are you holding the unit upright or flat? It is my understanding that if you have it set to go to the electronic compass after a certain speed, say 10mph, you need to hold the unit flat with the top pointing in the direction you want to go. I notice this quite a bit on my snowmobile. I use lith batteries with no probelms in all weather.

It is my understanding that the electronic compass only kicks in when you are standing still and the unit is horizontial. I use mine for snowmobiling and keep it on a marine mount. Calibrate after battery changes.

Garmin 76CSX rocks!

There must be 10 Garmin owners for every 1 Magellan just based on the forum pages. I own the Garmin 76csx and nothing that Magellan has comes close. Ease of use, tech support and forum information lead me to Garmin. Too bad you just missed the $100 rebate. The 60 & 76 series (x) has expandable mem card and auto routing for in car nav. Does Magellan have the sirf chip? if not go Garmin.

If you use the USB port in the car, the garmin mount will block the port. The plastic mount has a cutout for the standard power 4 pin and it also slides in and helps keep it secure. Between the lock on the mount and the plug, my 76csx has never bounced out on my snowmobile or truck. Bought the power cord (coiled!) on ebay, works great and also has a led power indicator and fuse on the plug.

I vote 76csx Too bad you missed the $100 rebate. I just got my rebate check in the mail yesterday.

When I connect my 76csx to my Dell laptop, I have to boot the computer and install the cable after the computer is good to go. If I connect before I start the computer, it does not boot up and freezes up. Following that procedure and using a 1 g card, no problems with TOPO or CS7. Up or down loads all OK. Love the unit!

Love the unit, can't wait to use it on my snowmobile in Canada this winter. Works awesome in the truck and on the Bike. The USB and 1 gig mem card also works flawlessly. Best handheld unit by far!

Can't go wrong with scandisk. I have the 76csx with 1G, put the 128meg card with adapter in my PDA. Do not get the ultra, it will not work.

I have the 76 CSX and it works great in the car. It has the turn preview screen so you can tell exactly how far in distance and time the next turn is.
