  1. Ye the personalization is really nice, but too bad it is not password protected, but then again some might not care. Altering firmware is still a little more permanent. I have always wished users had an option to password protect the entire unit. That would certainly thwart many who did not know much about GPSr's. Or just not allow others access to any sensitive info saved on the unit... ...this way your wife can't find out your tracks you saved on the golfing green, when you originally told her you were volunteering at the orphanage all weekend long.... hhaahahahahhaaaaaaaaa.... I dunno... perhaps this may be useful... lates...

  4. on the navigation page you can change the scale by depressing ether one of the zoom buttons. You only have 3 options, i wish there was more. Perhaps they may address this minor glitch in a proceeding firmware update... lates...
  5. or.... or you can get it free using peer2peer sharing.... limewire, morpheus...etc... 7. Ye get a GPSr with mapping capability, go to a store and play with both Magellan and Garmin units before buying. Sad to hear WAAS signals do not come in CALGARY. In Toronto, it is really weird, some days yes some days no, regardless of location. But the WAAS signal is sure to get better over time. As more birds are put up into the sky. But then again GPS signals in general are also sure to get stronger as more people demand it ie: private citizens and consumers that is... lates...
  8. UMC makes good amunition, not to expensive and pretty reliable. lates...

  10. You fellas hear about that guy who was lost at sea (Pacific) for 4 months? They just found him a few days ago. The guy set off from Long Beach California, and a storm came and broke his mast and he ended up near Costa Rica!!! http://www.cnn.com/2002/WORLD/sailing/09/25/sailor.saved/index.html I was just thinking this guy is the perfect spokesperson for a gps company. It is wrong to laugh at other peoples misfortunes but...Man I think the guy deserves some sort of notoriety for his untimely misfortune. Come on Garmin or Magellan, pay this guy and put him in a commercial or two. or perhaps not.... maybe he can be a special guest on survivor... this guy would win ... I hope... lates....

  14. just an update, I have been grabbing ol' number 35 a lot more often these days in the GTA. I am not sure why? Coincidence, i guess... maybe the gps gods have read my complaints at this forum and have granted me with special gps abilities and powers.... or perhaps not... lates...

  19. yes anchor drag can be a useful feature for all units, that are bluechart compatible... lates...
  20. 200 MB of firmware is huge, that would and could only be for a gpsr of the future... can you imagine a unit with 200 MB of space? closest thing to that are the expandible meridian line. lates...
  21. yes.... same with me.... it seems that the WAAS signal comes in only when there is a completely unobstructed view of the southern sky.... it is never a sure thing it seems... i often just turn off the waas capability on my receiver for "normal" navigating around town to conserve battery power... thanks for the response though... lates...
  22. form factor simply replies to differences in "packaging of the unit" all hardware in terms of end user benefit is the same. lates...
