  1. Really fun vlog, savannahandstuff. Your excitement is incredibly contagious and reminded me of how awesome it felt to find our first few caches. Keep having fun out there. Thanks so much for sharing your vlog here!
  2. Hey there! In an increased effort to include the community as a more active voice in product design we are trying out a new customer feedback process. As the Product Team breaks apart various projects we want to get insight from the community to help inform design on future features for the site and apps. There is a brand new forum called User Insights where the Product Team is wanting to hear your thoughts on some very specific topics. If these discussions go well, you may see more topics showing up there in the future. Please be sure to read the pinned post detailing the User Insights Forum Guidelines before posting. Thanks so much!
  3. Hey forum follks! You may have noticed a few categories shifting around recently. We are currently working on cleaning up the forums and making things a tad more intuitive. Over the years, the list of categories has grown and grown...to a very long scroll down your computer screen. We are working on nesting forums and sub-forums (where it seems appropriate) to help facilitate easier access to the topics that you interested in - at a glance. Hopefully this will help to improve the look/feel of the forums, inspire fun conversation about different aspects of the game, and make it easier to connect with the global community that plays along with you. Thanks for your patience while we continue to make little changes here and there.
  4. Even though there are far reaching effects of this issue, this discussion is truly a regional issue that is specific to Arizona. In the future please refrain from negatively calling out moderators who are actually doing a great job of moderating the discussions in the forums. If someone would like to start a thread in the general discussions forums about more global perspectives in dealing with land manager issues in general, that would be okay. Please remember to keep all conversation constructive and respectful.
  5. We have been out geocaching two weekends in a row now...first time in awhile. Thanks for the assist, Mother Nature. Last weekend we motored on up to Vancouver, BC to stay in a fancy hotel and celebrate both of our birthdays (mine is in late March and his is this week) by exploring a new city together. We had a fantastic time! We found an EarthCache in Stanley Park while riding a tandem bike (that was quite a fun, new experience), we found caches along the waterfront by the big convention center, we found BC's oldest cache, we dropped off a bunch of TBs that were in need of a new adventure....whew!! It is always so hard to fit all the fun adventures we want to do into a weekend. Yesterday we enjoyed a lovely hike in the sunshine by grabbing some great puzzles that we solved in the fall. It feels so great to be getting outside a bit more lately. What have y'all been up to lately? Anything fun? Excited to check in with everyone and catch up on your latest adventures.
  6. Bummer! Thanks for the heads up. I've notified our IT Department so they can take a look into this again. Have a great weekend!
  7. Love the idea! I'll pass it on to our newsletter folks. Thanks Don!
  8. Thanks so much for sharing that little clip! It's so fun to hear news anchors talking about geocaching on national news.
  9. What an exciting whirlwind of a week with this competition! I loved the fun discussion and awesome graphs in this thread, gang. Thanks for getting the word out there! We have such an amazingly tight knit worldwide community!
  10. Good morning everyone! Wowza! We made it to the finals. It's been fun to watch the contests each day. Another fun one today....GEOCACHE vs ZEN. Excited to see how it turns out!!
  11. The site and apps are back up and running! Let us know if you see anything strange. Thanks for your patience today!
  12. You are hilarious! I have to admit that I actually paused for a few minutes to play around with various punctuation/sentence structure options, but none of them looked right. So I just went with it and hoped that no one would notice. LOL! I like your style, girl.
  13. WooHOOOO!! Go geocache! Wow, what a neat graph I! Thanks so much for sharing.
  14. Holy moly! Tough competition today. It's EW vs. GEOCACHE! I voted!!
  15. Wow! 15 states?!? That is quite a HUGE accomplishment! We're working our way East....many more fun memories and road trips to make! We love grabbing counties, Thomas Guide, & DeLorme pages. I grew up in Washington state and had never visited the northeastern/southeastern corners until last summer. What a great excuse to hop in the car! Excited to add a few more countries to our maps next fall, as well.
  16. Hello to our favorite geocachers! Geocaching.com and the Geocaching apps will be temporarily offline on April 8. We’re adding horsepower and beefing-up* Geocaching.com and our apps. They’ll both be much more stable after the upgrade. The site outage is expected to run about six hours starting at about 2pm PDT (convert to your local time here). Yeah, you read that right. Apologies, six hours is a little bit of time right? So, during that time you have a few options: Get inspired to make an amazing geocache. Check out this blog post with all you need to know. Go geocaching by using any of your pre-loaded geocache listings: Basic: Use the individual caches you have previously added to an offline list on iPhone or Android Premium: Use the pre-loaded caches (pocket queries) you have created on GPS, iPhone, or Android Don't forget to stick your phone into "airplane mode" and save all your super creative find logs to submit once everything is up and running again! *technical jargon
  17. Closing this thread as it has served its purpose: feature was requested and everybody thinks it is a good idea. Thanks for the feedback, knowschad.
  18. Awesome news! Thanks so much for working through this one with us. Great teamwork!
  19. This is the perfect place to ask. The souvenir will only be awarded to those who attend a CITO event on the weekend following Earth Day...on April 26 or 27. However, even though it won't earn you a geocaching souvenir, I think that it's a GREAT idea to pick up some trash on Earth Day. What a great way to celebrate our Earth!
  20. Hey there! HQ values the opinions of the community and we know that there are a lot of improvements that we can make to the phone apps/website to improve the user experience. We have definitely been listening to the forums lately, as conversations have become more constructive and helpful. Feedback has been taken (and will continue to be taken) into meetings regarding various improvements that are important to the community. Although change can be a slow progression in a company of our size, we are cachers too and care a great deal about this game. To answer your initial question...yes, indeed, there is an alleged "to-do" list. In past years we made the to-do list public in the forums. Unfortunately, this created frustration within the community and we ultimately decided to remove it. The thoughtful, constructive direction that the forums have been headed lately may invite some form of feedback options in the future. For now, please know that HQ Lackeys have been paying attention to opinions that we've been hearing in discussions. Please take part...we value constructive feedback from all experience levels, in all areas of the game.
  21. One of our amazing Community Managers is in charge of approving each of the submitted events for Maker status - one person for over 950 submitted, so far. Not every event that gets submitted gets approved and we've had a few come through Appeals that we've had to take a second look at. We are thrilled at the amount of events that have applied for Maker status and that the global community is excited to recognize the hider side of the game. There was an initial discussion about whether to let flash mobs participate in this...the outcome of that discussion was that it would be very hard to police them for this particular idea and that there could be some creative uses of that concept: A geocaching community wants to show up at a popular "Maker's" workplace and throw a mini thank you celebration to promote them sharing their skills with the community. One community wants to see how fast they can make a well camoed geocache...everybody is bringing supplies and they are all going to work together to create a new, creative geocache. We recognize that not all communities that are holding flash mobs (or a typical event, for that matter) for their Maker events will be this creative and/or get together with the intention that we have proposed. It is our hope that the excitement surrounding Maker Madness will help promote great discussion within the global community and bring a special awareness regarding those who enjoy hiding geocaches. Each geocacher attending an event has the opportunity to contribute to the discussion about quality hiding. We would love to empower each geocacher to bring their knowledge to the community about what makes a geocache special to them. We are seeing all kinds of events being submitted: meet & greets: where making geocaches will be discussed geo101 workshops: where community members will be exhibiting creative caches and instructing others on how to make them maker celebrations: where community members will recognize special hiders in their community that help improve the game for them Maker Madness events come in all shapes and sizes...just like geocachers.
  22. Thanks for your feedback! I would LOVE to see more events that encourage creative cache hiding, as well. Hopefully, hiding experts will be newly inspired to pass on their amazing knowledge to the community, year round - whether there is a souvenir or not.
  23. I'm celebrating with you today!
  24. Our favorites are those hidden gems that make you say "whoa!" Long forgotten historical sites, sweeping vistas on hikes, tiny (beautiful) parks in the city...the list goes on and on. We have seen some pretty magnificent places and driven down roads that we never would have chosen, all in the name of finding smileys. So, I guess for us, the experience of exploring new locations is a biggie. ...and we have been known to say "whoa!" when we find a super creative camo job or a well-crafted puzzle. I love that there are so many ways to create memorable experiences for others in this game.
  25. Happy Monday, geogang! We were super grateful for some dry weather on Saturday and took the opportunity to get out and grab a few challenge caches that we've been meaning to find. It has been so wonderful to have the extra daylight in the evenings this past week. It will now be more tempting to stop and grab a few smileys on the way home from work. Our routes might start getting more creative. Have a great week, everyone! Looking forward to hearing what you've all been up to.
