  1. Wish I would have seen these posts earlier. Ordered a bunch of geocoins from USAGEOCOINS. They were never shipped until I finally filed a complaint with PayPal (that was after a half dozen emails and a couple of phone calls)/ I finally got the coins and like everyone else, no activation codes. I have emailed repeatedly but have never received a response. I WILL NEVER ORDER ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY AGAIN.

Tried going to the site today and it now appears that it is no longer active. hmmm, from what I've read it seems something shady is going on with that particular company.

  2. What if you are out caching before and after meeting someone famous. Does that count as meeting them while caching?

Recent folks I've met and either gotten their autigraph and/or a my picture made with them:

Ace Frehley Band (Ace is formally a KISS member)

Amber Tamblyn (Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants)

    Bobby Brown

Cinderella Band Member (don't know his name)

    Jerry Sienfeld

    Johnny Depp

    Kenney Chesney

    Kix Brooks

    Robert Plant

    Sisqo

    Tom Arnold

    Snoop Dogg

    Miley and Billy Ray Cyrus

I'll post pics only if requested.

  3. Windows searched and self installed everything and I did not even insert the CD that came with the cord from Source / Radio shack. Everything is now working very best!

    VISTA is great!

(except when playing STARCRAFT as the older networking is no longer supported with the new windows)

Radio shack sells several different cords. Maybe you got lucky and chose the non problematic cord as Vista also tried to auto install on mine, but nothing. If Vista doesn't suck and didn't have a lot of issues, then why did they add the Compatibility Wizard? Vista still has a long way to go before I give it an okay.

  4. Everything is now working, here's what I did.

Windows Vista & Garmin eTrex Legend

How to get Win Vista to work with a Garmin Legend GPSr using a serial/usb cable converter.

    1) DO NOT PLUG THE CABLE INTO THE USB PORT UNTIL THE PROPER STEP.

    2) Go to Start-> Help and Support, and in the search help box type "compatibility wizard."

    3) Select "Start the program compatibility wizard."

    4) Select "Click to open the Program Compatibility Wizard."

    5) At the welcome screen click "Next."

    6) Insert the CD/DVD that came with the cable, but do NOT plug cable into the computer yet.

    7) Shut down any autorun option that opens, should you see it.

    8) Ignore any Explorer windows referring to the Radioshack USB Serial Driver, and close them.

    9) Get back to the Compatibility Wizard.

    10) Select "I want to locate the program manually" and click "NEXT."

    11) Click Browse and navigate to the drive containing the Radioshack driver CD/DVD.

    12) Select the program on the CD/DVD, click "Next."

    13) Select a compatibility mode for the program.

I had it running previously on Windows XP SP2, so I selected that.

    14) Just click "Next" thru the Vista dire warnings and Vista will install the driver correctly.

    15) Restart your computer when advised.

    16) NOW, Plug in the USB cable with attached device --Vista will detect the USB device, complete the driver installation, and your device should now work.

Notes: I use GSAK & nRoute so I had to change the "GPS Settings" to the appropriate COM port.

Also, if you previously installed the software, just hit the "Reinstall" button when prompted during the above instruction.

  5. Costco's lifetime return policy ended in early 2007. Returns are limited to 90 days for electronics,

    http://www.savingadvice.com/blog/2007/02/2...urn-policy.html

I bought a very expensive camera from Costco in the summer of 2006. I could have gotten it cheaper elsewhere, but went with Costco specifically because of the lifetime return policy (better than any warranty, right?) I'm going to be ticked if my camera breaks down a few years from now and Costco won't honor the return policy that was in place when I bought the camera.

I work at Costco and can tell you that it doesn't matter what the website says, they WILL take it back for a refund. Every Costco I know takes anything back. We recently gave a full refund for a hot tub that the people had for 5 years. The reason for the return was because it faded a little in the sun. Well, duh!! Another return was for a $2000 couch because it didn't go with their new wallpaper.

Yes, they will take back a $150 GPSr.

  6. Thank you to all that replied, unfortunately the issue is WINDOWS VISTA. Yes, I now join the thousands that hate it with a passion. Microsoft works hard to work against us. All about the buck, right?

Anyway, here is the fix to the problem for all those that experience the same issue.

  7. What should we do?

If the cache owner takes exception to you not finding all the stages and deletes your find, few will, then take it with a grain of salt and move on. I see the find as using your noggin to overcome, adapt, and persevere in the face of adversity which was the earlier stages of the hunt. If the owner cares anything about you shortcutting the multi then he should take it as a failure on his part and fix his cache, not delete your find.

I agree with this statement. If a cache owner truly wants all stages found, then they will add a feature to the cache stages that lets them know you found them all. I've seen lots of multi's that have simple verifications for each stage.

  8. I just purchased a new laptop (with Windows Vista Home Edition) and I'm trying to connect my Garmin eTrex Legend so I can upload caches from GSAK and use it with nRoute. I'm using a serial to USB converter, I did install the driver that came with it. I also went to the Garmin website and downloaded the latest drivers and updates.

The laptop still tries to figure out what to do with the GPSr when I plug it into the USB port. I can't even figure out what number each USB port is so I can tell GSAK. When I go to the Device Manager, it lists the GPSr as "Other Devices," "USB Serial Controller." I have 3 USB connections and they each show Port_#0001.Hub_#0004 - Port_#0001.Hub_#0005 & Port_#0001.Hub_#0006 when the device is plugged into them.

    Please help.

  9. I am up-and-running! Thank you all for your help.

Help us other dummies out here.... how did you get it to work? Configure the COM1 port properly?

No, I just installed the .exe file came with the USB to Serial cable. I use GSAK so it would only work on COM3.

  10. I also have an eTrex Legend (the blue) and cannot get it to work on my new laptop. I have a USB to Serial cable and the software with it worked fine on the old laptop (windows xp) but not the new one (windows vista). I know, I hate Vista too, but I have it now and have to use it.

    Any help?

  11. Although I disagree with the automatic archiving string, I do think there should be one more rule. Cachers should only be aloud a certain limit to the caches they place. Why? There has been many times when I looked for a cache and it wasn't there, I logged a DNF and a maintenance log, then waited and waited. Several weeks and sometimes months later, nothing. Not an email from the owner, not a cache maintenance from the owner, nothing posted by the moderator. Finally, I email the moderator only to get them to post a warning. Weeks later, nothing.

We have cachers in this area with so many cache hides that if someone emails them that it's missing, they just automatically archive it without even checking on the status. Just making it mandatory for them to log a maintenance on the cache is not enough, they would just post something without even checking on it.

    Just my two cents worth.

  12. It seems to me that there are more MOC's out there these days than there are otherwise. So, the question is, knowing this, why would someone place a TB out there expecting it to not go to a MOC? That says a lot about a person. HINT HINT

The REAL discussion should not be about something so pitiful. Anyone that has placed any amount of TB's out there in the world will tell you that there are fake cachers out there that steal TB's. Be glad that you still know where your TB is located.

As for those saying that their TB has been in a cache for a long period of time, well, that's partially their own fault. If you have a TB that hasn't moved for a while, then contact someone in that area to move it for you. At the very least, get them to pick it up and mail it to you COD. How? Do a zip code search for the area in which the cache is located and start checking the profile of users who logged it. If the profile has little or no info and not many finds, then go to the next. Find a user who caches in the area with a lot finds and more than basic information on their profile. That tells you that they have nothing to hide and are hopefully not shady.

So again, the real question is why Groundspeak doesn't require specific info from users who sign up. Info like getting an IP address of a user which would allow them to block that user in the future if anything shady comes up... like stealing. After all, it is stealing becasue people pay thousands of dolars for coins that get "pirated" It's not that cheap to by TB's and other equipment used to place the TB.

Worried that a TB is going into MOC's... get real!

  13. Not sure if this is the right place to post this but here goes:

I get weekly Pocket Queries and I then upload the GPX file to my GPS and then the PRC file to my Palm. When I view the PRC file on my Palm (using MobiPocket), I go to the table of contents and then perform a search for the cache I'm trying to find. Once the cache is found in the table of contents, I can then click on that file and the link takes me directly to the cache information. On a cache that has a hint, there is no link that takes me to it. So, in order to view the hint, I have to change to the appendix and perform yet another search. Very time consuming when you are power caching.

Why is there no link to take me automatically to the hint like there is for the cache information from the table of contents? Can this function be added? Pros and Cons?

  14. Bat-Bubba, please post a direct link to your coin. The two links you had above went to the storefront, that is not allowed, it must a link that takes you right to the coin.

    Thank you,

    Eartha

There is no link, the coins have all sold out. (as far as a I know)
