i didnt mean for it to sound so political. I have wanted to hold a CITO event in the upstate for some time, but have no idea of where to start in the planning process. I just figured with the stuff going on here in SC, that it might be a big positive if we got some attention. Many of the parks I have visited both as a geocacher and as a mere muggle have been in desprate need of a clean up!!!

im in the upstate. anyone else? BTW, how are we doing on getting the law they want vetoed? I've been sending letters and getting others to as well. What else can we do?

I almost exclusively cache alone. I carry a knife and a walking stick. Makes me feel safe anyhow.... I also let someone know where im going and always have a cell phone. im not too worried about some one "jerking me up off the street" as I am a, shall we say, well built woman, and unless caught unawares I'd be a tough one to "jerk up".... lets hope I never have to find out, eh?

I am in the upstate of SC and, though i havent found lots of caches, I really enjoy the sport. The SC legs. is discussing banning the sport in most areas of the state because of some misconceptions of a rep from beaufort...... none the less, I think a CITO day just for SC that draws plenty of media attention would be VERY helpful. What better way for geocachers to appear in the media than as the enviromentally friendly folks that we are? We need to get on this very very soon!!!! Anyone have any ideas? Anyone want to help? I am working on contacting several of my representivitives in Spartanburg county. But folks from SC I can not do this alone!! Please join me in writing, calling, and emailing our elected officals with the message that we Geocache and WE VOTE!! There are already laws on the books to punish those that vandalize, harm, or deface proptery with out adding one that eleminates a family sport. Would you ban the sport of football just because some USC players got into trouble? NO you'd punish them according to their crime and let the game go on. Ok Im on my soapbox here... but if we are going to beat this we have to show them just how many of us there are!!! I sent 46 postcards or so to state representivities last session about geocaching, and I made dozens of phone calls (none were returned...hum) Be sure to stress the rules we follow, AND the CITO that most of us do on the trail. Has anyone heard anything else about the anti geocaching law that is pending in SC? I send post cards to all senators in the sc state house and I also am in the process of sending out more mail ini regaurds to this. I also have the endorsement of a small historical society that is willing to assist in our efforts to prevent this law from getting passed next year.

Hey, For those in SC that are wanting to take their elected officals Geocaching, remember to CITO when you go. This will further show that we are HELPING the places we visit, not hurting them!!

I bought a Garmin Foretex the other day at Target for 139.00 It is a really good unit. It has a wrist watch type strap and a built in antenna.

I was wondering if there was a geocachers group in the Upstate of SC. (Spartanburg, G'ville Union, etc) If not is there any intrest in one? Just wondered!
