  1. I had one of those some time ago and it didn't come with a built-in GPS. You had to purchase a "puck" style one and connect to it via bluetooth. I think I used GPXSonar to handle the actual paperless caching functions.
  2. An ABC Challenge cache (GC1HNXT) was placed near me on Sept. 6, 2009 with the stipulation that "All caches must be found in CALIFORNIA ON or AFTER 6 September 2009." So far, 21 cachers have been able to complete the challenge, including 4 within a week. One of the cachers has 3,737 finds and another has 13,022. It can be done.
  3. Just remember, Happy Wife, Happy Life. Nuf' said.
  4. The problem is that all of the stat-generating programs I'm aware of require the "My Finds" Pocket Query (PQ) to generate the stats. This way they can guarantee the condition of the data being fed into the program. The only way to get the "My Finds" is via Premium Membership.
  5. Exactly what I do. Of all of the methods, I've found that this is the best and fastest. 15 seconds is a good approximation of the time involved, unless, out of curiosity, I browse the caches in question to see why they were archived.
  6. When we took our last road trip (So Cal to Yellowstone up I-15), I spent some time looking at the EarthCaches along our routes and in the park and printed out all of the ones that we would conceivably want to visit. I then placed them in a 3-hole binder to keep them in one place. Whenever we were near an EC, out came the binder. We wrote our answers on the page in question and then moved it to the back of the book. When we got home, all of the emails went out. I have been paperless for several years now, but for this one outing, and just for the EarthCaches, it was much easier.
  7. Just saw the show out here on the left coast. My kids thought I was nuts when I started whooping and hollering! For all of the cool stuff ABC and their sponsors do for the show, I was quite surprised that they didn't use a Colorado or Oregon.
  8. What a neat idea! By looking at your map, it seems that you spent more of your trip in NV, ID, WY, CO & AZ than Utah.
  9. Maybe use what you both said. Call it "the keys to geocaching" and then put a tag on the keys that says the title along with the game piece do not remove info. I'll do that. Thanks guys! (err. if bittsen is a guy. I'm not sure.) Cut the tips of the keys off maybe 1/4 - 1/2 inch. Then no one would think that they go to anything anymore.
  10. Have you asked the cache owner? Since they went to the trouble to put the puzzle together, they may get a bit bent if you try and solve it "behind their back."
  11. Not after one of his hikes, you wouldn't!
  12. POLE POSITION, check in with your local forums. They will have more local information than most of us can. Good luck!
  13. I have a geo-friend with 733 TB's and 566 coins. You wouldn't be able to see a thing on a map with all of the travels listed at once! I've got 10 TB's and think it would be cool, but the concept needs some work.
  14. Hi Crawil -- augghggh!!! That's OK -- no need to repost the stupid reply from the stupid Verizon people. Dang it anyhow. It's enough to make you switch carriers or just say to heck with the phone and buy a dedicated GPS device. Appreciate the help! I do use a Garmin Vista Etrex HCx since the Verizon Curve BlackBerry won't help me much!
  15. Verizon has crippled the GPS in the Curve. It only works with the VZ Navigator and BlackBerry Maps applications. The GPS won't work with CacheBerry at all but I really like to use it as my paperless option so I will open the cache with CacheBerry and then use it to open the cache in BlackBerry maps to route me to it or Google Maps to show me on the satellite view where it is. As long as you are not in a trackless forest, it works okay. I asked Verizon about the lack of open GPS and got a long, stupid reply. I can post it if wanted.
  16. Try Googling something like "cheap digital camera". Within a few moments, I was able to find several low-end digital cameras for under $20 and some for under $10. They will not take a photo that I would want to blow up to 5 x 7 and frame, but there are cameras that can be used during caching runs without problems. Anyone can find someone that needs something done for which they are willing to pay $20. Just ask around.
  17. Do you have some information that can help us do some sluething? The cache name or the GC number would help.
  18. If you create a cache with a built-in "surprise" that may elicit a yell, shout or shriek, make sure you place it in an out-of-the-way enough location that a victim cacher won't be attracting too much attention.
  19. I can help with So. Cal. EarthCaches.
  20. I used to play Civilization I, II, III, and IV (had to do a pc upgrade for that one) until all hours in the a.m. It drove my wife nuts. I would think (daydream/strategize) about my current game while at work. Since we started caching, I haven't played one game. I think about it at times, but I'm afraid to start for fear that it may take over again. I'd rather be out caching with friends and family anyways. I've wondered about your name, but now it makes sense.
  21. My suggestion would be to do several in your area to get an idea of what others have done. That may spark your creativity!
  22. Great story! Thanks for sharing it.
  23. It's supposed to move and it doesn't matter who moves him. Some folks have a TB or coin that never leaves their possession but gets logged into and out of each cache that they visit in order to leave a trail.
