  1. I'm still new to this thing called geocaching, so a lot of the "dead horse" debates are still somewhat fresh for me. Even though I don't necessarily have well-formed opinions about a lot of the topics that come up, I generally find myself nodding along (no, not nodding off!) the most when I'm reading posts by: Briansnat Criminal Coyote Red
  2. I definitely log all my DNFs. My criteria is very similar to Briansnat's. If I pull up the coords and hit enter (no goto on a Lowrance), and I don't find the cache, then I log the DNF (unless I'm driving and just change my mind about looking for that one). There is nothing more satisfying than proudly claiming that smiley after 1 (or 2) DNFs. So far, I've gone 0 fer 2 and found the cache on the 3rd try a couple of times, but have never gone 0 fer 3.
  3. You can post a note and drop them with the note.
  4. Enjoy myself. Add the states of MS, AR and maybe more. Post more photos. Do a better job with the timeliness and the goals of the TBs I pick up. CITO more.
  5. X Marks the Spot - Urban Jungle III was the most difficult puzzle I've had to solve, plus finding the right access point to get back there. Patience is a Virtue is another locally infamous one. I've got the puzzle solved but haven't been able to get out there again to actually go after it - it's all the way on the other side of town.
  6. He's adorable! I'm sure his former owner would be so happy to know he landed in such a great home!
  7. I have an older Lowrance - the iFinder Pro and have been extremely happy with it. I had an eXplorist 210, and have found the Lowrance to be far more user friendly.
  8. For sale is a Lowrance iFinder Pro Plus. The unit is new, in opened box. The box was opened and resealed with everything inside. I got it for my mom for Christmas who decided she'd rather have some fancy die-cutter for scrapbooking $160, or best offer, including Priority Shipping - anywhere in the US. I have 100% positive feedback on ebay, under the same username. Post here or PM me if interested - I accept money order, check or PayPal. --Kristin PS - The Plus means that the iFinder comes with the MapCreate software, a memory card and card reader, a car power adapter and the waterproof bag.
  9. Most of us Savannahians are active in the Georgia Geocachers Association. There are several stellar cachers active in the area, but as far as I know, only a few of us are active online. You might want to post a thread at the GGA website forums. --Kristin
  10. Thanks for the PM, too bad it's at the other end of the state from where I'll be!
  11. None are too close to me, either. Did he say where, in TN? I will be in W TN early next year visiting family.....
  12. I wonder if ArmyTimes did the same thing. I'll have to check... Edit: I searched their archives and it looks like they ran the same article in all their editions: I can't find anything else though - my guess is that it was only on the site for a limited time since it was a monthlong promotion. Through Army Times, though, the writer of the article can be contacted via email. --Kristin
  13. I knew there was a simple explanation, and I just figured it out. I went back through my profile and noticed that it looks like it's a case of the benchmark not counting towards my total (just noticed the little asterisks). Some days.
  14. I was sorting through some of my numbers today and noticed that my stat bar doesn't match with my GSAK totals. GSAK shows 131 finds, the stat bar (and my profile) shows 130. In my profile, when I sort by all "Found It" logs, then I get 129. When I click on "Attended" logs, there is 1. I also have a benchmark find. So, shouldn't that total 131? My Stat bar only shows 130. However, then when I click Here, it's only showing 130, counting the benchmark and the event. I'm sure it's a very simple explanation, but I can't figure it out. --Kristin
  15. At the Army surplus store in Savannah, I can get the ammo cans for $4 or $7.50 for the larger ones. For the small quantity I need, it's much cheaper to just pick them up as I need them rather than pay shipping.
  16. Kemang, Indonesia. There is ONE cache near there ETA - It was hidden 7/2004 and has never been found... I've got the Savannah one on my watchlist - maybe I can grab it when it swings by.
  17. It is nice to see someone who thinks before he types. I have seen what negative posts can do. A cache is hid so the hider feels like a part of the hobby. When someone with some idea claims the cache is "lame" or "unchallenging" to them and leaves the negative comments (My dog really hates these caches), what must the hider think. I feel it really hurts the hobby. The above comment really somes it up. That, combined with an attitude of "assume goodwill" on the part of the post reader. If one assumes that the other is intending goodwill, then it's easier to go back and re-read a post in a much lest angst-y tone. That doesn't preclude criticism or negative logs or negative comments about certain types of caches, just brings with it the interpretation that the post writer was speaking towards the good of the game, not the bad of the hider/finder/whatever.
  18. I've only been caching since June so most of them are still active...
  19. Without going into unwanted details, I'll just say "Ditto" Me too.
  20. I found the menus to be a pain. I know that the Windows-style folders and menus is supposed to be a positive thing, but it was more annoying than anything to me. I also didn't care for the fineagling required to get the unit to go to each point as a geocache, showing the icon on the navigation page. I lost mine and I ended up buying a different unit, with a larger screen and easier navigation for a comparable price. The 210 works just fine, but I was able to get proficient at using my new GPSr much faster.
  21. That's what I do as well. I use Google Earth to get approximate coordinates, fill out the cache page and then label the container. Hide the cache, take the accurate coordinate readings and then come home and finalize the cache listing before activating it.
  22. You're gonna love it! I've got an older, less sophisticated version - the iFinder Pro and am so happy with it. I find that the menus are very intuitive and I've not had any problem getting used to navigating through them. I love how easy it is to use...and use well
