  2. Here is, The Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch. What it started out as, a citronella flare With the top and locking cap removed Shows the internal space for swaps The wick holder modified by glueing a 25mm poly tube to the bottom, the wick cut and glued in for effect, and the plug for the bottom. This will be the log book container. There is a rubber seal under the flange. The completed log book container back in place The locking cap back in place The cross on the cap, hand cut from aluminium plate, glued and riveted in place. With gold braid and jewels added How the log book container works And thats it, the completed Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch. Cheers Bundy
  3. Im currently building "The Holy Handgrenade of Antioch" out of a outdoor table citronella flare. No pics as yet.
  4. Wiki states the book is available from Amazon.co.uk http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matthew_Reilly
  5. I've got about 10 finds to my name, including about 8 FTF's, which I got without a GPS. Either before I bought one, or when it was in for warrenty work. Found with the aid of Google Earth. Its the prominant features in the area that give things away. Fortunately, the resolution of GE in our area is pretty good.
  6. You may wish to go to www.geocaching.com.au and head to the Queensland Caching forum, and look for a member named Cooroy Scouts. I dont know him/her/them personally, but they are fairly active in the Queensland scene, and Im sure they are scouts, given their username. Mrs Bundy is a Group Leader with over 20 years scouting experience, and recently scored FTF on a GCA cache at the 21st Australian Jamboree in Victoria.
  7. What you need to neutralize the acid is an alkaline. So get some Bicarbonate of Soda, and mix this up into a thickish paste, and dab it on with a cotton bud or similar.
  8. In the normal search page, on the right hand side, go to advanced search, then Search by waypoint name. GC10K0K is the waypoint name for the cache you have found.
  9. Go to www.geocaching.com.au There is a forum for each state. There was actually a Geocaching Australia cache at the jamboree, which my wife got FTF on. It was at the radio station. Have a look at the Announcements forum in the Australian site, and you will see the jamboree event. The guys who ran the radio ststion are cachers, and I guess are mainly from Vic, so they would be a good start for your quest.
  10. Well, If you want my opinion, GCXXXXX would be fine in the search box, if you are looking for a new cache with 7 characters, but no good if you are looking for one with only 6 characters or older, too many X's. So perhaps the search box should have numerous alternative search options, eg GCXXXXX, GCXXXX, GCXXX ect. Just my 2 cents worth. Also proves you cant please all the people all the time.
  11. If your worried about nasties, wear good leather gloves when delving hands into logs and holes. And a telescopic inspection mirror is useful as well. As for walking through the scrub, make some noise and watch where you are going. Wear decent long pants and long sleved shirts for protection against plants. Most snakes, lizards, and larger nasties are probably more scared of you, than you are of them. Given the chance, they will scamper away. If the absolute worst happens, and you are bitten by a spider or snake, try to catch or kill the culprit, and take it with you when you seek medical aid. Early identification of the offender will hasten administration of antivenom. Enjoy your trip. There is a significant (well by Australian standards) caching community in Brissie, who will no doubt offer assistance if needed when you are there.
  12. First off the name of this thread is a personal attack and should be revised. Now, in defense of you and Nomex the cache appears (google sat) to be placed lawfully on a public right of way. I have some knowledge of the security field given nearly 20 years of doing and teaching corporate security. If the cacher in question was touched in ANY way by that Security Officer he was fully within his rights to resist with as much force as needed to back him off. The SO's authority DOES NOT extend to a public sidewalk. If this is what happened and the cacher KNEW his rights, that plus a good lawyer equals PADAY. Nothing to do with the situation at hand, but in my opinion, this is what is pretty much stuffing a lot in the world these days, the desire to get rich quick by sueing anyone and everyone at the drop of a hat. And by default, this attitude now pervades beyond the borders of the United States to us here in Australia. I would save calling him an idiot unless you were witness to the action or have watched a tape of the encounter. I'd like to hear from that cacher's point of view too.
  13. Although this info would not be of much use to Americans, any Aussie 4wders would know of who I speak. At last years QA4WDC annual Corroboree at Canungra, on the Gold Coast, Australian Tread Lightly director, Jan Scudamore announced that the Australian branch of Tread Lightly was closing, due to lack of volunteers willing to assist with its management, or along those lines. All Tread Lightly Australias assets were being transferred to "Leave No Trace" which here in Australia, is based in Western Australia. And a worthy motto on this subject is, "Take nothing but photos, leave nothing but footprints"
  14. Making containers is entirely up to you, and certainly not limited by anyones imagination. Keep your eyes peeled as you travel around. Its amazing what can be adapted. Amongst others, I have used or modified to use, PVC pipe, mint tins, garden gnomes, film containers, money boxes and even a tyre valve stem. I have seen fake rocks, fake logs, fake inspection covers, ect.
  15. Theres only 3 reviewers in Australia, which is roughly the same geographical size as the mainland USA.
  16. What states/Cities,areas are you planning on going to. If you go to http://forum.geocaching.com.au/ there is an International Visitors thread, in addition to state based threads. Im sure you will get all the help you need there.
  17. Try a cache inside the valve stem of a wheel on a vehicle. The vehicle is on display on the side of a highway.
  18. Ram mounts make mounts for just about any device, to mount them to just about any surface. One of theirs is a handlebar grip, then you add the arm, and the appropriate cradle. The best part is you just buy any new mounts only, and move the arm and cradle to wherever you want. Thats the way I am going for transferring between 4wd windscreen mount, and motorbike handlebar mount.
  19. There is always this- probably been seen on here before. http://www.geogreeting.com/view.html?zdh...A1MJ+jdRLllV+jQ It may take a little bit of time to load.

  21. It does happen a fair bit here in Oz. Just use a neighbouring postcode, as you have done, and you should be right.
  22. Here is your answer. The only company that stocks TB's in Oz AFAIK http://www.sphere.net.au/site/index.php Cheers Bundy
