  1. I just had a problem with the site not responding - then getting the "Server Too Busy" error. I came over to the forums, found and skimmed this thread, then tried a refresh. Now not having a problem. Not saying that Groundspeak never has performance issues, but aren't there other factors involved that could cause issues - the lines and routing/transmission equipment between your computer and the server. I'm on the East Coast, so I'm sure there's a lot of them between me and Groundspeak. I expect problems getting to sites occasionally. When I get impatient, I just think that 25 years ago I wasn't able to access this wonderful resource called the internet. Just my 2 cents.
  2. I was getting this type of error also when trying to navigate the forums. If I just clicked in my web address bar and pressed <enter> to try again, it loaded the page in a decent amount of time.
  3. My weekly PQs for Wednesday have not run yet today. Last run times on 4 of them were between 7:01 and 9:21 AM on 3/4. The 5th was run last on 3/4 at 2:34 PM. I made a copy of one and it ran right away. Saw the posts about slow site issues and site errors, but didn't see any mention of PQ problems. Thanks.
  4. Can you get to the area to publish hides from HERE? I have never published a cache, so I'm not sure of the exact procedure. -Gremalkin
  5. And here I thought it was just my slow dial-up connection causing something to time out. I can't get to geocaching.com/my/default.aspx (get the error), but I can get to areas under my account by typing the URL (or linking from the history in my browser): geocaching.com/my/geocaches.aspx and .../my/watchlist.aspx etc. I can get to my pocket queries (geocaching.com/pocket). PQ Link Win XP SP2, Firefox 2.0.0.11 Edit: to fix SP # (SP3 is for Office :-) )
  6. I would like this option also. I usually click Edit, then Return to List, but sometimes click my browser bookmark for my PQ page. Would be nice to have the link on the preview page. -Gremalkin
  7. Thank you for the info. I will look for an issue on my end. Edit: Actually, I am now able to get to the site. Thank you again.
  8. I have been trying to get to store.Groundspeak.com for the past 1/2 hour, and keep getting a message that "Firefox can't establish a connection to the server". I can get to other websites. Just wondering if anyone else is having a problem to try to determine if it is a problem on my end. Thank you, Gremalkin
  9. Your 50 mile radius will get bigger as you find more caches close to home. You can mark your caches as found in GSAK and keep them in the same database as the ones not found. Or, you can move your found caches into a separate database. Either way, GSAK will have no problem with you loading multiple pocket queries into your database. -Gremalkin
  10. I sent an e-mail to Garmin asking about the free upgrade to Nav 8 if I buy Select 7 right now. No response yet to the e-mail, however I do see the responses posted above. My husband called Garmin Customer Service yesterday (Wednesday) and sat on hold for 1/2 hour to talk to one of their reps. The representative told him that Navigator v. 8 isn't even out yet, so no we wouldn't qualify for a free upgrade. He said they didn't have a release date on the regular version yet - possibly August. He also said that City Select is a different product so we could only get upgrades to CS not Navigator. Maybe he's new. After all the good things I've heard about Garmin's support, this surprises me. He did verify that GPS Discount is an authorized distributor, so we are going to go ahead and purchase the package and then fight for the upgrade if we have to. :-) -Gremalkin
  11. I wanted to order from GPS Discount to get the package deal with the AutoNav Kit - Since I want to buy the 76cx and Navigator - for about $10 more than gpsnow.com, I can get the beanbag mount, auto mount and cigarette adapter.
  12. Is this legit: http://www.gpsdiscount.com/products/index.html?a=507 Garmin will give an free upgrade to Navigator if I purchase Select v 7 from GPSDiscount? Seems fishy to me - aren't they 2 different products? I apologize if this is already addressed in the forums. I got tired of weeding through posts on my slow dial-up connection.
  13. I just assumed it was because the 60 series is more popular than the 76 series, and they are trying to boost sales on the 76 series. You can get the rebate form from Garmin: http://www.garmin.com/whatsNew/currentprom.../gpsmap76cx.pdf
  14. I did go to SurfControl's website, printed out the ratings for the sites and hand delivered to my supervisor. I apologize to TPTB for not going there first. I'm sorry for wasting your time. :-( But I did get a link for a kewl site above to bypass the filter - although I'm afraid to use it and get called into another meeting. So until I can get affordable high-speed internet at home I'll just deal with my 33.6 (on a good day) connection.
  15. Thank you so much for looking into this. Although I am wondering if I got a "song and dance" from my admin person. According to him geocaching.com was categorized as None until Tuesday sometime, at which time it became Phising and Fraud; and banman5.Groundspeak.com is Adult/Sexually Explicit material. Doesn't jive with SurfControl's e-mail. Nevertheless, I have copied your e-mail from SurfControl to the persons of power at my workplace, as well as encouraged them to explore the site to see that it really is a family activity and there is no adult or inappropriate material. Geez - I take my 3 year old and 1 year old geocaching - what kind of parent do they think I am? :-) Anyway, thank you Rothstafari for the fast response!
  16. Yeah - but the funny thing is - they said the site is ok. (We can use internet for personal use during lunch and after hours.) They can change the category, but said as soon as they get another update from SurfControl, it would be changed back. I was hoping that somehow the category through SurfControl could get corrected. I don't know if Jeremy or anyone has any power over what SurfControl categorizes their site as. I figured I'd post here to see if TPTB could send an e-mail to the company or something. -Desperately trying to get back my lunchtime activity :-) Edit to add Thanks for the proxy site. Let's see how long until that is blocked. :-)
  17. I can no longer access geocaching.com from work. We use SurfControl, and as of yesterday, it has categorized gc.com as Phising and Fraud. I was told by my administrator that someone from gc.com would have to contact SurfControl to have this category reassessed. Also, the Groundspeak website is categorized as Adult/Sexually Explicit material. (Specifically banman5.Groundspeak.com.) Odd that I can get here, but not gc.com :-). I don't know if this is affecting anyone else - but can TPTB possibly look into this so I can continue to feed my addiction to geocaching during my lunch break? I know SurfControl has a Hobbies and Recreation category - don't know if you can request these sites to be in that category? Thank you!
  18. I have a yahoo account that I have used for a couple of years. I use it for everything on the internet: mailing lists, registrations, even registration forms at stores. I am using the spam protection provided by Yahoo, and can count on my fingers the number of spam messages that have gotten through to my In Box. My spam folder gets less than 5 messages in it a week. Unfortunately, I have to check this folder, because once in a while some of my mailing list messages go into there, although most times they go to my Inbox (ones sent from same e-mail address). My e-mail username has an underscore (_) in it. Although I am somewhat careful about who I provide my e-mail address to - I do distribute it quite a bit. I am wondering if the _ has anything to do with me getting very little to no spam? Just a thought.
  19. I received 2 spam messages this morning to my gmail account. I only use this account for geocaching.com, and my e-mail address is hidden from users. (Although I have sent it to a couple of people on geocaching.com with an e-mail) I figured someone did a mass mailing of gmail accounts. Hopefully I won't get any more. Edit to add that I really don't know anything about harvesting e-mail or ROT13 encyrpting so I can't really comment there. :-)
  20. I bought mine 2 months ago from NavSphere through amazon.com: amazon link It was/is 24.95 on amazon, and 22.95 on navsphere. It was cheaper for me to order from amazon when I calculated the shipping charges. This price includes the window suction cup mount. EDIT: Looks like navsphere is having a liquidation sale on the compact model here. 17.95, add $3 for window mount. Has 3' and 16' lengths available. At first glance, it looks like it's the same as the regular one, just smaller. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
  21. You need to use html code. <br> at the end of a line (include the <>) will insert a line break.
  22. I didn't get to read the thread before it was closed, but this is hilarious: http://boards.courttv.com/showthread.php?t...ight=geocaching http://boards.courttv.com/showthread.php?t...0&pagenumber=17 Gotta watch those travel bugs. :-) /me retreats back to lurking status EDIT: To add that it is a little bit creepy - you never know who's out there (not just referring to geocaching). Remember to use COMMON SENSE. :-)
  23. So it works with IE (bleh) or Opera? Hmm - to put up with it or switch browsers. . . OK - thanks for the info. -Gremalkin
  24. When I transfer from geocaching.com to the forums, I get the page that says it updated my account information. When I click on Enter the Groundspeak Forums, I am not logged in - I am a guest, and must click the Login to Forums link. I use Mozilla Firefox, and have it ask me about all cookies - and only use per session. So, I know I have to login each time I close and reopen my browser. But, doesn't that transfer page update my account information, and thus the forums should know that it is me? (I allow all cookies (per session) from www.geocaching.com and forums.Groundspeak.com) It makes no difference whether I check the Remember Me checkbox on geocaching.com. (I know that's to set the cookie that is deleted when I close my browser, but I tried it anyway.) Is this normal? I tried searching to forums for information on this, but I tend to get lost in all the info. on the www. :-) Thank you for helping a stupid forum user! -Gremalkin
  25. Yeah, I know. I just pulled everything out of storage where it's been sitting since last spring. I ordered an external antenna and power/data cable for the car. I signed up for premium membership, and I am going to increase my 11 pitiful finds. :-) I love geocaching, but life has been too hectic the past couple of years. I don't think I'll be doing 20 finds in a day or anything, but I'm already trying to plan cache searches for lunch breaks and commutes home. Hard to do without the premium features (map zooms, scolls and icons primarily). Also can't wait to play with the gpx files and queries. -Gremalkin
