, so I should be able to respond with any info in a timely fashion. Gary
  2. As GSAK uses GPSBabel "Under the hood" to send waypoints to your GPS, it very much sounds like a GPSBabel/Garmin II+ issue. I will place a post on your behalf in the GPSBabel list and see what we can find out. Off the top of my head, it would seem that waypoints for the Garmin II+ must be 6 characters at least. In the mean time I suggest you use the smart name feature and set the length of the smart name accordingly. This also begs the question - why are you using the very unfriendly GCXXXX code to send to your GPS? The Garmin GPS II+ will accept any length up to 6 characters. I was using another program to do my waypoint management and it would upload/download the shorter ones fine. I didn't know that Babel was the download method within GSAK. Maybe I'll play around with that just to see if I get the same results. Thanks for posting the info on my behalf. Is the GPSBabel list on here, or another board? As far as why I'm using the GC code, I guess all I can say is that it takes a while to teach an old dog new tricks. Not that I can't learn, just that I have done it the old way so long, it's become 2nd nature. Easy to search for caches using the unique id code as opposed to names. Gary
  3. Be gentle with you? How dare you find a bug in GSAK, I will now have to break every bone in your body. Ok, now that I am just laying around in a body cast, I have another undocumented feature that I can't figure out. I did a filter to come up with caches I wanted to do. I downloaded them to my Garmin II+. I noticed that the number of waypoints in the Filter didn't match the number in my GPSr. Went through one by one to find out what didn't make it to the unit. It appears that none of the records that only had GCxxx as a Code made it to the GPSr. Everything that had GCxxxx DID make it fine. I also noticed that the GPSr had a message about "Invalid Waypoint" on the screen after the download. Any ideas on this one? Gary
  4. I just started using GSAK last week, so please be gentle on me. Here is a possible bug, or feature I haven't figured out yet. I do an export of Street Atlas text file. I configure the screen so that Found=Star, Not Found=Cross, Placed=Circle, and Archived=Power. The export works fine. Now, when I go back to do a second Street Atlas export the Power symbol is in the Found section and Archived Image is blank. Feature, bug, or just something I should learn to live with? Side note here is that I'm having fun using this program. It is starting to save me time. Course, the saved time is spent reading the help file. ha ha Gary
  5. Krandor, Don't give up! People don't always read the forums on a regular basis(I'm talking from experience!). Just put the message out there and wait. As part of the first team to find this one, I can tell you it will be worth the wait! Gary
  6. Way to go! Warmer weather and more caching is on it's way! Gary
  7. Chicago has been nice to your numbers. You are going to go through cache shock once your wife and kids move up with you and slow you down. congrads. Gary
  8. Congradulations. Sorry I missed you at the event. Here's to 400 more. Gary

    Disquoi Caches

I have adopted it and as soon as it gets warmer I will check it's condition out. I have solved the puzzle, but haven't been to it yet either. If you happen to go there before I do, please let me know the condition of the cache itself. It is disabled ONLY because I haven't verified it yet and feel it is my responsibility to do so before making it active again. Gary

    Disquoi Caches

I figure I better send this out before some of you put out a hit list on me. I have adopted DisQuoi's caches. I am trying to get 4 of them back to active status. Because of events of the past, many people had double log entries. I went through the logs and deleted ONLY the duplicate logs. If you receive a message that I deleted your log, please check your find list, and the cache page and you will see that your log is still in place. Again, I am only deleting the DUPLICATE entries! The rules are only one find per cache on these, so I'm not doing anything to cut you out of your find. Sorry for any misunderstanding. I'm just trying to do the right thing with these caches. If you have found, in the past, either of these two caches - GC9574 Les Anges Volantes GC4178 You Are The GPS! And you would like to help, please check the log entries and see if you have 2 entries. Most of the time both entries are exactly alike. Please delete one of your logs. Yes, your count will go down by 1 or 2 depending if you found one or both, BUT, you are only allowed one find per normal cache and that is what will be left. Gary - GLM
  11. Thanks People!! I missed 500 by 3 no finds this past weekend. One was expected, the other two seem to be MIA. The past year and half has been a blast searching for caches, but most have been done by my lonesome. Recently I have made many new friends and have found a whole new enjoyment to caching by doing it with friends. Especially when it is such a long way to the next cache! Gary
  12. Congrats! I haven't been viewing the forums lately and sorry this is late. You are probably getting close to 400 now. Glad I was part of some of those finds. It's always nice to have company on the trail at times. Gary
  13. Congrats! Glad I was able to share some of those finds with you rather than just reading about them, especially B&G. Gary

  15. I agree with Donbadabon completely. Plus this will give you so much more to talk about once the journey is complete. I couldn't be with TeamNoVa12 when they did Stage 4, so I visited it at a later time so that I knew exactly what everyone else was talking about. TeamNoVa12 can't wait till group II finishes this one so that we have others to share "our" stories with! Gary

    Blood & Guts Cache

Trust me, Team NoVa12 knows that feeling all too well!!! And it doesn't get any better either! The more you work on it, the more you "want" to work on it. Gary
  17. You don't necessarily need a large group, but being a diverse group is a plus.

    Pda Downloads

I remember reading that people have problems getting the gpx file because of anti-virus software and such. I seem to remember some ISPs not allowing the file/filename for whatever reason. You may want to try to receive your gpx file in a zipped format to see it that takes care of the problem. Gary
  19. I though of one possible way to get the word out. When logging a find on a new cache, put in a blurb that points to this discussion. I know that when I first joined geocaching.com, I didn't read the forums for quite some time. So, by leaving a note in a log on the main website, it may get others to look here. Gary
  20. It feels like just last week that I was saying congrats on 700 and I notice you now have over 800. You've been busy! Congradulations Gaiter Man Gary

Four us made the hike into the swamp. A fifth showed up not know that we were even there. Finding the original cache was not to be. One of our members figured that Isabell probably claimed the cache and Travel Bug inside. Ahhh, but JoeCthulu thought far enough ahead to bring a replacement cache. It's not much, but at least the next seekers will have something to find instead of an empty hiding spot. I'll post some pictures over on the cache page shortly. I would never attempt this cache in any temps above 20 degrees! I could just imagine the mud. We had a great time. Gary

Looks like everything is set for an 8am meeting at JoeC's house on Sunday. Going to be an interesting morning! Gary

I'd like to be at the cache parking area by 9. I wouldn't want the sun to hurt our trip in. From everyone I've heard from, the colder the better. One of the original finders said there is parking across from the park on the side street. Gary

    Blood & Guts Cache

Thanks Guys and Gals for making the time 11:30. I just got home and it's 1:15am. That will give me enough sleep and I'll be there at stage one. See what we find at stage one and go from there. Thanks again for changing the time. Gary

JoeC, Heck yes I would like a guide! I was kinda hopeing you would be available. I looked at the weather again and Sunday morning looks like when the ground should be frozen the most and have been subjected to the cold the longest. How would that be for everyone? Also, I drove by the area and saw a possible entrance. There is a school on Riverside that has a park in the back. It's almost due east of the cache. According to my map, the creek runs right by there. If there was access that way, it could avoid a creek crossing. Did you happen to try that way? It doesn't appear to be any shorter, just no creek/river crossing. Gary
