The idea is that its something to do while drivng on a boring highway. The virtual multicache would be as follows: Mathematical Mileposts on the Move, GSP N40 41.xxx' W74 16.xxx' Located on the Garden State Parkway, Southbound. Should be done with a partner. Firstly, do not stop on the Parkway, there is no need to stop. This is a 5 part multi virtual cache. The coordinates take you to the starting milepost marker. The remaining coordinate sets are listed below. Program them into your GPS before you start. As you arrive at the given coordinates, have your partner record the milepost numbers. As you reach the subsequent coordinates, record the mileposts also. At the end, you need to add up the milepost numbers and email me the result to log a find. The answer must be to the tenth of a mile. This cache was a lot more dangerous to set up then to execute. The four additional coordinates are: N40 38.xxx' W74 17.xxx' N40 36.xxx' W74 18.xxx' N40 34.xxx' W74 19.xxx' N40 33.xxx' W74 19.xxx'

Containers for Melvin's were staked down and tied when I left them. I haven't checked them in a while, but they have survived nearly a year before so I suspect they will be all right.

BrianSnat is correct, the sound of a rattler in person is much different than that portrayed on television. It seems to be more of a quiet buzzing sound. You can hear it but also could easily overlook the sound. I encountered only one Timber Rattler in all my years in the woods, that was in the Deleware Water Gap National Recreation Area. Yet in my Scout Camp days, counselors would pursue them daily and come back with several snakes each day in DWG NRA. I have heard tales that a large nesting mound of rattlers exists somewhere near Whitesbog, NJ., but have never been able to get real information on the exact location. I would like to visit it keeping my distance.

Incidentally, it appears that Muskrats, Mosquitos & Muck is still in place and has not been visited since last May. Its a good warmup for Melvin's Multiple Madness. I did a visual check of Muskrats from a satellite photo, did not actually visit it. Hey, even I don't like visiting these caches for maintenance. Ticks are out in force so bring your repellent.

I run my Street Pilot(helix antenna)and 12XL (patch antenna) next to one another near the center heat vent on the dashboard face, not on top. The 12XL mounted upright, signals "Poor GPS Coverage" about 10 times for each warning from the Street Pilot. Yet with my limited experience with the Street Piot in the woods, the 12XL seems to perform better.

With regard to a possible Cheesequake get together, please note, Booth Field cache that was archived is back as Booth Field 2. There a few benchmarks in the area, KV6996 and KV6997 actually within the confines of the park. KV7138 just outside and near a strip mall good for resupply of food for campers. A new cache Harbor Park 'n Ride has been placed. For those traveling from the south, two new ones have been placed at the PNC Arts Center. I will try to place a few more in the Park and check on those already there

I just stumbled upon this post. I archived Booth Field cache, but I will replace it with another nearby. Since it looks like there might be an event, I will try to set a few more caches to make things interesting.

I ride a '95 Kawasaki Vulcan 750, equipped with an eMap. I particularly like virtual caches and benchmark hunting with the bike.

Does anyone go through the effort of returning to a cache they set several times during the day, or several days in order to get a better average on the coordinates? So far I have just done a GPS average for the time it takes me to prepare and hide the cache, and most everyone reports my coordinates are good. I really hate to hunt for a cache where the coordinates are not precise ( or is it accurate?) so I take care to get them as best I can when I set a cache.

Its always nice to build your own website, but yours did not load well for me. I agree with others that, respectfully, why reinvent the wheel? this website and discussion board serves us just fine.

Did I miss a post rescheduling this event? Is the location same as the last one? What is the date? Maybe we should wear nametags to put a name to a face.

I am not so sure about the electronic compass technology used in the GPS units, but I have found that a stand alone electronic compass, the Brunton model in particular, works horribly on the motorcycle. It works as bad as magnetic compasses on the bike, which are next to useless.

Incidentally, the best place to launch that canoe is at the foot of Steamboat Landing Road a/k/a Dock Road. Although the dirt portion of the road is posted No Trespassing, its a public road, and in my opinion, unenforcable. Anyway, many people go down to the creek there to fish and crab in warm weather and I don't think anyone cares. The No Tres sign is to ward off dumpers. Be advised that if you park at the foot of the road at the creek, the tide may come up to your tires when high, best to move your car back to the wooded portion

Driving home today I was comtemplating HartClimbs question about my caches being snow friendly. Looking at the woods and the snow remaining, I decided it would probably not be much fun doing them with this much snow. I originally answered him that snow does not present any particular problems, I have rethunk my position. My suggestion is to wait until snow goes away. There are enough caches in Cheesequake to make a nice event day. Most wooded areas that are flat are pretty much flooded. The canoe idea for doing Melvin's is an excellent idea, but not very safe judging by the water temps right now. If I ever get the kayak I want, that swamp is going to be peppered with caches

I was there. I asked one guy if he was a geocacher, he looked at me like I had three heads. Lots of snow coming down hard, but the middle of the state had none on the way to home on the coast. Got a chance to visit my sister in Bordentown anyway.
