Since all of the caches that are out at CBEC arent mine I dont have any control how others list them. I agree with you that when there is a fee it should be mentioned or put in the attributes. I went to one of our state parks, for a caching event actually, & wasnt aware that there was an entry fee until I got to the gate which at this particular park there was a park guard shack. Generously a friend of mine who was in the vehicle ahead of me treated, but I remember being a bit upset this wasnt at least mentioned on the cache page. So rest easy. There will not be any fees for coming out to help & it will also be noted on the event page when I do it up to submit. So everyone can come out & know that for their helpful contribution the day will not only be free but they will feed too : ) I hope it does go well & a lot of folks come out. Even though it will entale work it will be fun.

No there is no charge for coming out to help clean up & make a new trail. As for paying to cache on the grounds it is no different than state parks as well as some other parks as well. MW

It seems a little strange to be working on an event for spring the first week of Dec but I guess some things cant be put off til the week before. Last Feb MAGC made friends with the folks from out at the Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center on the Eastern Shore. They welcomed us with open arms & loved the idea of caching. They then sat with us & worked out some details so we could put out some caches at the center. It has been a good friendship & now it is time for us to give back to the community so I am putting together a CITO event out there. I got confirmation on the date today. It will be April 18th to mesh with Earth Day (week) with a rain date of April 25th. I will be posting the event page in the very near future. I hope everyone will mark their calendars for that date & come out to show our appreciation. A lot of folks have discovered CBEC because of our caches out there & have had some fun times while out there. We can continue to enjoy that great area & be a part of making it great for others so come on out. We will help clean up some areas, blaze trails through others & enjoy some good eats, which our cachers always seem to bring. This is my 1st attempt at doing an event so if anyone has any tips, ideas, offers PLEASE don't be shy I'm open to all input. Thanks Dalene (Mother Wolf)

Im planning a CITO event for April in our area (Annapolis, Md.) & I came across this handbook put out by FGA. It is great in helping me set this up. Thakns for sharing & we will use it as a guide for our event. Thanks so much. Mother Wolf

MAGC (Military Association of GeoCachers) here in Md have partnered up with the Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center on the Chesapeake Bay to bring caching to their area. In return for them allowing, & encouraging, us to place some caches around their area we are doing a CITO out there which will include some trail maintenance. We did a very small event last fall but are now planning another for in the spring. We are hoping to have a BIG turnout. The date will be locked in sometime in the next 2 wks. Then the event page will be up & running. Should be a fun event. MW

Well that is very cool. Thanks MW

Well I learned something new. What, however, is this numbers purpose?
-
What exactly would the purpose of this be? Likes & dislikes vary to much to make this of any use IMHO. Ive done caches I thought were great while others have said it was just ok. Ive done caches that I hated that others loved. I read the logs. That usually tells me all I need to know. Sorry Im a NO for the rating idea.
-
OMG that is disgusting. I did however just have an epiphany when I saw 'Luckless's' avatar. I saw at the dollar store ton of these different size bugs. I'm thinking they would be great for decoy cache holders. It would have to be a nano or a mini bison but I will be stopping by there today now to try this idea out. I dont know if it helped you but Im excited to tr it for myself. Thanks

There are caches I wont hunt because, after having tried, they make me nuts so now I read the sheets, shake my head & pass with all due respect. There are caches I wont hunt because the sheets were great but the caches sucked & were a waste. So now I pass on them. Cache finds does not a good CO, hider make. Ive hunted caches of owners with 100's & 100's of finds & they stink. Ive also hunted caches by rookies that rocked. I make & place caches I would like to find. I try to balance my caches. They all have great views (the smaller the cache the better the view) they are all kid friendly, they have additional attributes such as history/education/nature. Almost all are wheel chair accessible, are free, range 1.5-3 difficulty because the site is what I want people to see, & the cache is just a bonus. To date Ive always gotten good feedback. I listen to cachers ideas & consider what they suggest. I respond to each person to thank them for their input. I welcome feedback. I depend on it to maintain good caches, to meet what people would like to see & to constantly improve the quality of future caches. there will always be a variety of cachers & caches & the best a person can do is hunt until they find what they like : ) If you cant find it then create it.

Of course in most cases I use my GPS to get in the area. I check it for a few mins to see that Im going in the right direction & when I think Im close I stop & spen a few mins scanning the area. It then becomes a head game. 'Where would I hide a cache?' Ive done pretty good doing it this way. I dont want to get tunnel vision by looking at my GPS more than the area. It works for me. I have been almost always been victorious. : )

I log my DNF's & I am proud of them The only shame in a DNF is the shame on me for having what my friend calls as an 'OLD MOMENT'. There has been a DNF that when I did find it I didnt feel dumb that I didnt find it the 1st or 2nd time I looked. But if I cant laugh at my self how can I justify laughing at someone else?

Alot of truth here. However if you arent in it for the numbers wm is good. Trust me when I say there are ALOT of lame wm's as well. I mean how many McDonalds do you really want to see or like benchmarking, how many things in the concrete are really going to be exciting. I started caching late & virtuals werent excepted anymore. I got into wm about 6 mos ago. I really enjoy it. I can stop almost anywhere at any time & take a picture. Most wm, not all, but most only require a pic & a tale of your visit. I have also added 30+ wm's. Only a couple have been repeats added in more than 1 cat. I have been to all of the wm's I have listed & I have only added the ones that have a history to them. Yes I have a couple nautical flag poles but they are at war memorials with additional historical sig. I put as much time into my wm's as I do my cache pages & I have learned al= lot about parts of history I didnt know before. So for me, I do the virtuals on gc.com as wll as wm's. It just rounds out that which I find interesting.

How many people don't read the descriptions ?
Mother Wolf replied to Nick_Scots's topic in General geocaching topics
I am a reader. The 1st thing to draw me to the cache is the title. Then the CO. I read every cache page for the caches Im going to look for. Thats 1/2 the fun. I also read many if not most of the logs. I have gotten vital info from them alone. From there it just gets more insane. I dont download anything. after I choose the caches that I want I write it in my little log bk. w/ coords, type & rating. I also add any special notes I have. I have a hand drawn map (actually several) of different sections of the countries. I divided up the map based on N-695, S-50, E-Rt2 to the bay, W-Rt2 to 95. Then there is west of 95 & south of 50 & lastly Eastern Shore. It obviously takes more time than just DL coords but its part of my enjoyment along with the reading the cache page. I, too, have gotten emails from cachers because they couldnt find the cache because of this or that when on the cache page almost the 1st sentence is 'YOU MUST READ THE ENTIRE PAGE' plus other references through the page to be sure to read all of this. If you are going to hunt someones cache why not read what they have written. It seems like the nice thing to do if they have taken the time to write something. Just MHO. -
Not original but dry log patches (military are my favorite) tags TB's are always great just as an extra note (Id like people to at least close the baggie tight that some logs are in & also close the cache tightly, it would sure help.

Caching along routes, rest areas only

Does anyone have an extra map for LDove? -
Sweetlife - welcome to geocaching. I truly feel your pain but dont waste your time. BTDT I went the rounds a yr ago with a support our troops logo & lost. It was the logo from MAGC (Military Association of GeoCachers) which has contributed alot to the sport as well as brought alot of people, mostly military, into the full circle of geocaching but that made no difference. It was determined that it was an agenda too & so got the boot. We here at MAGC finally let it go..............but still no logo. Guess they couldnt figure how to profit from it. SAD!

This is just too funny. While I was in San Diego in Aug I had a similar situation. Hubby was along, which is always a treat, but when we got to GZ all that was there was a city construction horse. There had been a tree there but all that was left was the ground level cut stump. Hubby commented what an intelligant game you play here. (He obviously isnt a cacher) but he is a good sport in small burst. Well when we got back to our bungalo I wanted to log the disaster, as it looked to be very recently done as there were still chips on the ground. What I found was that the tree had been cut within the wk & since I had DL the info. OK got new coords, stopped back at this marina got to GZ to find this tree too had been cut down. WT*! I sent an email to CO who responded the cache has again been moved but is no longer IN a tree. I decided to pass on a 3rd try. Maybe 'HE' is a tree hugger, but it sure made for funny campfire chat. -
I havent seen anything about the JEEP rally yet. I know Moab is having their kick off events this wk. Any news on the overall event for this yr?

Barcodes on Geocache instructions

Although this sounds interesting & a little high tech not everyone has a cell with pic capability. Hard to believe I know but personally my phone is still the 1st phone I got. It has no camera. It is just a phone. Where does that leave me? : ( besides out of the picture. LOL -
Loggin your own caches as "Found" in your stats?
Mother Wolf replied to SARAH !'s topic in General geocaching topics
I have never claimed a find for caches I own but let me put a thought out there. I own some caches that are at memorials. I visit these memorials on a regualar basis. My military memorials on Memorial Day & Labor Day. My Police/Firefighter/EMS memorials when we loose a brother or a sister. Etc. Would logging my visit be ok or not? Can I log it each time I go? This would also apply to virtuals: owned or not. If you go there more than once can you log it each time you go? Just a few thoughts. Often wondered what others do. MW -
What Kind Of Vehicle Do You Drive While Geocaching

It is sometimes frustrating & a little time consuming if you dont know a zip etc. Pick the area you want to check & zoom into that area or check by state to see if there is a large city nearby to use as a starting point. You can then pick the city just click on any cache & start the map process over again to see caches. Know that if you are panning onthe map using the NSEW arrow you dont always get the caches to show up. If that happens just use the cursor to move the map page just a hair then it will load the caches. Good luck

I have found the best solution is to give the reviewer as much info as you can. I had a cche that took about a dozen emails because as the crow flies it was a bit close to another cache. I detailed the land layout making the point that there were not just woods but fences that were between the caches direct route. That there was only 1 way in/out of the area & that was well away from the other cache. It took a bit but in the end it was ok'd. When in doubt ask the reviewer. There is also the problem that even if you do the research before by checking area for caches if you arent a premium member you wont see if there is a cache in the area because you cant access the page info for the coords so AGAIN when in doubt ask the reviewer. If you work with them most of them will bend some on the 'INTERPRETATION' of the guidelines. Good luck
