Could be used as a tour of , say, an historical district of a low-rise city or walkable resort area. No skyscraper canyons to mess with GPS, perhaps tape with next coordinates stuck to sign posts. Might be a good game on a Geogetogether, and could be left as a 'findable' cache afterwards ( or a good pub crawl ). I am thinking Charleston NC or Key Weird or similar walk friendly places. Boston or Provincetown, MA would be places near me , pretty close to the first examples I gave, now that I think about it... I was interested to see that flour in the streets shut them down years ago for an anthrax scare. Add people carrying a GPS and hiding things and we have a bonified SWAT-meet ! Thats why I suggested tape on a sign post. Crawl! Don't run !!!

Small package with Neosporin and Band-Aids. They seem to get taken pretty quickly for some reason.... I had made up a few brass tags that I engraved my name on, but I don't work there anymore.

OFF-TOPIC: 9/11 Memorial and other news
Cape Cod Cacher replied to The Artful Dodger's topic in General geocaching topics
I was doing pretty much what I'll be doing this 09/11... Watching a weather pattern that was/is near Cape Cod. One boat owner I Captain; I was sure he had friends near, if not in the place, called me, and we didn't go by Manhattan till October. Cruise was off........ My cache pal from CA had given me an LAPD "Anti Terrorist Squad" hat and a "Don't Tread on Me" flag months before. The hat is my favorite among many, and flag is self explanitory. -
I don't have a problem ach, I leave FREE coupons/gift certificates to places near my caches on Cape. I pay for most of them, but when business owners see that it brings in biz, they have been giving me stuff to hide. Leaving bait in a cache with fishing tackle was out, so I leave a few bluefish and flounder jigs in a cache and gifties for the nearest 2 bait shops. I also have "aquired" stuff with company logos like keychains (floating kind) and usefull things from businesses that I have worked for and leave them far away. As long as it's not an advertiZement, and NOT set out by the business it's self, I say go for it. 2 for1 coupons are out. A giftie for 2 FREE ice cream cones ( where finders might be a family of 14, or just a couple) is in.

Is the cache nearest you one you placed?
Cape Cod Cacher replied to MartyFouts's topic in General geocaching topics
Closest is .5 miles as the crow flies... Now where do I find one of these highly trained crows? About .8 taking a short-cut through the woods on a bike though. My 3 are the closest to me, all a bit off the beaten path for 'visitors' ( aka tourists). I've had some wonderfull comments from people that had visited these places for the first time after vacationing here for years. That was the reason I placed some relatively easy caches. CCC -

I go alot easier on the forum than I used to, but I still cruise through. Jeremy posted a link to this site on a different topic a couple days ago, I HIGHLY suggest everybody that has replied to this thread look in a mirror when you visit the site. http://www.winternet.com/~mikelr/flame1.html

FA, I talked to them a year ago. They had no clue what I was talking about and got no reply. The head honcho in my town ( Yarmouth, 02675) has been very receptive, as has the local Historical Society. My caches are all over a year old now, and with the exception of the recent plundering of 'The Big W', not a problem. However, I will temper this by noting that 'Big W', 'Bass Hole' and 'Crab Creek' are not on some fragile land. BH is in an abandoned apple orchard, and was mowed to a field as recently as15 years ago. The trails used to be known by locals only, and a stone wall was altered to make it more accessable. CC is in a long gone cranberry bog, and the deer still run within 6 feet of the cache. I had thought of some pruning along the trail, but the town beat me to it by widening it to 4' wide. The Big W is pretty much man-made...OK, actually TOTALY man-made. Good luck with Waaaa, Wa-Ah-Wachusett. I don't leave the Cape much in summer, but get that way for business fall-spring. A skiable update might be a cool idea. Cache on, CCC

I read the post, and it was either a troll or an incredibly inept / fatefully clumsy / indoorsman guy. The guy who trips on carpet alot, a meteorite hits or freaks when he gets mud on his tires. If it's any of the latter, look for a slightly used, slightly scratched GPS for sale soon. If he visits the Cape, he better be careful, we have whales that are attacking beaches....

Socks and Puppets and Trolls...OH MY!
Cape Cod Cacher replied to Mopar's topic in General geocaching topics
I haven't cruised through the forums for a while because of the brain surgeons playing games in legit topics or 'same old, same old' topics. An off topic might be fun though... Hmmm... Just had a bizzarre thought, a Geocaching Tupperware party disguised as an "event" with sock puppet making as the party game. Maybe a sockpuppet that looks like a squid or eel so I can troll it for stripers. 48 hours watching 'whale-pushers', I need some sleep... -
I work for a company that sells different supplies to USPS members. Most are quite pleasant, but I have some horror stories as well. I refuse to go boating with members, and they'd probably be wary of 'Cachers. They have different gradings as part of their individual 'rank', including 3 different navigation ranks. They have 'predicted log' contests as an activity. In a relatively sheltered area (bay etc.), they follow a predetermined route using a chart, compass and tide/current info. BUT NO WATCHES, nevermind electronics. The object is to calculate their individual time around the course. I too doubt they will be climbing mountains, I shipped out a 58" belt today, and that's not the largest I've heard of !!! I have found a mark they reported as missing, it took a bit of bushwhacking and reading local history, but I found it. I've been at this since last August

Rubber Stamps / Geocache Passport
Cape Cod Cacher replied to Schmidt-Family's topic in General geocaching topics
I work for a small company that makes pre-inkers. They suck. I'd be happy to sell the dadgum machine... I had an old man as a Scout advisor that made stamps. Pretty easy for type, computers make graphics possible now. Still the ink and paper waterproof bit arises. I'll stick with engraving tags for now. Still free (for me) and waterproof. Wish you all the best though. CCC -
Geocoins from Geocaching.com
Cape Cod Cacher replied to Clan Ferguson's topic in General geocaching topics
I do some engraving at work. I have some (about) 1"x3" bits of brass laying about. Needless to say, on real slow days I've made some tags for my caches and a few to leave behind. They would be pricey as my boss charges $.20 per character. about $8 a pop... Who said part-time jobs didn't have benefits ? I look busy and get a few tags to leave behind. Been thinking of upgrading a multi cache, take a tag to find the second (muddy) site. And at an easy cache, I will leave them as 'scrap-book on Olde Cape Cod' items. Son of a Fish, I actually lucked out for once !!! Visit the Mid-Cape, tip well, and find a couple caches this summer ! CCC
