  1. Still trying to grasp what I have just now heard. Jim has filled me in on basic facts and directed me here. The heartwrenching part is to know what his survivours must go through. I have little doubt of how greatful Tony is to see the circle of support around his family. The emptiness can not be avoided, but the edges can be smoothed. Tony - Rest easy knowing your family is being cared for and your scence of humour will no doubt be honoured. Sue, Allen & Rebecca - Sally and I will be holding you all in our thoughts and hope that your greif may be eased where ever possible. Northern Eagle Ian (and Sally) Oakville, Ontario.
  2. Are there not rules in geocaching about "Commercial Caches"? I always thought so, and would assume the same rule would apply here. I think being allowed to waymark comercial enterprises will lead to inapproriate motivations for the game. What's to prevent me from doing a waymark catagory for "Hand Made Furniture Built By Northern Eagle"? I do not feel that this should exclude things like Drive-In theatres. They are a rare thing these days. Or single screen theatres over 50 years old. There is some sence of history in these places. But Japanese restaurants? McDonalds? Northern Eagle, aka VA3IPC, aka Ian
  3. OK! Sounds like it has potential, but every link I click to try and go through the process seems to be inactive. How do I get into setting one up? Same problem seems to exist when I try and search for Waymarking activity near my home.
  4. I'll be there with my better half. She just dosn't know it yet. I'm pretty sure she'll be game for it. (Might have to start hoarding brownie points though if it's gonna be cold!)
  5. It's funny to think that some would quite cuz theres no more caches near by. I see people in my neighbourhood who can obly be described as "HIGHLY MOTIVATED" (read as "obsessed?"). I quite enjoy listening to their antics but hardly see myself running out of caches any time in the forseeable future.... My first find was June 7th 2003.
  6. In reference to the original post, don't be pist about the post since the poster sounds like me on the rebound from some obsessive compulsive tripout.
  7. Is anyone familiar with using EasyGPS software to manage their waypoint lists? Use a Magellan 315 and understand that I should be able to download waypoints from geocahing.com, add them to my existing list on my lap top, which I should then be able to upload to my GPS. Well I don't seem to be able to import .loc files from geocaching.com into and existing list on EasyGPS. It seems to want to show only one list or the other. Or is there better software I should be using?
  8. I was a boy scout for a year, then later I spent an enjoyable season as a Sea Scout in Toronto Ontario. We went winter camping once, I woke up at dawn freezing cold and incredibly miserable, my hands so cold that no matter how hard I tried, I could not get the fire started.... so... a guys gotta do what a guys gotta do.... right... I siphoned some gas from the snow mobile and had the fire roaring in a flash. Well when the leader climbed out of his tent and and said I'd just earned my fire making badge, my guilt fessed up how I really got it going. He just laughed and said I also had my badge for something else, honesty, ingenuity, or something. I don't remember. Years later I was a cub scout leader for a while.
  9. As a newbie to this sport, (1 find) These posts remind me of the inherent resposibility incurred by taking a travel bug. I have learned over the years in such situations to give the benefit of the doubt by default. Lets hope the person with the bug has not met with misfortune.
