  1. Wow! The post listed below at 6:10 P.M on Nov 19 2003 sounds way too commercial to us. However, way too commercial, may be taken less seriously by some than others. 2. If you trade up on a Geocaching hide you cannot go wrong. There is nothing wrong with upgrading a Geocache. Trading down, forget it. NCFLYERS - The Double J's of Fortuna, CA
  3. A Geocaching logbook is a requirement for each and every Geocache. Most Geocachers do not purchase the "Rite in the Rain" All-Weather Writing Paper Official Logbook provided on the links by Geocaching.com. However, a logbook is required in each Geocache. Depending upon size of the Geocache container, you as a Geocache hider, are responsible for placing an appropriate logbook in the container you hide. All Traditional Geocaches must have a logbook of some sorts. So, now you have to decide, what is appropriate for the Geocache container you are hiding. Happy Geocaching! 4. If you place a Geocache into a quote "Nature Reserve," it really won't be a nature reserve anymore, will it?
  5. Watchers on New Cache From personal experience, I can say, some approvers like to watch interesting Geocaches for a while. I personally like to watch Puzzle Caches to see how quickly people figure them out and find them. ~ncflyers~(ADMIN) "Edison Medicine": Anything that brightens your day is a good thing!
  6. Not sure if that word is even in my Funk and Wagnall's (which my be dating some of us). It's just a clever name for the hiding spot that was used once by a cacher in our area. "Edison Medicine": Anything that brightens your day is a good thing!
  7. Looks like Big J picked up last night at work. "Edison Medicine": Anything that brightens your day is a good thing!
  8. It's a date! Weekends off start again in May, so I'm sure John, myself and our 2000 Taurus 4x4 will be headed up that way every chance we get. As for approving OR caches, our designated approval area CA, NV, and AZ, usually keeps us pretty busy. We are finally getting some new cachers down this way. They all want to know where I learned how to write such cleverly sneaky webpages. Thanks Guys!! Come down and see some of our fun new caches, that still aren't anywhere near I-5! 9. A point of interest when it comes to baching your nearest approver.....Some of us are sitting literally thousands of miles from caches hidden in our designated approver area (due to the lack of volunteers to help). We may or may not know the area first hand, and we may or may not know exactly what your plan is. Therefore we may end up asking what you think are superfulous questions. Our only interest is in maintaining a safe family oriented sport that does not infringe on any organization's rules or wishes. Speaking of rules, geocaching is still a very young sport. As new cachers come on scene we constantly see newer and more "creative" interpretations of the rules. Some hidey-hole ideas are concepts we had never thought of before. At times like these the approvers chat amongst themselves and try to make a decision that will be consistant for all players. Of course a new decision means a new rule and often leaves caches out there that are being "grandfathered" along until they meet their natural demise. Unfortunately due to a shortage of robots, Jeremy has graciously accepted the free help from some of us who really care about maintaining quality and public acceptance of the sport. However since we are only human we might possibly make a mistake here and there. If you will just e-mail us (in a nice tone of voice) with questions and concerns we will gladly answer. None of us are out to pick on anyone of US! We are ALL Geocachers, so how about if we try to play the game that way? If at anytime you want to help the situation please feel free to become a volunteer in your neck of the woods! ~ncflyers~(Admin "Edison Medicine": Anything that brightens your day is a good thing!
  10. It could very well be. Since approvers volunteer their services in their off-time often at the expense of their own cache outings, many have gotten totally discouraged about all of the recent approver-baching. They have decided to just say phooey with it, and go back to enjoying the game. Another point of interest when it comes to baching your nearest approver.....Some of us are sitting literally thousands of miles from caches hidden in our designated approver area (also due to the lack of volunteers to help). 11. Ammo boxes are good. Geocaching stickers were manufactured to fit on most ammo cans. After wars take place there are many ammo cans up for grabs. One can purchase them at Army Navy Stores, Cheaperthandirt.com, friends, garage sales, etcetera. Since Geocaching stickers fit on them quite well and they are sealed with rubber seals, they usually fair well within our environment, whether there be high humidity or low humidity. What is all this bashing all about? It is nothing more than an olive-drab colored metal box with a rubber seal that hides Geocaching prizes quite well. You can also use them to store valuables. Why do people go sideways anyway?????????? "Edison Medicine": Anything that brightens your day is a good thing!
  12. For all of you out there that have nothing to offer than a negative attitude towards approvers, why don't you get off of your negative rearends and send an e-mail to Geocaching.com and offer your sincere services as being an approver? You will gain a wealth of knowledge about people in general. It will be a true learning experience for you. You will have a set of rules and guidelines to follow, and you will be part of the solution, not part of the problem. Come on! I dare you!
  13. What are the rules in Geocaching? Geocaching is a relatively new phenomenon. Therefore, the rules are very simple: 1. Take something from the cache 2. Leave something in the cache 3. Write about it in the logbook. Where you place a cache is up to you. These are things you may find at the below listed link: http://www.geocaching.com/faq.asp Cache Listing Requirements (Which can be construed as Rules)/Guidelines located at: http://www.geocaching.com/articles/requirements.asp Off-limit (Physical) Caches We're assuming that you asked permission to post your cache. However, if we see any listing description mentioning ignoring "No Trespassing" signs (or any other obvious issues), your listing will be automatically archived. Caches will be quickly archived if we see the following (which is not inclusive): · Caches on National Park Service maintained lands · Caches that are buried - If a shovel/trowel/pointy object is used to dig - in order to hide or find a cache - it's not appropriate. · Caches hidden by active railroad tracks (within 150 feet of active railroad tracks) · Caches near or in military installations · Caches under public structures deemed targets for terrorist attacks These "rules" are not inclusive, just a short listing of some of them. Please feel free to peruse the links at Geocaching.com. Thanks. "Edison Medicine": Anything that brightens your day is a good thing!
  14. Glad to see this topic died. We are going Geocaching! "Edison Medicine": Anything that brightens your day is a good thing!
  15. Why yes, that works very well also. See, there is always one more way to accomplish a task. User may choose the way. I do find the ALT key and 0176 on the number pad is easier. Thanks for the info. "Edison Medicine": Anything that brightens your day is a good thing!
  16. When you post your Web page and you have a wonderful multi-cache or you want to post good parking coordinates, you can make a nice looking set of coordinates along with the degree symbol if you remember: Ampersand d e g Of course, all of this must be run together with no spaces. The ampersand is located above the number 7 at the top of your keyboard above the letters. You should not be able to find it on the numeric keyboard on your right. Instead of putting in N37 24.123, you should type N37 & d e g 24.123 (just remember the ampersand and deg need to be all run together and directly next to the 7) and you will receive the desired effect of: N37° 24.123 Just spreading a little more information for all users. ~ncflyers~ "Edison Medicine": Anything that brightens your day is a good thing! 17. Well, let's see, we have met Bufford, KF Quad Explorers, bvgps, sprintgirl, Seesthewind & Redwoodmama, ouzels-r-we, skibowler & dogmom, Uncle Alaska, Elifish, Sar22, Rahndo & buggs, Team Sagefox, The Gollywogs, Geo John, OtherScott, Double Trouble & The Wildman of Humboldt, CA, and Redwoodred and Steak-N-Eggs. However, someday, we would like to travel to the Emerald City and meet Iryshe (a.k.a. Jeremy), and at sometime also meet Ron Streeter, a Web page designer extraordinaire! 18. We all have to put our pants on one leg at a time no matter what type you wear. Personally, I like camouflage pants with large cargo pockets for all of the stuff that won't fit in my pack. Little J prefers good old-fashioned blue-jeans, but she prefers to carry a backpack. In regards to all the back and forth going on in regards to skateboarding; lighten up you guys! This is a family oriented sport and we don't need to see the demonstrative anger on the threads. "Edison Medicine": Anything that brightens your day is a good thing! 19. You can just look at our avatar and see that we like to Geocache together. Need we say more? "Edison Medicine": Anything that brightens your day is a good thing! NCFLYERS - The Double J's of Fortuna, CA
  20. Both Little J and I agree that bugs are alive and well. We see many out there on the Geocaching trail and we move em when we can. Sometimes, cachers hold them for a month or so before they can place them in a destined Geocache that they have chosen. Some of them die, that is a given; we live and then we die. Oh well! Little J thinks travel bugs will go on forever, after all, she thought up the whole idea of Travel Bugs when we developed our first Geocache, Rolling Rock Cache, in California. People were logging the travels of Little J's travelling rocks or "kids" as she refers to them right on the Rolling Rock Cache Web page. Shortly after that, another Geocacher that had adopted one of Little J's pet rocks asked ADMIN how these rocks could be tracked effectively, and shortly thereafter, we began to see Travel Bug I.D. tags for sale. Needless to say, Little J did not get any of the proceeds. Next time, we shall visit the U.S. Patent Office. Oh well! Anyway, Travel Bugs are alive and well and moving around the world as we speak! 21. We are amazed. We spent about one minute on this. Isn't anyone out there Geocaching? "Edison Medicine": Anything that brightens your day is a good thing! NCFLYERS - The Double J's of Fortuna, CA
  22. You cannot possibly forget to purchase an EPIRB Satellite 406 Category II (manually deployable) 406 MHz EPIRB. Just in case you fall hundreds of feet down a cliff or steep hill, you will need this device to alert Rescue Personnel if you still happen to be conscious. It also transmits on the emergency frequency of 121.5 MHz. What more could a high-tech Geocacher want? It also has a built in strobe light and it only costs in the vicinity of $750.00. I think the wife and I will go out and purchase one right now! "Edison Medicine": Anything that brightens your day is a good thing! NCFLYERS - The Double J's of Fortuna, CA
  23. It does not matter which is selected when adding an avatar picture. NCFLYERS - The Double J's of Fortuna, CA
  24. After you go to update your profile there are two different choices for photo. One is for your profile page, the other one is for the avatar. Make sure you upload to the avatar photo as well as your profile photo. Does it work now?
  25. Keep the list growing. Anything that brightens one's day, is a good thing. I guess you could call that "Edison Medicine." Have a great Geocaching Day! NCFLYERS - The Double J's of Fortuna, CA
