  1. The cache pages have been steadily becoming more visually difficult for folks like me who are in their 50s. Even with the page increased in size I find it visually difficult to read it. I think this site needs to consider the fact that there is a wide range of ages who geocache and read the pages. Give us older folks a break please and make the pages visually friendly to us again. We need contrast and color. Not shades of grey and similar shades of bland colors that blend in together.
  2. I have only one color for the stars but its blue. Have pity on older eyes. Blue is the first color that old eyes have trouble seeing. Bring back the red.
  3. I also dislike the new icons. Please bring back the blue. I also dislike having two colors for the stars for difficulty and terrain. Wish y'all would stop messing with things that are not "broken".
  4. The Raven is the best hider of caches I have come across. The Raven's Labyrinth is easily the best cache I have done. I wish I lived closer to his caches.
  5. My pq page shows that I have zero pq's ready to download even though it shows I have several pqs. I never have gotten a pq email in all the years I have used pocket queries. Since I use the queries to search for caches rather than downloading caches it was not a concern until now.
  6. I managed to download caches without a pocket query. One cache at a time. Not so bad since I look at the cache pages anyway before we go out. I would like to know how to get the pocket query thing to download properly. Thank you all for your help. I never would have been able to do this without your assistance. Certainly garmin was of no help lol. What is the story behind garmin and this site anyway? I tried searching the forums but was not able to find anything.
  7. Sigh Ok I found the "pocket queries ready for download" button, but it shows 0 queries are ready for downloading. Despite having 3 queries available. How do I get them ready for downloading?
  8. Any pocket query I have done in all these years has been less than 500 caches. They were never emailed to me. In this case, I just did a few caches as a pocket query. I have found the button to download it now. Thank you for your help. I feel like I just became my parents. Old people and technology lol.
  9. Ooops got hung up on step 2. I have no idea how to download the pq. I ran it. Never got anything sent to my email. I am lost on how to do that part.
  10. Just my take on this topic ... One half of our team is a minority - Navajo Indian. He looks quite ethnic too. I do not recall any time when Mike or I felt it would not be good to go caching based on his race. We have had many law enforcement encounters, including one with 10 border patrol agents. We were not harrassed. They have all turned out pleasantly. Not once did we feel it was due to either his race or mine. We have been welcomed and treated well at every event cache we have gone to. Mike grew up doing outdoors activities. So did I. We enjoy caching because it is an outdoor activity we can enjoy doing together. That goes beyond any racial barrier.
  11. Thank you. I have windows 7 and the ability to create PQs. I will give it a shot this weekend and see if it works.
  12. Question: Can anyone out there can give me step by step to how to properly download caches from this site onto my etrex 20 and how to find them on that device once it is downloaded? Background to the question: My old dinosaur of an etrex that has lasted us all our years of geocaching is starting to have issues. We decided to go to paperless caching and a new gps. Magellan was a disaster. The explorist 310 has, according to the person at magellan, a "defect" that he wants me to copy and send to their software people to figure out. The device is getting returned for a full refund. We got the garmin etrex 20 and decided to download caches. It only downloaded one cache that I can find on the etrex geocaching screen, yet if I try to download other caches again, it tells me they are already downloaded. The unhelpful help desk at garmin says it is the fault of the geocaching.com site. Uh huh. That somehow there is something on some cache pages that prevent it from loading. Uh huh. I told them they would lose a lot of customers based on this. At least we can manually enter in cache coordinates and get to our destination with the etrex 20 but I would love to know if anyone out there can give me step by step to how to properly download caches from this site onto my etrex 20 and how to find them on that device once it is downloaded.
  13. I was shocked to see this on the news tonight. We have found many of his caches and have met some of those who looked for him. The desert is a dangerous place. Im pretty much at a loss for words. Our thoughts and prayers for the family and friends of gncaz. He will be greatly missed.
  14. I dont use facebook and my account wont remain logged in either. Its annoying but livable. Unlike the map problems Im having today.
  15. Im a charter member but Waymarking does not recognize me as a "premium member" and has shut me out of premium member features. Please fix.
  16. I tried to get into a feature on Waymarking and it says it is not available to me because it claims I am not a premium Groundspeak member. I am a charter member however. How can this be fixed so I can access these features?
  17. No one has any suggestions on what to do or why this is happening?
  18. I dont know if others have reported this. Ive been looking up cache listings for a few days now and this bug is definitely getting to me lol. From the geocaching map, I pull up multiple cache pages. Almost every time, when I look at one page, then close it, whether Ive looked at google maps from there, whether or not Ive bookmarked it, the very next cache listing is frozen. There is no scroll bar. I cannot scroll using my mouse. And one large blank white square is visible in the upper right. Sometimes it comes up black except for the large white square. That isnt too often though. I have to hit refresh in order to view the page. Ive tried going forwards through my pulled up pages and backwards. It still happens. I have windows 7 and use google chrome as my browser.
  19. Thank you. Especially for the bookmark list upgrade. (Could we please be able to have more than 40 bookmarks?)
  20. Im looking over caches for a big caching weekend we have planned. I was able to get all cache logs showing until a short time ago. Now I cant. Im using Chrome. (Im sure I dont have to mention it, but I want to be able to tell if there are multiple DNFs and its a waste of time to look, or if it has been found recently, and what the recent logs say given that I have physical limitations. I rely on cache logs to be able to tell if I can look for the cache.) Also the feedback tab is a nuisance. It requires even more scrolling since it covers up information like text and coordinates. Can we make it invisible? Or just remove it. I miss having the date of a log on the left side. Now to see when the most recent find was, I have to scroll left to see if its a find or dnf, then scroll way over to the right to see when that was. Its not convenient or comfortable. My wrist gets quite sore doing this even though Im used to working on the computer for hours a day.
  21. The smaller avatars were something I could live with. Altho the generic one ... why bother? One thing I miss is the numbers count. We are not numbers fiends, but we do like to see our cache count increase with each log. It gives us a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment. (Ok so I might just need a life then lol.)
  22. So if I went and created an "action" challenge, telling you to go to some location and the task being to educate yourself from the plaques and information signs present there, would you be happy? Why not? No, that is not the same. Virtual cache pages can hold more information than is present at the site, or point out what is special that I should not miss. Personal anecdotes are also present on cache pages. These are the problems I see for me. I cannot create a page which tells you more of the history than what is there to read, from what I can tell of the challenge creation page. I also lose any control over the page after it is created so I cannot add more information as I get it (which happened at one cache I owned when someone gave me first hand experience of the history there). It can be randomly archived if enough folks do not care for it. I will not have the feedback of reading cache logs later to see what folks thought of it. All of this detracts from the virtual experience. Im not trying to be negative. I hope folks enjoy it. Im just disappointed by what has been offered as virtuals.
  23. I cannot speak for others, but for myself, I was eagerly awaiting the return of the virtuals. What we got is not virtuals. I couldnt wait to go to a spot and learn something. Instead we go to a spot and perform a task. The old virtuals were something you owned and had some control over. The new challenges are not something you have any control over. They lack quality because of the anarchy inherent in this system. They seem cheapened. Even with a smiley, the challenge is lackluster. I would rather have the old virtuals without a smiley than these challenges. Waymarking is cataloging but at least you can do something interesting, something you can learn from, instead of this poor substitute for virtuals called "challenges". I dont plan on doing any of these challenges after looking it over yesterday.
  24. With the caveat that some of these might be out of date, here is what I currently have to restore some semblance of sanity to gc.com: geocaching.com##div#Print geocaching.com#div(class^=CacheDetailPageAds clear) geocaching.com#div(class^=FavoritesStatusWidget) geocaching.com#div(class^=MasterPageAds) geocaching.com#div(class^=mxStats) geocaching.com#div(id^=feedback-tab) geocaching.com#fieldset(class^=DisclaimerWidget) geocaching.com#fieldset(class^=NotesWidget) geocaching.com#footer geocaching.com#p(class=SocialMediaIcons NoBottomSpacing right) geocaching.com#p(class^=logOwnerAvatar) geocaching.com#p(class^=logOwnerBadge) geocaching.com#p(class^=logOwnerStats) There are 13 now after I grabbed the print-hiding rule upthread EDIT: Three more here ... geocaching.com#a(id^=ctl00_hlNavResources) geocaching.com#a(id^=ctl00_hlNavShop) geocaching.com#a(id^=ctl00_hlNavVideos) How do you use this?
  25. Folks have said what I wanted to say about the "about a month ago" instead of the date. Thank you for bringing them back soon. Folks have said what I wanted to say about the avatars except that in addition, it is difficult for those prone to wrist/ computer disorders like carpal tunnel to now have even more space to scroll through in order to read logs. Please allow us the option at least to disable avatars in logs. I am quite disappointed in the new replacement for virtual caches. I had a location Ive been trying to turn into a cache, but it was not working out. Since then Ive been waiting for about 3 months to turn it into a virtual cache when I heard they were coming back. With this new layout, it will not work as a virtual cache. My location is a cool unusual memorial that has no place to hide a cache, and no place to hide one remotely nearby either. It is a place that cannot have folks taking goofy photos, which would defeat the significance and solemnity of the memorial and its location. Another issue I have with the new challenges is the lack of control I have over my idea once it is accepted. If I post a challenge, I want it to remain mine. We were told virtuals are coming back. These are not virtuals. Im sure some folks will enjoy them. I will stick with geocaching and Waymarking. At least there I can enjoy posting cool memorials for the one or two people who waymark in my area.
