  1. I have two very different feelings. The humanist in me loved the log and the happiness and joy brought about by the encounter. The Boy Scout in me absolutely cringed at the thought of anyone, let alone children, petting and handling wild raccoons.I kept reading hoping that I wouldn't find the end I was anticipating. Fortunately, I didn't.
  2. Yep, first you have to pay $30 per year to become a Premium Member. Then the option shows up on your page so you can set them up.
  3. We (Mom, Dad and 3 kids) started out with one username. The two older kids now have their own names - and backdated all of their finds to keep the count correct. I will go caching by myself or with Mrs. CRAWIL, but she won't go without me so one account for us works very well.
  4. Don't forget to put the GPSr into "pedestrian" or "off-road" mode when you are in a park or otherwise away from paved roads, otherwise, it will constantly try and get you back to a road.
  5. A blank log is best. A few other items that I've seen that work nicely: lotto scratchers (unscratched) or small denomination gift cards to local merchants.
  6. Since geocaching.com doesn't track FTF's, the only way to let either GSAK or MyGeocachingProfile know is to mark them yourself before you generate the stats.
  7. Is it just me or do any of you see the alien in this picture? I'd never seen it before, but I do now. If I had noticed that it was there, I probably wouldn't have sat at the base to rest!
  8. Which version of Firefox? Does it happen in other browsers like Chrome or Opera?
  9. I like the idea - some way to show that the DNF has been "closed".
  10. griswell, welcome to the Hider's Club!
  11. Sorry, but please re-read the third paragraph of post #3 in this thread.
  12. We, too just returned from a Yellowstone trip! I was pleasantly surprised to find so many of TerryDad2's there. Whenever we see one of his, we know that the science is spot on and the requirements are not rinky-dink. My father-in-law, who has visited Yellowstone several times, commented later that he visited places, saw things and learned more with us than in any other visit, all due to EarthCaches! A big THANKS to all that have created EarthCaches in the National Parks - they make the visits all that more memorable.
  13. GSAK has a neat macro that you can run to generate the stats for you - FindStatGen3. ItsNotAboutTheNumbers.com will also generate statistics that you can post. Some generate their own code. Pick your comfort level.
  14. I noticed it today on both GC1TH24 and GC1TH1P.
  15. I have a claw grabber thing in my trunk that the family bought me from the dollar store several years ago as a joke. I needed it yesterday! I'm 6 feet tall and was after a cache at a busy intersection that was six inches out of reach. I figured that jumping would direct more attention than I wanted, so I had to use the claw. I also keep an extensible magnet & inspection mirror in my cache bag.
  16. Perfect! I had the same question and really appreciate the answer, guggie.
  17. Try asking in one of your local forums as I'm not sure how many from Bath are reading the world-wide posts.
  18. I, too, was having problems getting my PQ's. Set up a Gmail account and have all Geocaching things send directly there. Since I've done this, no lost emails!
  19. To make the routes work, you have to create a Pocket Query and to create a Pocket Query, you have to be a Premium Member @ $30/year. I'm planning a 750 mile trip (each way) and am busy setting up my routes now so I'll have something to find at each potty and food stop.
  20. I'm guessing that the system ate your question, but to answer the subject, everything you want to know about EarthCaches can be found at http://www.earthcache.org.
  21. Instead of making it an official Geocaching Event, just have a fun activity for the men's ministry just as you described. Make sure you a.) have enough handheld GPSr's for each team and b.) someone on each team that knows what's going on enough to navigate to GZ and find the cache.
  22. Yep, on both Firefox 3.0.10 and Chrome.
