  1. I figured I'm not the first to raise the question. Of course, I just assumed the units would work, and the first handful did the other day. Now... I got nuttin and class starts in two hours. I will find a grant and hope to track down some funds so I can do this in the future. Do you have a good app for entering waypoints? Geocaching app doesn't allow for this. Thanks!
  2. I am teaching a geocaching class at my elementary school and I'm using a batch of Geomate Jrs purchased by a teacher long before I arrived at the school. From what I can tell, these devices stopped being supported by their company 5 years ago. I have been using Geomate Loader to put caches on the devices, but I'm more transfer failures than successes. GSAK doesn't support Geomate Jr. Does anyone know of any other loading programs that will workwith Geomate Jr? Thanks for your help!
  3. I recently stumbled upon What3Words (www.what3words.com) and my mind started to race thinking of the great puzzle caches I could create using it. Of course, I need a way to turn the 3 words into GPS coords. Any idea how to do that? Thanks!
  4. My wife and I are planning on a trip to Seoul, South Korea this winter for an international adoption. We'll be there a week, so naturally I want to do some caching while I'm there. Of course, I also want to be able to navigate my way around town as everything will be foreign to me. I have a Garmin CSX 60. Does anyone know if Garmin makes mapping software for South Korea? Also, if you've been there and have any travel suggestions, I'd love to hear from you. Thanks!
  5. I have attempted to lay out some of the jargon here under "Terms". Dude! You seem to know your stuff! I looked at your web page, and you've got it all laid out real nice. I'm impressed! So, I have some questions for you... You listed the 60cx and 60csx in two different categories. Why? When I looked at their specs online, it seemed that there was very little difference in them. Why wasn't the 60cx in the same category as the 60csx? For that matter, why wasn't it listed among those for dual use? What do you use most? What would you recommend? Do you have any experience with the Crossover? Thanks!
  6. If you've been on the forums much this weekend, you've probably already read some of my posts. I'm looking to buy a high-end GPS with mapping and turn-by-turn directions. The works, if possible... if I can afford it. I don't know much about the technical jargon, so I feel lost reading the online descriptions. From what I can tell, base maps are pretty much useless, so you need to buy and load mapping software. What kind? That's my question. Topo maps seem nice, but a luxury. What I really want is to be able to see detailed roads so that driving to the cache isn't a headache. I guess I'm getting tired of following an arrow. So, let's say that I'm buying a 60 cx or csx. What mapping software do I want to buy? What if I'm buying a new Triton. What mapping software do I want? I'm also thinking of the Crossover. Do I need to buy mapping software for that? Thanks for your help!
  7. So, what you're saying is that if I want to be a high-end GPS, I'll have to fork out a few hundred for the unit and another hundred or two for the map software. Bummer! I live in Northern Kentucky, near Cincinnati, OH, and Indiana. From the looks of things, just to cache in my area, I'd need 3 different National Graphic maps. That totals up to over $200 worth of mapping software. Maybe I will go with a Garmin.
  8. Nope. They've been off the grid for a couple months. One of the two cachers in question even let their one and only cache become archived, so I'm guessing that they are out of the game altogether.
  9. I'm new at the high end GPS game and I confess that I get lost in the technical terms. Through reading posts and reviews, I've come to realize that the big name GPS's (like the Garmin 60 CSX) come with horrible base maps and it costs about $100 to upgrade your maps to something that's usable. Does anyone know if the Triton Series will be similar? Will I also have to shell out another $100 for a reasonable driving map?
  10. That pesky dog! I knew there was a problem somewhere. The coin was a prize for finding a particularly hard cache (final in a series) so I really want to keep it moving. The TB is the only one that is my wife's. That was the one she was watching closely. The annoying thing is that both cachers are relatively local. I could drive to their houses and pick them up if I had to. No response means no movement. Bummer! The good news is that our other 4 trackables are moving and one just reached its destination.
  11. Yeah, I was afraid that might be the case. I was hoping someone had a great trick to get the buggers moving again. Thanks!
  12. One of my caching friends has a 60csx. There have been a couple of times when his GPS says that we're right on top of the cache (and we are) and mine says that we're 50-100 feet off. I didn't have that problem last year. In fact, I was the one with the accurate GPS before he upgraded to the csx. Maybe the accuracy isn't dying, but I don't know what else to call it. Thanks for the input on your Vista. I'll have to look at it. Since I have zero accessories, switching brands isn't an issue. I like the Triton Series and the Crossover looks good too. But reading what people have said about Magellan's customer service, I'm thinking that switching to Garmin may not be a bad idea. Does anyone use the Crossover? What do you think? How does it compare to the 60CSX?
  13. I haven't heard of the Vista. Tell me about it. Does it have good mapping features? Does it have the arrow issues that the 60 CX seems to have? Thanks!
  14. I have a bug and a coin that have been in the hands of different cachers for months. I've emailed countless times and have gotten no response and no movement of the trackables. What do I do? Have you had this problem before?
  15. I have been caching for about a year and a half on my eXplorist 210, and have been very happy with it. However, lately the accuracy is dying slowly AND I'd like to upgrade to something with more bells and whistles. After doing some preliminary research, here are the options. *eXplorist 500... a definite step up from the 210 and in my price range. *Magellan Triton 400... in my price range and looks to be comparable to the 500, but it's not on the market yet, so it's an unkown. *Magellan Crossover... out of my price range, but I can save up. I like the dual road map and hiking features. *Garmin 60 CX or CSX... I have friends who have the CSX and complain about the arrow being inaccurate, plus it's kinda pricey. What do you think? Do you own one of these? What's your opinion? Thanks!
