  1. Sure, the code is TB20G8P, Hedge Hopper's TOFTS Geocoin.
  2. I apologize in advance if this has been answered before, but I didn't see anything when I searched the forums. I found my first geocoin recently, went to its trackable page, and logged it. I did end up having to do a "grab", as the coin was logged as being in a different cache than the one that I found it in. I also dipped it in the cache I found it in so that the proper mileage would show. My question is- shouldn't the geocoin show up on the Trackables page of my profile? If I go to the coin's page it shows that is is in my hands, and when I go to log caches I have the option of dropping off the coin, but it's still not showing on my profile. Any advice?
  3. Right next to the Whitehouse. Well that's just plain wrong. Bat Cave is in Western NC. You just have to google it. Agreed Lots of nice caching around, too. http://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC45TT5_bat-bug-bungalow
  4. I prefer to cache alone, as well as hike/camp alone. My girlfriend comes with sometimes, but she is much less of an outdoorsy person than I am. I have gone out for days by myself. I prefer it this way; I am much more in tune with nature and myself. Plus, I like the challenge of looking without help. Yes, there are risks, but I follow the motto of being prepared and I know my limits. I am young and healthy, which helps. My "go bag" has first aid for bites, breaks, and lacerations. I always have protection. Most importantly, I have studied the terrain and risks involved and I never get cocky. Of course, I always let at least two people know exactly where I will be and when, and schedule check-ins if possible.
  5. This is a seriously awesome attitude! Can someone get this cacher a trophy for going above and beyond?
  6. I'd also like to know, what percentage of geocachers in wheelchairs have a non-wheelchair caching buddy? I'm about to place a hide that can be seen by someone in a wheelchair, but not reached from a seated position. Do I mark it as wheelchair accesible or not?
  7. When you are a terrorist, there are no innocent persons. That being said, if someone invaded 'your' country, wouldn't you try to hurt encourage them to leave in any way possible? It's a very blurry line between terrorist and freedom fighter, and we need look no further than the revolutionary war in the USA for some vivid examples. Thank you for this rational and enlightened post. +1
  8. The article is definitely misleading... it says he was looking for a geocache underwater near a pier and disappeared after yelling "I've got it."
  9. I have been considering placing a cache on some public art nearby. I think it is a great way to bring attention to the art, especially if there is history on the piece. My question is, who to ask for permission if the art is on a street corner? Sidewalks are public, so is no permission needed? Do I contact the artist?
  10. This sounds like an awesome idea, especially the camera! I wish you were in my area
  11. I went on a frustrating and unsuccessful search today and this thread was in my mind the whole time. The hint was "flower power." GZ was a bed of ivy. No flowers. Even if there were flowers at one point, they're seasonal. That's like saying, look where the most snow falls. Not to mention the owner posted a note saying the cache was "right where you think it is." Well, apparently not because I didn't find it...
  12. ^ couldn't agree more. I try to keep up higher standards in hopes that it will catch on but sometimes it's still disappointing. In which case I step back and try to focus on what I truly take from geocaching as a whole. Thanks, OP, for asking the questions I had milling about, as well.
  13. We had someone see us coming out of the woods with our kids and a shovel in hand (we had just buried a cache). The guy later asked what were we doing and we told him we had to bury a hampster. I also say I lost something and am looking for it. Not trying to pick, just asking out of curiosity, but don't the rules say a geocache can't be buried?
  14. Reading this thread just made my day Kudos to the anonymous benefactor. This kind of spirit is one of the attributes that attracted me to geocaching. It is in many ways an anonymous game, open to anyone, completely dependent on the goodwill of others to continue. The game is what you make it, PM or not.
  15. That's raises an interesting question. Do Geocachers tend to visit craft stores or head shops for small baggies? Maybe they visit the head shops *first*, *then* the craft shops. ;D
  16. Someone else has mention head shops. Piercing/tattoo parlors also have small baggies. As they order them in the thousands, I've found that they are usually more than happy to sell me a hundred or so for a few bucks.
