  1. I've never found a cache near a dumpster. If I ever did, there's a good chance it would "fall in"
  2. Hmmm... I would think that any camouflaged container found by a Muggle might raise some eyebrows. I guess that's why it's important to clearly mark your cache, identifying it as such, and providing the URL so those investigating such a container might be better able to determine its innocent nature. Yes, strange containers make muggles raise their eyes. Containers that look like pipe bombs make them call the police. How is this any more of a pipe bomb than the soda preforms? Used in the right area, they seem far better then a film canister (also blown up a few times!)
  3. I saw that and wondered if that was the genesis for the "Greetings from Germany" logs. Can't help but think now that perhaps given the original text encouraging arm chair logs if maybe the Germans have a good excuse for the misunderstandings associating with arm chair logging. My guess? "Greetings from Germany" is a longstanding joke dating back to probably 2005 or so, when it became quite obvious armchair logging was a fad over there. I'm going to guess the cache owner got the hand slap email from Groundspeak, and Groundspeak made a reference to "Greetings from Germany" in it. The cache owner then took the ball and ran with it, and put the "greetings from" wording in there in protest. Just my zany theory though, take it or leave it. I sometimes get "greetings from Germany" logs on my real caches. My first reaction is automatically that the log is bogus, but every time it happened it appeared that the log was legit and the person was actually vacationing in the US. I got a "greetings from Germany" DNF on my virtual. He forgot to bring the paper with him to the park. He was able to guess a few of the answers so I told him to log a find as he was honest about it. I know not all German cachers fake it, but I always check their other finds for that day when I see it on my caches.
  4. Yes, a great deal on Key Holders. Now what about the caches?
  5. It's been a very bad week for my virtuals. I own 5 non-physical caches and average at least one fake log a day. This week I've gotten over 200 fake logs and bogus emails! Someone from a well-known problem country got the answers and posted them on their local forum, but got one wrong! I got over 100 emails the first day! I posted that sample to show what a virtual would look like if logs weren't deleted, not that only one cache is a problem. I've always been vocal about my view on the state of virtuals - This "Limbo" is silly, either bring them back or be done with them! I've posted my thoughts on how to bring them back in a way that would work fine and never even got a reply in the forums. Imagine Virtuals as Earthcaches, only for historical or educational locations. That would weed out the poor locations without the "WOW Factor" problems. The local reviewer would only need to check that the description teaches something and there's a question that requires interacting with the location (counting, measuring, etc.) It's not a perfect solution but I think over 80% of the ones I've seen would pass with only minor changes. EDIT: I know they are all fake because of that one answer. the true answer is 149 or 151 depending on what sign you read, but every email had it listed as 173!
  6. Only some geocoins can be logged. I've never seen a "wooden geocoin" that has had a number.
  7. If your ADHD is so bad, how did you focus to reply? Here's the easy version for you:
  8. This is a direct copy-paste from a local virtual. I was looking up my log and saw this. NO LOGS HAVE BEEN EDITED OR REMOVED other then caching names deleted. I own 2 virtual's and I get 4-5 fake logs per week. This is only a small sample of the 4,500+ logs.
  9. Most of the time when I am purchasing containers I like to have 50-100. I am not talking about really needing 1000+ of these but if you can get 500 for the price of 10 with the right sourcing why not . A number of my caches are downtown Portland, OR. I try to hide them in really cool spots like old phone booths or near interesting landmarks in downtown Portland and enjoy immensely all the logs.... many from visiting out of town folks. There is a strong muggle population and I swear the homeless love to nab these things out of boredom. I would say that of my 109 geocaches (104 active) I am probably replacing 5-6 caches per month due just to muggles. If you placed them in better spots, you would only need to replace 1-2 a month. Either way, I'm glad I don't live in your area!
  10. For years the guidelines have been that the posted coordinates must be within "2 miles" just for that reason!
  11. I've hidden over 200 caches, but I still like the new setup. The old one always defaults to my home state, I live within an hour of four states! I always have to go back and check every time. I also like that attributes are built in so I don't need to hunt them down next. The D/T and size could use some work...
  12. Sorry, but 2005 is not Very Old, there's no reason to keep it alive. If it was from 2000-2001 that would be a different story.
  13. 5 seconds??? I had a few at my Back-woods event wave as they walked through, then kept walking to the next cache! They never even stopped at the GZ of the event! I wish I had thought of posting my kayaking event at the "Secret Landing" as last year I had a few start early and only crossed paths near the end. I almost wish we could make them stay for some minimum time to log the event. EDIT: I'm glad they changed the wording, last year my reviewer gave me a hard time because there was no logbook for her to sign (while sitting in a kayak in the middle of a river!)
  14. Even my old eTrex would sometimes show 7 feet, that's 2 meters!
  15. Souvenirs were yet another silly idea Groundspeak wasted our money on. I want to see them finish giving each country one before we go wild with everyone handing them out for finding every LPC in town, etc.
  16. Haven't seen anyone get a ticket, but I did witness 2 cachers crash their cars into one another (one stopped, the other slid into her) on an FTF chase. The cache published nearby during a dinner event, cell phone notifications started going off, folks started eyeballing each other, about 5 cachers broke for the door. It was a real Keystone Cops moment. LOL! Now I'm going to try to get one published during the next event!
  17. You haven't looked at ice cream then... The "Half-gallon" size is now 1.25 Quarts! Google maps is still an option, you just need to search for it.
  18. The only people who are dumb enough to pay more for google maps are the ones too dumb to understand GreaseMonkey!
  19. That's great! now in only the other "over 5 million" geocachers used it! Which is exactly what one of the Greasemonkey scripts loaded on my PC does ("GC little helper" I think). The script puts a email icon beside the CO's link and when you click on it it opens the profile email page (with the cache name (and code) inserted) bypassing the main profile page.
  20. Good lord. Where is the personal accountability? I had a guy threaten to sue me over one of my caches. Thanks to gmail and not having to delete old messages, I busted the dude in a lie and reported him to Groundspeak... I remember that, I had the option to go on that business trip. I tried to tell him he didn't want to waste his time... Anyway, there's hope for some of the P&G cachers. We had someone around here known for his simple (read: lame) puzzles and parking lot caches. He's archived most of them and has hidden some nice caches off in the woods. I think some people are afraid to go into the woods so they stick within sight of their car. Like someone said, back then the only people who owned a GPS were already hikers.
  21. I think it has around here. I had one cache in a state park that was about a mile walk down a gated dirt road. Nearly every log Bragged about how they drove around the gate and drove to the cache! Another cache was about .3mi down a paved bike path. A cacher drove to it and got a $300 ticket. He messaged me and tried to get me to pay it because he was only there for my cache! That said, I vote place the nice long multi! I'd go find it.
  22. This would be great for Virtual and Earthcaches!
