  1. No. The preprogrammed micro SD card was purchased from a store (actual store, not online) one year ago. I have the package with the Garmin part number (don't have it handy as I write this email).

I would call Garmin's tech support. Ask to speak to a senior advisor as the entry techs don't have any idea what they are doing. There should not be a problem with the size. I have a 16gig card in mine and it works.

  2. I just purchased a Monterra. I spent a better part of a day trying to transfer gpx files via USB. Then finally about the 6th tech at Garmin told me that the Monterra will not communicate with a Mac without another program. The program that needs to be downloaded and installed is the "Android file transfer". After installation of this program I can transfer gpx files...

You would think Garmin might mention this somewhere... Maybe I missed it. I just wanted to post in case someone else has a Mac.

  3. It may have been in the manual, but as noted, it is pretty lame. I use my Montana mostly for geocaching, but some hiking as well. I used to have to go through many steps in order to get the routing to a cache (automobile, pedetrian, direct, etc...). Once I hit go on the cache it automatically prompts now. To do so, go to setup > routing > activity AND Calculation Method. Choose prompted for both and you'll be given the option to determine how you want to go to the cache as well as whether you want to minimize time or distance.

Anyone have any idea of how to have the Montana switch Activity as you near your destination, i.e. automobile driving to direct routing?

After you have selected to route to cache, go to "Where To" and select change route activity.

  4.

I just finished doing this when I went from my Oregon 300 to Oregon 450. You can also do it with Basecamp. Transfer all of the waypoints to the Library from the old unit. Then, transfer them to the unit which you want to send them to. It only takes seconds.

The Oregon 200, 300, & 400's handle waypoints differently than the Oregon 450's and 550's. On the 450's and 550's, there is a gpx file by date that holds all of your waypoints.

Great.... that worked. Thanks for your response and help.

  5. actually the "current.gpx" doesn't contain waypoints, it contains the tracklog (i think). waypoints are in other GPX files, all in the \garmin\gpx directory (not in subdirectories), so you need to copy those.

I opened the "Current" file in GSAK and it contained all of the waypoints I was looking for????

I will try the other files in the GPX directory.

  6. I just bought a new Oregon 550. I had an Oregon 400 previously... I need to transfer all of the waypoints I had entered on the 400 to the 550. I found out on the 400 that the "Current.gpx" file holds the waypoint info. I copied that file to the 550 and they don't show up. Any help????

  7. I'm running 3.60 software on my oregon 300 and when I am going to a cache in the "follow road" mode the unit stops navigating if I pass the closest road point to the cache--It just acts as if I canceled the destination and then operates normally in the map mode---Is this a quirk in the beta software I am using? thanks (TY)

I find mine doing that also... it has been since I received it. I also have a problem with mine not switching to "Off Road" sometimes when I am traveling to a cache in the "On Road" mode.

  8. You will see all of the near caches on the screen. The zoom level will dictate how many you can see. I think if you zoom out past 5 miles the geocaches won't be displayed any further.

You will be able to see all the near caches to you and then select each of them with your finger. Once selected you can choose to navigate to that cache.

  9. I own an Oregon 400T and an IPhone. I have had zero trouble with the Oregon in the sunlight. I think you have to cell subscription because it uses the data to place you on the map and to find the geocaches.

I love my Oregon... it has changed the way I cache for the better. I am thinking about upgrading to the 550 because it can take pictures and hold 5000 caches.

  10. I have a Garmin 400t and a beautiful Mac Pro running Snow Leopard. I am trying to delete about 500 old Geocaches from the GPS unit.

I have spent several hours on the Groundspeak forums, the Garmen manual and the Garmen Oregon Wiki, but have not been successful in deleting the hundreds of geocaches on my Oregon, which are leftovers from the previous owner.

I have gotten as far as successfully downloading Garmen Communicator Plugin and accessing the gps unit's files, but that is where the problems arise.

When I connect with a USB cable the following appears: "Mac OS X can't repair the disk "GARMIN". You can still open or copy files on the disk, but you can't save changes to the files on the disk. Back up the disk and reformat it as soon as you can". I then click OK and move on. Perhaps that is the problem, but I am able to access the files and folders under "GARMIN". They are 3498139-wpts.gpx, 3498139.gpx, 3498139.zip 3584017-wpts.gpx, 3584017.gpx, autorun.inf, and two folders- Garmin and Wherigo. In the Garmin folder there is a folder called GPX which has the files 3584017-wpts.gpx and 3584017.gpx and a folder Current. Current has the same two files as under GPX and another one, Current.gpx.

I am not allowed to click and drag any of these to the trash bin. When I try, Finder says the file cannot be deleted.

Even if it could be deleted, how would I know it is the correct file to delete? None of the Geocache names on the GPS appear on the computer. For ex. there is a Geocache called GCYT3W in the Oregon, but i cannot see that anywhere in the GARMEN file on the computer.

Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance.

The Geocaches are in the GPX files that are in the GPX Folder. Those are the ones you should delete.

  11. Garmin has a selection of Mac software. I use RoadTrip to manage non-geocache waypoints on my Colorado 400T. You can load pocket query GPX files straight into the GPS without using GSAK.

I do run GSAK through Parallels on my Mac, but that's an expensive option.

I have purchased Parallel Desktop but have not installed it yet. How does it work and would you recommend it?
