  1. At my buddies place so I gave him the contact info (he's done media stuff before) and just got a call back about the story. I believe he said it was the Managing Director at KOB, Johnny Chandler. Mr. Chandler did apologize about the written article and it should have been written better. There will be an update probably tomorrow (probably running a little behind with it being New Year's). The TV will stand, and they stand by it. I know Mr. Chandler and my buddy spoke a bit about how somethings in the story could have been done better. The report was done because someone from Department of Homeland security reached out to them. It is a "concern". Interestingly, they were not releasing he source. After hanging up, my friend said he forgot to ask if local law enforcement was part of it. The managing director did say that there is a huge issue of sex offenders in that region and the point was to make parents aware. From what I heard, I don't think my friend and the director agreed that is what came out of he story, more so than painting Geocaching badly. You can decide that for yourselves, the reports will always stand by their point because they are tied to it. Of course we are tied to our side too. Perhaps see what someone thinks who is not a geocacher. What is still unknown is if the reporter reached out to Groundspeak / Geocaching directly, which I know my friend was pretty big on (as well as the map bit used in he article. One thing is for sure according to him: no one from KOB was familiar with Geocaching prior to doing the article.
  2. Wouldn't it be against the rules to delete these logs. I don't see it in the guideline or rules that a visit log is prohibited.
  3. I have been using the filters/labels but it doesn't seem to want to put the emails into a different folder (at least not yet). I'll keep at it. So much clutter when searching Google. 1000 things I don't care about or doesn't answer my question.
  4. KOB Eyewitness News 4 4 Broadcast Plaza SW Albuquerque, NM 87104 (505) 243-4411 Contact info of the station to complain.
  5. I think my find to hidden ratio and the success of those hides speaks for itself. But feel free to ask any of the ones who have found mine their opinion. My opinion is self-serving.
  6. I will try this. I'm using gmail for my geocaching since I can't use my work email (only other email I have). If anyone has any tips on that, appreciate it. I know it isn't exactly geocaching, but only familiar with outlook somewhat. Thanks for the help. I suspected it might not be optional, but I usually find I'm just blind, like I am at the super market.
  7. There is a TB hotel adjacent to one of my caches, and it does OK. I don't find caches, really only like placing them (I have found more than my count suggests, just never logged them) so I don't take them. My mentor said it is bad to take and keep them. I have considered doing a TB hotel but my mentor has said it is one that should really and truly attract TBs. The one adjacent to mine is right on the interstate, so that likely adds to the ability of it being more used than others as you've described. This is just an observation, I am far from experienced enough to say it as criticism.
  8. I have looked in settings on the account, help files, and other threads on the forum. None seem to answer the basic. I love reading the logs, but I do so from the cache page. The emails are just unneeded clutter. Is this something I have to be a premium member to turn off? Where do I go to turn off emails.
  9. I prefer them. Granted I am coming from outdoor sports other than geocaching, but Garmin is superior IMO.
  10. It is bigger inside. Thank you....it was a set up post partially ;-)
  11. was referring to the front or main page of geocaching.
  12. I just looked for links to Waymarking from Geocaching.com and I don't see any on the front page. It is like they don't want you going there either. I kinda noticed that with the benchmarking link, well hidden. From what I've seen, Waymarking is just Foursquare without the cool App.
  13. This is why a Virtual would be nice. What if you came buy the building and the office was closed. I do find it funny though that the HQ cache is inside the building (from what you are saying) though the rules say there is no cache's allowed inside a business and cannot promote a business. Irony is funny sometimes.
  14. AND....they don't have to be called "Virtuals", but something like "Landmarks" or "GeoPOIs" (said jeo· poiz), etc.
  15. That is tiny looking. Did they ever make a bigger one?
  16. If they are brought back, only done so by express permission or request of Groundspeak, or a special council/group that directly reports to HQ. I could see (if not one already) a Virtual for HQ itself. Other specific Virtuals: - Olympic Games, inside the park which may not allow caches for security reasons (Thank you Atlanta) - Capital Buildings (state, US, other countries) again where security is a concern - National Parks (cause I believe the ban on traditional caches is still in place). - Milestone markers/places in geocaching history (like the spot of the first geocache, first event, last new virtual, where the APE caches were, etc.)
  17. Not interested in their products. I know many components even in American products are sourced from China, but Chinese sourced, produced and owned seem to be nothing but disaster, from the lead in children's toys to the cars that are pure death traps because they skimp on safety features. I'll try my best to support American made products and companies. Why I only buy New Balance for running shoes because they make them here in the United States (not all, but many).
  18. Yup, happened to me too. In fact I still have yet to go back and pick-up the cache I placed that I later found was near a "?" cache final location. Sucky part is, part of a series....and in the middle. I pre-create the cache page and use the aerial image to aid in the "proposed" coordinates before actually hiding the cache. The comment about going into that proposed cache page and using the "find nearby caches" is what I use as it seems the most simple.
  19. Where do the bags of hamster cedar chips come in? Hamster cedar chips account for 0% of the budget since hamsters shouldn't use cedar for bedding material. The Groundspeak Hamster team use a variety of other bedding materials based on individual hamster preference. All hamster-related expenses are included in the above 10% IT infrastructure which is subdivided as follows: 3% Hamster bedding/housing 2% Hamster food supplies 2% Hamster wheel maintenance 1% Hamster behavioral consultants 2% Actual computers/Server/infrastucture expenses Now we know where all the missing log books are going!
  20. Ya'll should strike until you get HQ moved to Florida (or southern Cali).
  21. Are you talking about the forums? The trouble seems to be happening with logging a find on the computer. Yes, sorry. I was referring to the forum only, thought it was sourced from the same place.
  22. Noob (see also urban dictionary) - A new geocacher who is often slow, unable to learn quickly (stupid) or has no interest in learning. They expect others to do the work. Originally a term used in the gaming world, not mainstream. Different from Newbie or Newb.
  23. Really? I wudda thought that would be a way to meet Facebookers, not geocachers. That's not meeting people, that is only "sharing" electrons. But then... what do I know? I'm not even active and have found lots and lots of geocaching groups, for which if you have a question, you can ask. If you want to meet a geocacher in person, it is a great source. If you are someone not familiar with this site or the game, it is a lot easier than trying to find an event, which may not even be close to you or weeks and weeks away. If you hate facebook, than just say you hate facebook. But don't discourage a new person from meeting other nice geocachers.
  24. Seems like the most logical place to put this. Just looked it up out of curiosity: http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/showfield?f=doc&state=4801:ro8jg5.2.26 Ooops...link doesn't work. Let me fix that. 25. One of the fastest ways to find fellow geocachers is through facebook. You do not have to wait for events. However, you would have to have a facebook account.
