  1. Look out, bear! Are you lookin' at us?? 'Cause if you're lookin' at us.....
  2. I actually saw the Bower Bird show on PBS or another station quite some time ago, and was fascinated by those amazing birds. They are such artists, and quite particular about their creations!
  3. Turning on JavaScript should be all you need to use the webcam page, but if you just want to peek in on the nest you can go straight to the Osprey Cam Picture - that's a simple JPEG image, no fancy-schmancy Javascript needed. Awesome, Thanks for the link! Now I can peek, too
  4. Hey, I don't disagree with you, we generally read most of the recent logs before we head out and take that info (if ANY) into consideration before we go. We don't download anything into our GPS, we still hand enter everything. But in many instances the logs really are of the non-helpful variety and don't give much info relating to the cache, aside from the fact that somebody was able to find it. Which at least tells you it should still be there..... hopefully..... (Sorry for the thread derailment)
  5. Most typically the last 7 logs will be something like "Out on a caching run in Town X today with Cachers Y & Z. SL TNLN TFTC!" so that's a big help
  6. It also shows if you are a neglectful owner, which is what I think the rub is for some people. Who is ultimately responsible for the state of the cache? The owner, of course. If one is not taking care of one's caches and somebody else brings it up in a NM log, one hardly has the right to get bent about it and take it out on the NM logger. (If I'm understanding your statement correctly)
  7. I just received a note on one of my caches yesterday by a high numbers cacher: "As part of my formal apology to fellow cachers I am going through and deleting logs. This is one of the caches that had a bogus log. This cache was not found by me nor (***cacher name deleted***). I apologize for any inconvience that this may have caused anyone." So there is a story behind that apparently, but I am not informed of the situation.... There are many ways to rack up big numbers, I guess.
  8. I was under the impression that a NM log meant that the cache needs some sort of maintenance. Is a full logbook NOT a maintenance-worthy situation (especially in micros/nanos)? I would NOT be mad if somebody hit the NM on one of my caches when the logbook was full, that would let me (and other cachers) know the status of the cache. I WOULD be upset if somebody "picked up" my logbook for me and replaced it with a new one, that is something I would not particularly appreciate. Especially with my micro logbooks, they are handcrafted to fit the container and are somewhat 'artistic', so anything else that replaced it would not 'suit' me. The gesture of log replacement in and of itself would be kind, but I'd MUCH rather just have the cacher let me know that it needs to be replaced so I can do it myself. I don't really see the reason to delete a valid NM log once the maintenance has been performed. Simply hit the Owner Maintenance log, write that you maintained the cache/replaced the log. That will show everyone what a good owner you are, you took care of the situation in a timely manner, etc. Nothing wrong with that!
  9. Cool to see the nest from the ground view, I didn't realize it was so close to 'civilization'! It would be very neat if the society could rig a sort of basket-like circle of netting around the bottom of the post to catch the bear if it falls out....... Wish I could download the stuff to view the live camera, but DH gets really peeved whenever I do that
  10. My whole point in contributing to this thread was to tell the OP that some of us out here are annoyed by the way people log things. Unfortunately I apparently didn't make sense. Obviously that didn't get across. So now I'll say Snoogans, you "win", here's you cookie for showing the world what an idiot I am Now you'll have to come back with the REAL last word eh? Just make sure when you type it out that the font size is huge and the color is red, because you've been slacking on that lately and I've been having trouble recognizing your posts without the drama queen emphasis
  11. Gee, it would REALLY take a long time for that weird blue egg to "hatch"! Perhaps they've discovered that he's good for, uh, 'wiping', if you get my drift....
  12. This seems to be one of the biggest misconceptions by LBers that I've run across. Not being familiar with the way a GPS works, many LBers do in fact assume that a GPS will lead you smack dab right up to the exact location of the geocache, when anybody who has used a GPS will know that plenty often it is SOOO not true! I've spent WAY longer looking for some very easy caches because my GPS was non-cooperative and there were no hints, than I have looking for some moderately difficult LBs with decent clues.
  13. Since you want to pick nits on the tiny amount of things I log: I did actually see the coin in my own geocache when I went on a maintenance trip, and I had no idea that it was in there since I've not been getting my gc.com emails until a week after cachers log them (due to AOL email problem). So if you want to consider it "lame" of me for logging that coin, knock yourselves out. I still drove out there and walked to a cache. The coin was in a cache. I didn't take it out of the cache because I wanted to leave it for other cachers to find. One of the reasons for the "discovered" option is to let others know that you saw the item is still in the cache, but you left it there. You're saying I shouldn't have logged it? Uh, ok. If I was trying to jack up my icon finds, I could very easily do so. That is not my goal. IMO that is far less lame than "finding" somebody's notebook full of coins at the pizza social and logging them all so you can rack up mass numbers of icons to make your trackable page look big and super awesome to all us pathetic non-loggers. Sure, you saw them, but somebody basically handed them to you on a silver platter. COOL, congratulations on the effort! I don't neeeed to feel superior to you, I just do And as a side note, I actually saw that same coin again a week later while checking one of my OTHER caches, so I guess if I was really super-lame I could have logged it again. I feel that we've hijacked this thread, which is wrong, so I'll stop contributing to that. We've pretty much voiced our opinions (mine is not "moot", by the way) and know where we stand on this issue. You can at me all you want, I'm doing it right back atcha! Don't take it so personally, we just don't all play the same.
  14. Unfortunately you'll have to get used to the fact that some people just live to rack up icons like that. They carry around big folders full of coins and everyone they meet can "look" at them and write down the number and then add all those coins to their own profile. Whoopee doo, what an adventure! Some cachers' "trackables" section of their profile just goes on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on. They think that is the coolest thing ever. Doesn't impress me an iota. I'm much more impressed by people who find the things in caches. The one and only event I went to had a table full of travel bugs, and a couple cachers there just stood over the table and wrote down the number of every single bug. They hardly even looked at them, they just harvested the numbers and went home and logged them all as 'found'. Wow, how neat Of course the icon ho brigade will say that they're playing the game how they like it and who am I to judge. But just like they are entitled to play the way they're playing, I am entitled to my opinion, and I think it is stupid, so there
  15. I'm going to have to agree with the poop theory, that does look like a matching drip on the post next to the bear..... but if it is, I'm amazed at the horizontal straightness of the bear's drip, how'd they manage that??? These birds are really gifted! Mine doesn't poop in such an artistic fashion
  16. Sounds like a fun cache, but Lep is right. It could definitely be a nightmare for you to maintain. I had a two-stage multi. The cache page coordinates brought cachers to the first stage where I'd hidden a stone with coordinates stamped on the bottom. All cachers had to do was find the stone (and I indicated in the encrypted hint where it should be found and replaced), punch those coordinates into their GPS, and then replace the stone where they found it and walk on to stage 2. Long story short, the stone went "missing" 6-7 times and I gave up on replacing it, just too much trouble. I had tried to keep it alive by placing as many as 4 stones there at the same time, all with the same coordinates, but somehow they all "disappeared." Finally I had to change the cache into a traditional one-stage. It is a shame that some people can't be more respectful and end up ruining a neat hunt for everyone else, but it does happen. You might try it out for a while and see how it goes, but be ready for a few problems to spring up. Good luck!
  17. I wouldn't call preying on the stupidity or desperation of other people "smart", but that's just me.....
  18. Ohhhhh, poor little thing, he needs a {{{hug}}}
  19. Anybody else check his feedback and see the other "items" he has sold? "HAUNTED MASTER GENIE LAMP OF ULTIMATE POWER! I won’t sell the lamp, but I will make the wish for you! What I have in my possession is so rare, so mysterious, and so powerful, I can’t possibly sell it. I can’t even imagine what would happen if this fell into the wrong hands. You make the wish and my all powerful lamp will grant that wish." etc. etc. etc. (selling avg. $20 per wish.....) "WELCOME TO MY NEWEST AUCTION! THIS IS A ONE TIME AUCTION AND ONCE THIS RING IS SOLD, YOU WILL NEVER SEE THIS AGAIN!!! THIS IS HIGHLY TREASURED COLLECTED ITEM OF COMPLETE POWER***from my private collection *** HERE IS YOUR CHANCE TO HAVE ALL THE ENDLESS POWER TO GET ALL THAT YOU WANT!! *** THIS RING CONTAINS an GENIE that is so powerful that many through out history have kill to possess it!! NO one else will possess one like it, BECAUSE THERE IS ONLY ONE!!! THIS RING HAS A GREAT POWERFUL GENIE THAT WILL GRANT YOU ALL THAT YOU WANT AND NEED." (selling avg. $800 per ring)
  20. Somebody dropped a GJTB and a WJTB in one of my caches yesterday, I may try to swing by tomorrow and take a look at them (if they haven't been grabbed already!)
  21. It is nice when cachers take the time to do some photos Our first released TB was a green helicopter, he didn't "live" long but had some nice photos taken of him.... Meeting the Colonel! Chopper Found a REALLY BIG Georgia Peach! My Black Jeep TB visiting with other Jeeps, as requested
  22. There are those caching groups that aren't "pro's" at it, I was thinking more along those lines in my post. Like family groups with several enthusiastic kids, or experienced cachers taking novice family members on a 'test drive' of the hobby, etc. I'm not dissing anybody, but there are various group situations like this where it is possible for unintentional movement of cache.
  23. But.... but..... every baby needs a teddy bear, even birdie babies! j/k - that would be neat to retrieve it and make a TB of it
