  1. Egads! It put me in the river! Methinks the coder forgot to carry the decimal.
  2. My old GPS III+ rarely has trouble aquiring a lock while moving, even on an airplane. The times that I do have trouble is when I turn on the unit after having traveled a considerable distance from where it was last powered up, then it might get lost. In that situation, it takes longer for it to sort through the almanac, figure out where the satellites are suppossed to be, and then figure out where it is. Lost signals from tunnels and such aren't a problem for it, the thing resumes very quickly.
  3. Now that you mention it, I forgot that it had ever existed.
  4. Decide on what your needs are and then buy accordingly. Nothing wrong going with a use unit, they'll probably last you as long as a new one might. Upgrade in the future when something comes out that you just can't be without.
  5. The numbers are only for yourself, so if you want to try to fool yourself, then knock yourself out. The whole point of the logs is to record activities related to the cache, even if you don't find it. Posting multiple DNFs on a cache is not a bad thing at all.
  6. A spider can build a web overnight. They get hungry and want to eat NOW!
  7. Public parks and rest areas work for those seeking that kind of activity because loitering in those places doesn't draw attention. It's a problem in many countries.
  8. Why do people always seem to want to involve innocent trees when seeking relief?
  9. If Ohio ever does put in place a user fee or an entrance fee like they tried to do recently, then that might change. After all, the more traffic, the better! As it is right now, the wildlife areas are used by a huge number of people who don't hunt or fish, they are out there for the views or bird watching.
  10. Smack dab in the middle, not far from the OSU airfield.
  11. Not a web site, it's a similar program with multiple types of data sets, all cachable so that you can use it off line. There are also downloable data sets for offline use. It was recently upgraded to include imagry of the moon as well. http://worldwind.arc.nasa.gov
  12. Aw geez, do you expect everybody here to be about as emotional as Spock?
  13. That log was out of line with the whole purpose of tracking TBs, plain and simple. What the person who picked up the TB logged, could have been emailed to the TB owner instead.
  14. I cannot currently log onto geocaching.com and navigate to this forum. I had to log out, navigate to the main forum page, log in, and I'm obviously here now. Below is the complete error message that I recieved in any web browser that I tried to use. --------- Server Error in '/' Application. Object reference not set to an instance of an object. 15. I have the first model of that same Energizer charger, works just fine on 12 volts. About the 1.2 volts per NiMH AA that the origional poster asked about - that's perfectly normal with NiMH batteries. You won't have problems with devices that use them.
  16. No, don't use one for caching. I don't need to carry that much, and I don't like how my back gets all sweaty from the smaller day packs. I do have a full sized backpack for overnight trips.
  17. I hope not, I have been the victum of such actions. I was one the first few dozen on this web site when it started up from discussions on Usenet. I didn't come back for a long while and my info was gone, so I had to recreate my account. (Most likely due to reconstruction of the site at the time) I have been back only recently, after about a one and a half years abscence due to lack of interest. I would have been very upset if I had to recreate my account and choose a new nic.
  18. Yep, found one once and logged it. Then I went back and found the real cache when I read the other logs concerning the letterbox being nearby.
  19. I recall reading somewhere (here or Usenet, I can't remember) about GPS use at Disney World. It seems the poster was hassled by Disney security for using a GPS, not for caching but simply tracking their route while around the place. I did have my GPS with me last Spring when I was there, the people checking baggage had no problem with it.
  20. Rechargables for things that you use often. Alkalines for long term storage, or if you like to spend time in lin buying batteries.
  21. I have seen some stuff in caches that was obvious junk, and removed it. If I have any doubt about an item being junk, then I leave it. For example, out of date coupons are obviously useless to anyone.
