  1. Take it as an opportunity to hold/host a geocaching 101 event...just a thought. Sometimes people don't know what they don't know until someone takes the opportunity to help...
  2. Seems like a reasonable purpose for the listings... . . . ..to the OP...since you went to the trouble of using a sock...why not message the local reviewers with your sock and ask them...
  3. So ask one of those reviewers. Or Groundspeak. B. I do not particularly want to bring this to the mother ships attention. I figured the collective hive here would have encountered this topic before and would be easily able to explain the duality. Thanks for focusing on the question. So, you want something done about it...but don't want Groundspeak involved...yep, seems like you thought this plan out to the end... Oh...by the way...you will notice I used my actual account...
  4. I don't view any of it as defensive...people are just stating their experiences.
  5. +1 http://coord.info/GC14DMM - I have one that does just as described...a link and description about the "old" cache...
  6. Don't be too quick to use litterbug statement too fast... I have had a couple caches of my own show up after a placed a replacement cache (and that was only after I spent time searching and DNF'ed my own cache). There is still one or two that I look for each time I visit a park just in case it shows up again. I make a conscious effort to make sure my caches are picked up if I archive them. Yes...archive and forget does happen...I am not naive to say it doesn't...but don't blame all geocachers for it...many are good about cleanup...
  7. I have two on private land...first name is given on cache page...and there is a sign at posted parking coordinates that has full name of land owner.
  8. The CO clearly knew you had to cross many acres of private land. This land is 100's of acres long i think. There excuse was "Everyone else is doing so it ok". But i did find out you can get it by taking a mile walk along Lake Michigan....Nah... So...does it mean it is ok??? Sounds to me like it is and people are just using the "easy" way (which, I would address on the cache page if it were mine)...do you have actual proof that the CO didn't intend for people to actually take the mile long walk...because I would take that walk...
  9. Neither...I hate Acronyms...I try to spell it out...
  10. The ironic part...UPS pays USPS to ship out their boxes to rural address frequently...
  11. 1. Permanent caches 2. Available to anyone who has access to the area -- this area is for Groups. If you put together a 4x4 party and pay the fee for day use of the area, you can find all of them that you like. You can probably hide some, too, if you don't mind caches which will not be found terribly often. I have no problems at all with the caches being in that sort of area...plenty of caches are in parks that require a entrance fee...my only observation...is that so far, that has not been mentioned on the cache pages (again, that ones I have found and I certainly may not have found the correct ones yet) that this area is not covered by the fee people are paying to get into the park...specifically, that the area in which the caches are in have an additional fee...
  12. Yep...and looking at a number of random cache pages...I still don't see the limits/boundaries talked about here being addressed...
  13. You did notice the ;-) ? More humour. Emoticons don't always make humor as intended... Sarcasm is like dynamite...used properly, it is a powerful tool...used improperly, it can blow up in your face...
  14. Ok...so, you may have intended this thread to be a joke...fine...but those two statements there certainly stand out as something other than a joke...
  15. +1 Edit: Just to add...I don't even look at swag much any more...I typically open the container, grab the logbook, hand container off to someone else, sign logbook...simply put...I just am not into the swag much... Travel Bugs...I will grab those every once in a while...but it is not as often as I did when I first started caching.
  16. Is that why sometimes mystery caches have so few solvers for a long time, then an explosion of solvers? Because people are passing around the solutions? That doesn't seem Minnesota Nice to me. Does that happen...sure...I am not naive and I am not going to say that it doesn't. But, there are also times when groups of friends get together and work on it together. It happens plenty in this area...there is a group of us that work together often on puzzles...heck...there are several groups of several people...the tendency is to try and find the cache together...but more often the group cannot find the time and there will be a run of cachers finding the cache...it does not always mean the solution was just passed around.
  17. +1 I use the Truth...about 75% of the time people say "Oh, I heard about that...I may need to give it a try some time." Based on a gut feeling...I will either invite them to join me on the hunt or just have a brief/general conversation about geocaching. The 25% of the time...they give me a blank stare and either stick around to hear what I have to say about it...or shrug their shoulders and walk off thinking I am some sort of loon...
  18. Just want to say...I rarely swap items anymore. I enjoy caching for the hunt and the places I learn about around me...and the fun of being outdoors...
  19. Well...I have done it...usually after I have emailed the Cache Owner a number of times and don't get a response. Ok...by done it, I mean asking for help/hints from someone that found the cache. By usually...it depends on any recent (and how recent) the activity of the owner...and your own personal feelings. The cache I asked for help on...I was working on it for a month or better and sent out 5 emails with no response...so, I asked one of the recent finders... As for offering help...hmm...my recent experiences have been about getting a group together to work on a cache/puzzle together...but...hmm...offering info after being asked...I have...but I try not to just give away the cache hide (talking traditional...or themed caches)...more often then not, I offer to meet people on site and use "Warm/Cold" for help... On Puzzles...I typically ask what they have asked of the Cache Owner and see if there is something I can help clarify...again, trying hard not to give anything away...but...again...I look at recent activity of the owner... Edit: So...I guess overall...it all depends on the Cache Owner...as many have stated above. Being "new"...go with your instinct...
  20. Just because you don't doesn't mean others don't. Well...I don't keep track if any that I have...so, I guess it doesn't matter to me...
  21. The best way to be stealthy is to act as if you know what you are doing...be confident!!!
  22. Some cache owners feel it reflects poorly on them and/or their caches. I wouldn't take it personal, you will find that it does indeed happen from time to time. As you continue to cache, you will find out which cache owners don't like DNF's on their caches and you just make mental notes not to post those.
  23. I'm glad you are seeing the humor in the situation. Now if it happened a second time.... then I'd be ticked off! A third time...I was start epoxy coating cardboard boxes and hiding them in the woods waiting for them to be replaced by ammo boxes!!!
  24. I spent $15 for Off-Topic and $15 for the PQ's...the API is a recent addition that is a freebie for being a Premium Member!!!
