  1. It's the new California privacy law. Web sites can't always tell who is or is not from California. It's faster and easier to just act as though every user is covered. Unfortunately, the cookie acceptance implementation is breaking things, depending on your browser. Some threads were started in the Website forum, but apparently the lackeys are watching the release notes thread (privacy law compliance). If you are still having mysterious recent problems with geocaching.com, post there.
  2. I can see logs as normal on traditional caches, mystery caches, multis, and earthcaches, but not on events. The small map does not appear at all. I have cleared cache, cleared cookies, closed the browser, and tried different settings of the (California-inspired) cookies form. I posted the above in the Website forum. Since then, I have also discovered that I cannot log an event using the "new logging experience." I see the endless Javascript-not-loading spinning circle. I cannot download the GPX file from any cache page. All of the above applies to Seamonkey (Firefox family) on Windows 10.

  4. Did she use a different e-mail address than yours?
  5. Hallo, 4Glückskinder4. I have not used an Edge, so you would know better than I if there is an orientation in which it gets the best reception. Long ago, some GPS units worked best if held vertical, while others were more accurate when held parallel to the ground. Have you checked to make sure it is not trying to lock on to the nearest road?
  6. A cache owner cannot require a finder to register at another web site, provide personal information to another web site, or use a specific app. It is in the guidelines.

    BUG: 404

Just now I started getting 404 errors on the list of caches I have found (from my profile). I also get a 404 error when trying to create or view pocket queries.
  8. Regarding the “stuck” container, if it has a screw-top lid, you can try holding it under your armpit to thaw ice or snow.
  9. Greetings from the sunny south. Maybe. Depends where you are in Ontario. Dress warmly. You know that already. If you might be out for a long stretch, chemical toe warmers are a great invention. Take water. Keep your camera/GPS/phone warmer by carrying in a pocket, preferably an inside pocket, until needed. Electronics can get sluggish in cold temperatures. If you use AA batteries, rechargeables are better in the cold than alkaline, and lithium is best in severe cold. For a better chance of success, see whether a cache has been found recently, or ever been found in winter. Sometimes you can even follow the tracks in the snow. Some cachers do like to put down false tracks so as not to call attention to the cache location. Winter is a great time to go after those island caches! Look for a winter-friendly attribute. Use “breadcrumbs” on your phone or GPS. I personally think I am doing well if I find 50% of the caches I look for in winter. Snow cover makes things more difficult. Even if the hide was intended to be possible to find in winter, it may have fallen. Have fun!
  10. Size probably listed as "other." Found It = Didn't Find It
  11. I recently removed some favorite points because the now-archived caches were listed as Premium. I do not give Favorite points to PMO caches. Perhaps they changed to PMO after I found them.
  12. It seems to be a browser parity issue. Seamonkey is a variant of Firefox. I can see lists and delete list entries on the same computer if I am using Chrome.
  13. This evening was the first time I was forced to use the "new" lists. They will not load. I get a popup telling me to try reloading the page. I tried going to the Favorites button, and it is even worse. Popup says, "We had trouble loading your Favorites. Please try again by refreshing the page." and when I hit OK (the only option), it pops up again immediately. Seamonkey on Windows 10, Javascript enabled, no proxies or ad-blockers, no plugins.
  14. I can't read the challenge at Project GC (no account there), and don't know whether there is clarification. As stated in the opening post, however, there is ambiguity about what you mean. Find at least 77 caches in one day. Do this for a week in a row. Find at least 77 caches in one day. Do this repeatedly, at least once on a Sunday, once on a Monday, etc. Have a total of at least 77 finds for every day of the week, the way your profile says that you find most caches on a Friday. The first two interpretations might be problematic, especially the first.
  15. I recently found Violent Cremation, a puzzle cache in Minnesota.
  16. Learning about watershed management districts! The only unfound within 50 miles is a kettle lake. I passed that one by.
  17. It is on Twitter now, so HQ has noticed.
  18. When I try to log on to geocaching.com, I get a 500 error. I had logged off and tried to log in again because I could not pull up cache pages. Waiting and waiting for the server to respond. Clearing cache did not help.
  19. I agree on the polypropylene. It gets brittle at 18 degrees F. Think it ever gets that cold in Minnesota? PET is a good moisture barrier, and can handle a wide temperature range, although not quite as wide as HDPE. PET is good to 76 below. I do not “really insist on using plastic.” The OP asked about preforms. I answered. Ammo cans are great containers, but you certainly can’t hide one everywhere you can hide a preform. Bison tubes don’t necessarily outlast plastic. I have seen plenty of sodden logs and some cross-threaded containers.
  20. These PET screw-top tubes are not gasketed, but the caps have a built-in inner ring that serves a similar purpose. They would be less than $1 each with shipping if you buy more than a pack of ten. I have some, but have not yet deployed them.
  21. Go to the listing for that travel bug. If it the one I am thinking, it is “in the hands of” another cacher. One of your logging options is to “grab it” from that cacher. (Under “make a log entry,” not Actions.) Do it. It should show up as “in the hands of the owner” then.
  22. On a smaller scale, in June of even-numbered years, there's a road rally in Waukesha, Wisconsin. It combines elements of a scavenger hunt (bring back an American flag and a coat hanger, do a piece of yarn art) along with the search for new caches. It's a team competition. The latest was in 2018.
  23. Hi, it looks to me like you should have over 100 points, and four souvenirs. I can't help you with the app question. For the web site, you have to allow JavaScript. But ... you are not the only one having this problem. Staff is aware. See this thread in the Website forum: Cache Carnival - Scoring Points - 0 favorite points.
  24. You can get free maps from OpenStreetMap. There's a bit of a learning curve in building the maps you want, so start poking around early.
