Which is the reason why the sites a script runs on are listed when it's installed. If you install a Geocaching script, and see a-bank.com listed in the sites it runs on, then do not install it, and go and shame the author/promoter on the forums. Its all about trusting the source of your script. -
Cache trashing - SW London
Edgemaster replied to Primitive Person's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
I've retrieved the cache that was initially found by the trashers (originally 8ft up a tree) on behalf of the owner. The trasher had moved it some 20m away and rehid it (leaving a map to the new location in the original hiding place). They renamed the cache and took it upon themselves to "refurbish" it... -
/me waves, 18yo from London, caching since 16, parents didn't get me into it, a friend (on the other side of the country) a year older than me did. Only 316 finds for 3 or so years isn't too good on the numbers side though....

Edgemaster replied to Knipe_raider's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
first post's gone walkabout again -
We've had many central events, it certainly is time for one less central, and for those who cant make weekday evenings.

Maybe not completely helpful, but the OpenStreetMap-based OpenCycleMap - http://opencyclemap.org/ It now claims to be more accurate than the Sustrans maps themselves, since only what exists (is signed) on the ground is mapped. There's no simple way to send the routes to a GPS yet, but there are cycle-route focused maps for Garmin GPSes (not sure how up-to-date they are though..)

Heh, tube stations are rare things in this corner of london!

+1 here, from Sutton area, would prefer to avoid exam season as far as possible, but most weekends should be fine for me.

What's the British pronunciation?
Edgemaster replied to Neath Worthies's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
I think of it as sigh-toe. Is that pronunciation equivalent to cite-oh? I think that's where I derive it from. -
Latest OpenStreeMap UK Garmin Mapsets...
Edgemaster replied to talkytoaster's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
I think it's easier to load them into mapsource now, I'll look into how others have done it. I'll also add here that routable garmin OSM maps are now available from here - http://garmin.na1400.info/routable.html -
Ooh, ooh, *checks calendar*, maybe can do.

I last saw this issue about a year back, I queried it with someone in the know at the time, and it appeared it was a known issue with unknown cause. Tis very weird, since the extra text seems to have some aspect of randomness regarding what it gives you. I think we (techies in geochat) speculated over causes, but came to no firm conclusions. Other than to blame Microsoft of course

Nice cache to choose, too. Pity about the suggestion you don't need map reading skills...

There's another in Kingston, but it is visible across the wire fence from the garage space at the back.

Yes, I should remove mine, it was just a quick fix whilst LordElph got his sorted out.

It's not actually DD.MM.SSS, but DD MM.MMM, DD MM SS.SSS is another format, fairly subtly different, as well as DD.DDDDD.

Code looks messy, distributes libraries with the codebase, thus won't compile on linux out of the box - not going to put much effort into it. Although OpenStreetMap vector and Garmin .img support looks interesting...

Until very recently (and once I get my Netbook built properly I will again), I was running GSAK and Memory Map under Wine on Ubuntu 8.04. Runs very nicely too. I was also using Wine for running Garmin Mapsource. Funny enough, I think these were among the very few applications which I couldn't find Linux alternatives for. I use Memory Map under wine with no problems (other than some odd display glitches) - I don't expect there to be any alternative for it under *nix. I'm not really paperless yet, never liked GSAK so never bothered with it under nix, there's some alternatives around, but none of those I've tried have been particularly simple or straightforward to use. QLandkarte GT is supposedly a good alternative to Mapsource. http://www.qlandkarte.org/ (and in Ubuntu repository) I also have got quite fond of Viking (http://viking.sf.net, also in Ubuntu software repository), nice simple desktop map interface.

Multiple maps on 60CSx - Topo and OpenStreetMap
Edgemaster replied to PSHAX's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
I think these are a set of instructions that may help: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OSM_Map...upp.img_file.3F It gives several alternatives. -
That's exactly what Alan (and me, and others) are asking for! All the recent examples I have read of have been fully justified by the existing Groundspeak guidelines.

Hadn't thought of it that way around. Anyway, gmail's spam filter is good enough

I also wondered about this, one argument I heard is that MM is a global product, so should be bounced about in the main place. Tbh, the major use for MM is for the OS mapping, so I believed the thread would belong here also.

I don't see why they would be. Do you have anything installed in your firefox that may prevent referrer addresses from being sent to third parties?

Thanks for the headsup, now fixed, Google had changed something quite subtly in their API's internals that I was using, a quick 5 character change fixed it. No need to update, the change was on the server that serves the map.
