  1. True, but instead of 'active' they can go by 'published', which in your theory may have happened. I think now that they are more mainstream and better technology/software can keep pace, there will be a day they will have 2 million 'active' caches. Semantics, but something I think should be recognized to some degree. If Leap Day can be recognized with a souvenier, anything can. It isn't semantics... 2 Millionth Cache Hidden and 2 Millionth Active Cache are two very different things...
  2. Not to nit-pick a nit-pick... ...but...the original intent of Geocaching (as we now call it) was to test the accuracy of the GPS System...from there...the doors flew open...the hobby has evolved and changed through the years...and the only safe bet is that it will continue to evolve and change over the years...some changes good...some changes bad...but even the bad ones are learned from... Where do I stand on Puzzles... -It all depends on the puzzle and the mood I am in. I enjoy the occasional puzzle...gets the brain moving (instead of just the feet)
  3. In regards to the "Tree Law"... Some of the weirdest laws...start with the best of intentions...
  4. Caches go missing...it just happens. Heck...the one's we think "will last forever" go missing in the first hour...and other we think "Let's place one and see" last for years...it happens... I see nothing in the log in question that would leave me to believe he didn't honestly return the cache...I would have let the log stay and chalk it up to being lost to the order of the muggle...(two legged, four legged, or otherwise)...
  5. Sadly...I think you are out of luck...keep your fingers crossed...maybe the bug will show up some day. I have had a couple spring to life recently after being gone for almost 3-4 years!!!
  6. Approval or NonApproval isn't the Question... The "Question" would be...Would this cache get published? Once...long ago in an internet history long past (ok...anything over 5 years is long in internet terms)...they were once called approvers...but they are now called reviewers... Keep in mind...many Reviewers Publish many caches they do not personally approve of because they fit the Guidelines...and deny caches because they do not fit the guidelines of what may/may not be listed on Geocaching.com. Sorry...just a pet peeve...nothing is approved...but things are reviewed (as approved would imply some sort of endorsement)...
  7. Maybe if people would stop creating new threads about no pictures and let Groundspeak do some work (instead of having to merge topic after topic about the same topic... ) this could be resolved soon.... . . . Calm down and go caching...or get to work...or sleep in...sheesh...
  8. Two Accounts??? You ID you created for Geocaching.com should work for the other...it is a Groundspeak thing...I know mine works on Geocaching, Waymarking, and Wherigo...no need for seperate accounts on each...
  9. I have been stung by wasps at a LPC...lift and swarm!!! I ran but a couple got me before I was able to get in the vehicle and close the door. Came back later (in the winter) and got my revenge...
  10. After more input, I think the answer is that there aren't any universal expectations and that either way is acceptable. Yep...but...for those of us that prefer Geocaching over Letterboxing...please give that extra waypoint idea consideration (mentioned by LOne R)...I know I will in future hides should I get more into the process of letterboxing...
  11. What I've done is provided directions but also included an extra waypoint to the final for those geocachers who don't like the step-by-step method. Thanks for hiding a hand-carved stamp. All of my letterbox hides are hand-carved as well (and listed here and on AQ). I've never attached a stamp to the container. When hiding a letterbox where I encourage cachers to also trade trinkets, I put the letterbox portion into a small lock n lock (if I'm planting an ammo box and there's enough room), or an altoids tin. I label the little containers well plus I also write on the back of the stamp with a fine sharpie "DO NOT TRADE. LEAVE IN THE BOX." The Extra Waypoint is a nice touch... As opinions go...it all just depends on what you focus on...I like the technology part and appreciate those that include the coords...otherwise (and this is only my opinion) it is a letterbox disguised as a geocache...not really a hybrid...just a way to get around listing guidelines... Don't get me wrong, I totally respect the process of letterboxing...it just isn't for me. I have my own stamp for when I find a letterbox while out caching and have created my own account for letterboxing...but it just isn't my thing...
  12. I list them the same way you do...at the posted coordinates.
  13. +1 I have three... -Two are for the masses...one really easy one... -One...for the really dedicated... ...that being said, I do understand what you are saying...being around when the ALR thing got way out of hand...I see a familiar pattern...and, honestly, it scares me a bit at what could happen...
  14. Huh??? Your profile shows about 70+ active caches! Huh??? Your profile shows about 70+ active caches! I smell sarcasm in his quote. The embedded quotes got away from you guys...take a look again at who posted...
  15. This site is just one of many listing services...each with their own appeal and own drawbacks. Geocaching is not Groundspeak's game...but Geocaching.com is their listing service.
  16. GSAK is a great took with great power...but with that power comes great responsibility!!! (yep...someone had to say it) I don't use all the tools...the but the one's I do use I greatly appreciate.
  17. It seems to me that finders should remember that without the hiders they wouldn't have any caches at all. They should be grateful that we take time out of our busy day to hide them. That is exactly right it is a symbiotic relationship so both sides should stop whining and enjoy what they have. The whole enterprise is symbiotic. No land, no hiders. No hiders, no finders. No finders, no hiders. No hiders, no need for land owners. Circle of Caching Break the chain anywhere along the way and things go south quickly. Frankly, I don't care anymore. I archived my hides and don't plan on putting anymore out. I don't really like having to go dump water out of my ammo cans because someone disrespected the hide by opening them in pouring rain without making any attempt to cover the cache. I don't really like getting # of ## logs. I don't really like getting TFTC or . or blank logs. I don't really like putting quality swag in my caches only to have them emptied within the first few finds. BUT, I have options of which I availed myself. So I really don't care what you or anyone else chooses to put in their logs. I will continue to write decent logs to show my appreciation. Maybe there are enough of us left to make it worthwhile for others to keep caches out. If not, then we'll probably be stuck with nothing but micros and nanos. If so, then I guess it will weed out the folks that don't enjoy mediocre hides and perhaps the forums will become silent. Either way, I guess the game will evolve the way it evolves. If we don't like it, we have the option of not playing. And there is nothing wrong with that either. There are plenty of other games to play. Great...just great...now I got the Lion King Theme running through my head...
  18. ROFL sounds like the person who answered that email doesn't have a clue what a locationless cache is, and tried to apply some other answer that doesn't even make sense. I assume that person is new. Sounds like they're talking about travelling caches, they're definitely not talking about locationless caches. I would agree...they are talking about Traveling Caches...
  19. What is Fair isn't always equal...What is equal isn't always fair. To post my own opinion to the question asked...nope, I do not feel it is too many questions to be asked by a reviewer.
