  1. Please contact Magellan Tech Support for a replacement. Normally they can replace the unit very quickly. Magellan -Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. PST/PDT Telephone: 800 707 9971 David Magellan Insider
  2. Hello Duck, Just so you know, you can post Geocaching question on the Magellan Insiders forum and someone there will help you also since most of us our avid cachers. The best way that I've found to manage caches on the unit, especially my "found" caches is to simply create pocket queries that exclude the caches I've found and then delete all of the caches on the unit and reload a freshly ran copy of the pocket query on the until before going out to cache. I know several people that take hours managing their caches trying to keep their found caches in one database in GSAK and other caches in that database and so on. I'm sorry, but I'd rather be caching than sitting behind a computer!!! Especially since I do enough of that at work and keeping up with the forums that I monitor for Magellan. If you're using Magellan's Vantage Point software of GSAK it will only take you about 2 minutes to do the whole process. I have a pocket query setup for several areas around where I live that load between 4000 to 5000 caches and I have some of them setup to refresh every day. However, I also have others have I can just run on the day that I need them. First, turn on your GPS and delete all of the caches and waypoints (I store any special waypoints that I need to keep on my computer). Open VP or GSAK and use the automatic pocket query download feature and then transfer them to the unit. Personally I don't bother with transferring the image because it takes up to much memory on the GPS and it takes too long to transfer. Doing this process I can load around 5000 caches in about 2 minutes and be ready to go out the door! However, if you're using a MAC, just do the same process though you'll have to manually download the PQs and copy them to your GPS which will take a bit longer. David Magellan Insider
  3. I have the same problem so I've had to jump up to a touch model (eX510, 610 or 710) because the screen on the GC was just to small for my eyes... My wife is also having the same problem so I gave her an eX610 and she loves the bigger screen and not having to carry her reading glasses with her. David Magellan Insider

  5. Good find. When you have your GPS set to use Magnetic North the GPS and your compass should read the same thing. David Magellan Insider

  7. I apologize on behalf of all the Maggie users here. Yes, you cannot edit the coordinates of a Geocache. You have to create a waypoint, and navigate to it. I'm of the opinion this ability will be part of the new firmware upgrade, although that is the GC, and not the 110. I'm sorry, but I didn't see your earlier post; however, I would like to invite you to join us at the Magellan Insiders Forum where there is always someone to answer your questions. Http://www.MagellanInsiders.com. Also, as far as editing the coordinates of a cache on the GPS, this was disabled in the new eXplorist line; however, it has been requested that this again be enabled. 8. Main screen certainly has a different look, I like it. What do you mean by "You will also notice the topo lines from my added map"? More specifically the "added map" part? Are you saying the updated world-wide base map will include Topo lines, or that we will have the ability to add other maps? There is a new improved basemap included with the update; however, it does not include the topo. Yes, the topo are added and yes the new firmware does allow the user to add maps to the unit just like with the eX310. This new upgrade makes the Gc a major step up as far as a Geocaching GPS and I'm glad to see it. David Magellan Insider Oh yes, I see that now in the GC forum, but obviously not included in the post you linked to. Yes, that is awesome, and will make the GC one heck of a nice little unit for 150 bucks!! Believe it or not, Mr.Yuck is one of the few, the proud, the WindowsPhone users. Maybe that's why I liked it? I have an Android and wish I had a Windows phone because I do all of my business planning in Outlook and write everything in Word and although there is some functionality with the Android, keeping my calendar up-to-date between the Android and Outlook is flawed at best. I used to have a Palm phone and althoug it wasn't a Windows phone it worked a lot better than what is available for the Android, or at least what I've been able to find... They want you to take everything over to Google and that just doesn't work for me...

  10. Although I don't understand why the v1.7 wasn't released for the MAC, most all of the updates being released now are available for the PC and the MAC and I was told that the firmware would be released for both. If it NOT, please contact me at Zukicacher@gmail.com and I'll help you upgrade your GC with your MAC... David Magellan Insider

  12. Tracy Lyn, You probably already tried this, but I would suggest trying a different USB cable. If that doesn't work, please go ahead and contact technical support (Hours: Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. PST/PDT Telephone: (800)707-9971). If you have any problems with the replacement process or if you continue to have problems after receiving the replacement unit please do not hesitate to contact me either by email, on the forum I suggested or by reposting here and I will give you the direct number to Jeff Caulfield who is the National Product Trainer/Brand Advocate for Magellan Outdoor GPS and he will do everything he can to help resolve any problems. David Magellan Insider
  13. Tadpole, I'm sorry for the late reply, but the answer it yes there are maps still available and actually you can make your own for free. If you would like more information I suggest checking out http://www.magellaninsiders.com for there are a number of people on the forum that still have Triton, of which I'm one, and you will find all the help you need. David Magellan Insider
  14. TracyLyn, Are you using a PC or a MAC? If you're using a PC it might me easier to use Magellan's Vantage Point software to load the GPX file onto the unit; however, drag-n-drop should be straight forward. You can use GSAK with the unit. However, if you're using a MAC or dead set on using drag and drop make sure than when you unzip the pocket query only drag the GPX file, that does not contain the -wpts in it, to the Geocache directory on the unit. The GPX file with the -wpts file can be droped in the Waypoints directory and it will load the child waypoints for the caches into the unit as waypoints, not caches. If you need further assistance I would invite you to join us at: http://www.magellaninsiders.com where there are a number of individuals who can give you assistance. You can also email me at Zukicacher@gmail.com, but either way we'll make sure you get the help you need. David Magellan Insider
  15. Unfortunetly the only way to transfer the pictures to the unit at this time is via Magellan's Vantage Point(VP) software or GSAK, neither of which will run on your MAC. However, Magellan is working to correct this, but it will be some time before the fix is released. The other option is to run either the VP or GSAK software on your MAC with a PC emulator, which many people are doing. Also, you would like to learn more about using your GC or getting the software to run with your MAC I would like to invite you to join us at http://www.Magellaninsiders.com, which is a free open forum where you can easily get the answers to any questions you might have concerning your GC. 16. Thanks, my fingers sometimes get a bit to happy on the keyboard...

  19. Unfortunetly small is what people have been asking for! If you need a larger unit, the eXplorist 510 is running $229 on Amazon and has a much larger screen and has all of the capabilities of the GC plus a whole lot more. The eX510 also includes a geotagging camera and video recorder, voice recorder and has an SD card so you can load an unlimited amount of customs maps and other items on the unit. My wife also has a hard time with the smaller GPSes and was always carrying her glasses with her when caching; however, I got her an eX610 and she has no problem reading it without her glasses. One of the things that I love with the larger units is that I have over 6,600sq miles of Satellite maps loaded on an SD card and when I'm out caching I can see right where the cache is. This has been an amazing plus while caching both in town and out in the desert. David Magellan Insider
  20. Well.... your body is 98.6°F (thereabouts). That is where you should carry it. Bring it out when you need it, put 'er back when done. The display screen on your unit (or any other) will not like sustained -25°F. Aside from that, the -25° kills batteries moreso than the unit, rather it renders them useless until warmed -- so don't let 'em get cold! EDIT to add: I would bet that FEW go caching at -25°F. But really, it's the windchill that is the determining factor. Why not consider the eX310? Then you get the best of both the eX110 and the GC and you can get it for $159 on Amazon.com... David Magellan Insider
  21. Yes, this is not a limit on the GC, but the way that Groundspeak setup the API. There is nothing that Magellan can do about this and you won't find a GPS that does anymore than this at the present time. If and when Groudspeak chooses to change the API then Magellan will support the new feature. David Magellan Insider
  22. Please give me more information. Are you loading Pocket Queries to the GPS and expecting it to know which caches you found and which ones you haven't. If so, the unit will not do that. It only knows which caches have been logged on the unit. David Magellan Insider
  23. CrazyColorado, Here is the situation. The Send to GPX was only designed to quickly load a few quick caches to the unit, but you do not want to use it to load a large number of caches to the unit. Everytime you use the Send to GPX it creates another GPX file on the unit and due to the Windows Mobile/CE operating system the high number of file handles being used becomes more than the computer can resembly use. So, here is the fix - don't use the Send to GPX except on a limited basis; instead, create pocket queries and use them. With pocket queries you can load 1,000 caches in each query and a total of 10,000 on the unit. So, to fix the error you're having, connect the GPS to your computer and delete all of the GPX files in the Geocaching directory and then reload the caches with a pocket query. David Magellan Insider
  24. There should be a setting in your GPS that will let you quickly change between the Decimal and Decimal.minute formats. David
  25. G, The eXplorist GC is a great little Geocaching GPS. Yes, as give all consumer devices there will be those who will always find fault them a product; however, with the thousands and thousands of these units that have been sold around the world over the past two years the response to these units is extremely postive. If you have a bit of computer know how, this unit is extremely easy to load and give you superior paperless caching at a price that can't be matched when you consider the color screen and the capabilities of the unit. Also, there is a coming update that will allow you to load custom maps on this unit, which will be a free update in response to user request which speaks worlds about Magellan Outdoor GPS as a company. I've have been testing for them for two years and I have never worked with a group of individuals or a company that listen to their customers like Magellan is doing. They want to produce the products that we're asking for and they're not kicking us to the side once we've bought a product. So, my answer is "YES", I recommend the eXplorist GC.
