  1. I love the new filters! But there is one thing I didn't want changed: I wish the map did not hide my previously found caches by default. Our family LOVES the smilies . As silly as it may sound, a big payoff for us overtime is seeing the map gradually become covered with little smiley faces. I've also found it is a delightful surprise that hooks new cachers as they see and track their progress across the map. Yes. I realize I can click into the filters and uncheck this setting each time I load the map, but we just want our smilies there by default
  2. May I just say THANK YOU! Please Groundspeak, give your UX designers a hug (or a raise!). I have never bothered much with puzzle caches because they were just too cumbersome to keep track of. Now, I've spent an entire weekend solving them so my family can head out caching.
  3. With all of the focus on UX design coming from Groundspeak lately I had the thought today that I had better get working on some of the Wherigos I want to get out. I have a sneaking suspicion that their time may be up soon. Interesting to see all of you have had this discussion already. Personally, I think grandfathering them would be a smart decision on Groundspeak's part....but it will certainly leave a lot of us enthusiasts disappointed.
  4. Wow, MrsLegoLegend and I had no idea what we were getting ourselves into by grabbing that cache last night. The forum has caught fire since then, so without trying to address all the issues at hand, I would like to respond to the Water Rat's accusation that all of the latest finders are cheating. A problem with judging cachers solely by their logs is you don't really know the context at all. First, drgw3128 and Utahsnowflake have been married for years. Both of them finding the same cache isn't quite like taking the cache to an event for all in attendance to sign. Or even like calling up a buddy to come sign the cache while its in your possession. Generally when you cache with someone else, it doesn't matter who actually spots the cache first, both tend to sign the log. Second, although we are friends with both of the previous hiders, literally all we received last night was a text containing a GC code. This message came after new coordinates had already been posted and the hundreds of cachers watching this cache had received a notification. Having found moving caches before, we actually ended up deciding not to go retrieve the cache last night since it was down in the town south of us. About an hour later, however, we got a FTF notification and that got us out the door. Again, the purpose of this log is to point out that everybody accusing each other of cheating is kind of pointless when you don't have the whole story. That's just how this game works. Before throwing accusations, try to find out the whole story. And maybe take a few minutes to calm down and remember its just a game.
  5. I had to check to see if you were from Ontario. We have the same issue. Almost every month a new powertrail of challenge caches pops up somewhere. The once leisurely pastime is increasingly becoming about competitive power caching. I was originally confused by that statement myself. After a little research, however, I found out that comment is referring to what were known as "Geocaching Challenges", which are different from Challenge Caches. This blog post explains the idea pretty well. http://www.notaboutthenumbers.com/2011/08/27/geocaching-challenges-now-seven-days-old-and-still-here/. In the end they decided the idea was a flop, and chose to get rid of them altogether. Perhaps that adds to why Groundspeak is hesitant to make Challenge Caches a unique cache-type now...even though its a great idea!
  6. I've been working on a reverse geocache cartridge myself, and have used Urwigo to implement that feature. Unfortunately my laptop is currently being repaired, however, I remember using the "distance to zone" feature. The only issue I have encountered is that the iPhone Wherigo player can't seem to calculate distance in miles. Everything else seems to work fine though!
  7. I too, would absolutely love it if challenges were their own cache type. The difficulty I see is what to do with all of the current ones out there, and how that would affect player's current stats. Has Groundspeak posted anywhere other reasons as to why Challenge Caches cannot be their own type. I would love to see what they have to say, I'm sure they know more about the logistics of it than I do.
  8. Problem solved. Thanks for the suggestions. Looks like Ranger Fox nailed it. I created a version I can try from where I am, and it looks like the coordinates simply show your own location. My tester had been close enough to activated zone that they found it fairly quickly and figured that the coordinates had shown them where to go . Sorry for the unnecessary thread . They had sent screen shots and everything. On another note, we did find that the iphone shows the name of any audio files that play at the bottom of the screen. Thanks for your help!
  9. Hi, Can anyone help me with this issue I'm having testing my Wherigo on the iphone? Essentially, the goal of the Wherigo is to find the active zone within a field. I have fifteen possible zones, and there is a 1 in 15 chance of each zone being selected. Although chosen zone does not show up on the locations tab, the coordinates are displayed at the bottom of the iphone screen. Has anyone else ever run into this issue?
  10. Related question, does anybody know if fdl files can be converted into mp3 files? I'm trying to get my Wherigo to be the same experience regardless of what it is played on. Even if that means the only sounds are beeps.
  11. Being fairly new to Wherigo building I have searched the forums for beginners instructions to adding "beeping" noises to cartridges made in urwigo. I understand how to add more complex audio files that will play on smart phones, but I have not been able to figure out what I should be looking for to make the gps beep. Any suggestions for the newbie? Thanks!
